Lyrics:
The mere idea of you
The longing here for you
You never know how slow the moments go
Till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love

The first time I heard this song was in the film Forever Young when Mel Gibson & Jamie Leigh Curtis dance cheek to cheek. I was about 12. I’m 40 soon and have been a devoted fan of Billie Holiday ever since. Such a beautiful song x
me too
Same
Me too!
🙂same here!
Me too haha
My dad used to sing this song. One day at work, a friend was trying to remember the lyrics. That night, I had my dad write them down. My friend from work was most impressed. Wish I could hear Dad sing it again.
Bless you Andrea x
Honey , you will... one day
God Bless Brothers and Sisters.
Her voice is like the comfort of a friend when my heart is breaking
Perfect!
Same here 💔
I agree. My husband recently transitioned on November 30th 2021. Still "recently" in my mind. Because daily I'm reminded he's not coming back. It's heart breaking indeed 💔.
I listened to Billie every waking hour. My soul and heart are torn.
We were to celebrate our 21st year today being together and our 15th wedding anniversary on March 22nd. My birthday/chapter 46 on March 2nd and his on March 17th. It stinks.
The comfort is slow 🐌 coming but it is there.
Exact. Her voice is warm🧡🌞
@@MrsTiffanyMartinez bless you.💧🤗
My beloved mother has stage 4 cancer.
We're devastated.
She is too young, active, and vibrant, at 76.
I pray for her to be at peace with her impending rise to God.
I also pray that she is as pain free as possible during her final journey.
Please pray for my mother's passing to be peaceful, filled with faith, and for her not to be scared, as is humanly possible.
Prayers from a musically inclined community mean especially a lot.
May you have the strength and comfort when the moment comes
Her soul will be in paradise ❤.
Same here I have stage 4 blood cancer!!! And I’m 65
@@thomasrayner1364i will pray for your healing
não pude deixar de me emocionar. A minha esta com alzheimer em estagio final. Como esta sua mae?. Um grande abraço do Brasil
I was about 13 years old when I first heard this song. I was a little girl writing in journals poetry and watching stars from my window at night. Sure, it sounds so basic, but that was the peaceful beauty of it. The same as the simplistic beauty of this song. No crazy beats and thumps. Just a song you became a day dreamer dancing to this with the one you love. Hearing this is that joy all over again. Thank you. ❤
You sound like my kinda girl, so basic is always best - why complicate things? Your comment is beautiful and it just so happens I’m watching the stars from my window now at the age of 42 with this gorgeous song playing in the background. Hope everything is good in your world xx
I love this song, I heard it for the first time in the film of Mel Gibson, Eternally Young.
Exactly the same!!
*Forever Young
As mentioned, it's Forever Young, and yes, they used this song very beautifully. ❤
Forever young... A great movie...
The first thing I think of when I hear this song
Billie's voice is perfection! One quality the greats often display in their singing voices is that peculiar timbre and texture, where it starts to resemble an instrument. Ella had that, for example. But when either one of them does that 'quiet belt', leaning into the power of a note, with compression, but not so much volume, and the straight, even delivery gets that clean edge to it? Love that!
To have heard her in person must have been magical ❤️
It's so good because all of them are amazing. Not just Billie. Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, the piano and the horns are on point
Teddy Wilson ❤❤❤
To My MOM...
ALLWAYS IN MY THOUGHTS AND MY HEART !!!
This is my favorite song, she was definitely a treasure.
AL BOWLLY WROTE IT. SORRY.

I found this song out when I was about 13 years old in the 80s. Id hold the radio cassette recording to my ear at night while staying up all night in my house. What a voice. What a story. What a woman
“Forever Young” 💋
Billie Holiday knew how to emote. Her entire life prepared her for honest emoting on stage.
I met a woman an angel who sang this song so beautifully her voice and that night will stay in my heart forever ❤ LC
Beautiful song, Beautiful voice
A beautiful voice that was taken from this world too soon.
Lyrics :
The very thought of you and I forget to do
The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do
I'm living in a kind of daydream
I'm happy as a king
And foolish though it may seem
To me that's everything
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you
You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
Thank you💎

