Somehow missed this video when you uploaded and only just caught up! Congrats on 25k Jon so well deserved, and hitting 8 years at Google - I also am hitting 8 years full time work this month 🎉 love the vlog format btw + transitions
Loved this chill vlog and congrats on 25k! 🎉3 days is def the sweet spot. The ability to get up wash up and work is SO convenient. But yea… if you HAD to go in daily… at least it’s the google ottices lol.
Commute to office is a norm and it was condition under which you been hired. 8 years ago - means before Covid. Especially taking in consideration compensation level Google paying. And it less likely someone would pay you more than Google. Congrats on 8 years!
when I studied computer science in college I had to take a lot of math classes to graduate but it really depends on what you're going to be building. for example: math plays a huge part in AI. if you want to build your own model, you'll need to know a lot of math. but if you're using an AI library then you don't need to deal with any math. hope that helps!
Hey Jon! Awesome video. Im joining the MTV office as a new grad soon and want to also live in SF. Whats the policy for an office transfer? Were you able to move cause your manager allowed it or do they have a say? Did you commute from SF to MTV for all of the 7 years you were working in MTV?
Hey! Congrats on starting soon. I'm not 100% sure what the policy is for new hires, but you should start a conversation with your recruiter/manager about it. I commuted from SF to MTV for most of the 7 years. When the pandemic hit I was only working from home. And then I transferred to the SF office when they required us to be in 3 days a week
I’m currently pursuing my bachelor degree in Information Technology. I’m also working on my Google IT Support Professional Certification. I do want to be a software developer at Google but I’m hoping to land an IT support specialist internship

Hey Jon I love your videos and you inspire and motivate me so much!
I was curious on how much math actually plays a part in being a software engineer

Sounds like you have a solid plan 👍
How many hours a day do software engineers work?
It depends but for me I work a typical 9-5 schedule
I failed my Amazon OA 😢
That’s ok! Use this as an opportunity to reflect on how you can do better for next time
