    Lyrics:
You came, you saw, you conquered me
When you did that to me
I knew somehow this had to be
The winds of march that made my heart a dancer
A telephone that rings but who's to answer
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
These foolish things remind me of you

Tinkling Teddy Wilson. What a pianist, met him once in the 1950s. Billie + Teddy = sublime.

Whoever is in charge of these Billie Holiday uploads, it would be nice and very helpful if you could put down the date of the recording and if they are live recordings of Billie then put down the date and where it was recorded. It's too bad that there are basically no recordings of her time with Artie Shaw. It's incredible what she did for jazz vocal singing, there's a lot to learn about phrasing from listening to her recordings; she was all self-taught from my understanding from reading about her - but then again so were many great jazz, pop, rock singers throughout history, she like all the great singers had and have an inner gift of a special personal way of hearing and listening to instruments and being able to express that with their own singing voice and usually without any formal musical training and almost always singing from a young age and also almost always from childhood traumatic events which express themselves later in their teens and young adulthood in some artistic vehicle of expression, and for Eleanora Fagan / Billie Holiday it was her voice that became her vehicle of artistic expression. It's really too bad how she got hooked up with many wrong people who abused her and used her throughout her short brilliant life and it's tragic about her involvement with drugs and alcohol. She forever changed vocalizing popular music regardless of its musical genre.

Oh! Will you never let me be?
Oh! Will you never set me free?
    The ties that bound us
    Are still around us
There's no escape that I can see
And still those little things remain
That bring me happiness or pain
    A cigarette that bears a lipstick's traces
An airline ticket to romantic places
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you
A tinkling piano in the next apartment
Those stumbling words that told you what my heart meant
    A fair ground's painted swings
These foolish things remind me of you
You came you saw you conquer'd me
When you did that to me
I knew somehow this had to be
The winds of March that make my heart a dancer
A telephone that rings but who's to answer?
Oh, how the ghost of you clings!
These foolish things remind me of you
First daffodils and long excited cables
And candle lights on little corner tables
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you
The park at evening when the bell has sounded
The "Ile de France" with all the gulls around it
    The beauty that is Spring's
These foolish things remind me of you
How strange how sweet to find you still
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you near to me
The sigh of midnight trains in empty stations
Silk stockings thrown aside dance invitations
Oh, how the ghost of you clings!
These foolish things remind me of you
Gardenia perfume ling'ring on a pillow
Wild strawb'ries only seven francs a kilo
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you
The smile of Garbo and the scent of roses
The waiters whistling as the last bar closes
    The song that Crosby sings
These foolish things remind me of you
How strange how sweet to find you still
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you near to me
The scent of smould'ring leaves, the wail of steamers
Two lovers on the street who walk like dreamers
Oh, how the ghost of you clings!
These foolish things remind me of you

Again to the administrator of this Billie Holiday You Tube site, I am an American living in Austria and many times I need to use my VPN to show that I am in the US in order to access certain sites, and this particular Billie Holiday You Tube "These Foolish Things" upload will not let me in with my VPN set to the US location, I have to switch my VPN off and then I can listen to this "These Foolish Things" upload, but several other of your Billie Holiday You Tube uploads let me in with my VPN set to the US location; so is that a "don't allow" parameter you have intentionally set as administrator on this particular Billie Holiday You Tube "These Foolish Things" upload? This would mean anyone from anywhere in the world in my situation with a VPN set to the US location would not be able to listen to this Billie Holiday You Tube "These Foolish Things" upload, which translates as less revenue for you! FYI - I subscribed to your Billie Holiday You Tube site early this morning my time.
