As far as I know, employees aren't allowed to put free items through the register will-nilly, but customer service is the one who gives out free items.
The lady on the phone was "flabbergasted", "upset" with what happened. Yeah, no. Trust me, mostly it's just for show. It's a script to pacify angry customers. Glad you got your candles though.

When people in customer service jobs make mistakes the company should have a policy to make it right. Many companies do. The fact that BBW apparently doesn’t give their managers enough empowerment to give something out is all the more reason to boycott them. Terrible company.

Just for future reference, and @xneverxmorexravenx I totally agree with you here, as I work in retail as well. When ordering BBW candles you want to make sure that you order them prior to October 29th, because that's when we start to get busy in the holiday season at BBW. And it's always best to order them a head of time, because the store doesn't control what they get in shipment. The company only sends them for what the need depending on the sales.