Thank you for your kindness to write the lyrics of this very beautiful song. It is appreciated it…at least, I do! 👍🙌♥️
I was seven or eight when my parents bought this recording. It immediately went straight to the heart and has remained for me the most direct expression of deep feelings that I know. Awesome and mysterious.
No one could ever take her place...what a voice.
🙏 for everyone who was introduced and truly touched by the first time hearing this song in the film forever young.
I've heard many from back in that special time for music....when things seemed so much more pure, but I always come back to Lady Day for more. In the spirit world, I hope that she's aware of her impact and the amount of love for her... For as much as we've learned about her, even her process for selecting songs and her almost unique interpretations of her performances (there's some hints of Satchmo there...), I'll bet you that the half has never been told.
Forever young a good picture with this song
I hope I'll get to hear your voice again, beautiful Ms. Holiday. You deserved so much better in your life. Rest peacefully, knowing YOU are the one who shall live in pages of beautiful musical history. Not those who hated you. YOU!!
This song was running through my head today, out of nowhere,or somewhere deep in my heart. Reading the comments below only add to the beauty of this gem. Words cannot say.
Forever young film always brings me here ☺️
I wish I could have met her even once just to hug her and thank her for such a beautiful voice and for giving her all to her songs and I also wish I could have been that one true friend that she needed and deserved but never had ❤️🤗🦋🐾🙏👏👏👏😢 thank you Billie 👏👏🙏🐾🦋🤗❤️
SUCHHHH A BEAUTIFUL GODDESS!!! 🥰❤️😍
The vocals have a unique almost instrumental quality and sound and style.
Forever Young , forever classic
Music made back when people actually had talent. Now we just suffer with auto tune.
forever young
I love this song so much. It's the first one I listened from her and fell in love.
Billie is the best rapper , my favorite!! 🌹 “I see your face in every flower”
The song was written by Ray Noble.
This is my favorite song of all time. It brings my such joy. She is a legend.
She’s the best
Billie Holiday has such an amazing voice, I love this cover of the song.
Beautiful! Lady Day.
Ahhh... when LOVE was true & whole hearted!!!
I need to go there!!!!!!
Her voice is an instrument all by itself just like the queen of soul-the great Ms. Aretha Franklin. Two legends resting in the heavens. Peace.
The Book “Tuesdays with Morrie” brought me here 😊
No words... Bright forever!!! Ecstasy of love... Unique times 🎶🎷❤🔟👌🏻
The first time I heard this song was when I saw the movie “Forever Young” with Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis and loved it. I know Nat King Cole sings it, as well as Natalie Cole and Tony Bennett. It is a very beautiful song before I was born but I like it.
Billie Holiday like Ella Fitzgerald were the great ladies of jazz in different times but very much greater!
God bless Billie Holiday’s soul always, she was a great singer of jazz music, and a legend. May she Rest in Peace always 🤬💐
I had a very good friend many years ago who loved Billie and turned me on to her music. Unfortunately we lost touch in 1999.... wherever you are Sam, I still think of you. xxx. Chris
Forever Young brings me here.
the lyrics in this song is the most beautiful, and romantic for a love song!
Not sure if it's the recording, or added, but the crackle of the record just sets the mood perfectly. A hot, summer evening, honeysuckle perfume in the air and the person I love....
Should read about the other members of her band, particularly the pianist, who was so young, and died young, too. So talented.
Theodore Shaw, "Teddy" Wilson the pianist of many of Lady's early hits was also more renowned him and Lionel Hampton as members of Benny Goodman auxiliary outfit; didn't die "so" young unless 73 years old is young , not super old, but damn sure ain't young. Born November 24 1912 Died July 31 1986 come with facts, this kind of information is so easy to research, so what have you read about Mr. Wilson yourself? Take your time there's always Google.
@@jameswalton3930 Why the hostile reply? Maybe you should educate yourself on Margaret Queenie Johnson, who played piano for this piece, and died of tuberculosis at only about age 20.
Heard of her, she was from K.C. was a prodigy with great pormise, she made a few recordings, but noway she was in a band with Lady she did a session or so. though she was on the scene for a minute, and yes it was tragic for anyone to pass that young, actually Lady really never had a band, and it was common then they would put artists (soloist and singers) name on a record and say "and their orchestra" Only actual bands she was officially in was with Basie for about a year, and Artie Shaw's crew for a little less than a year or so.Otherwise Lady freelance with the top jazz musician of the day; thats why she was so beloved by fellow musicians; but her main partners in her early successes was, Wilson, and tenorman Lester " Prez Young" sorry if was crass. An excellent biography on Holiday is titled Wishing on the Moon. A great read, informative, funny and also very tragic, though she passed at 44, she packed alot of life in. But in general she for the most part did not waddle in being a victim though she was; she lived her life on her terms, though recklessly. Again apologies for my forwardness.
My favorite song of her's
Beautiful and tender song that touches the hearts of two people in love, but due to existing obstacles between their lives, they cannot express that love. For this reason, they have no other solution than to continue living with that pain and desolation, and suffer sleepless nights thinking about the person they love. What bitterness it is to feel that the heart implodes inside the chest, followed by that sensation of suffocation to end with that blow to the stomach, a symptom of the impotence of not being able to shout, "I love you."
**JESUS CHRIST!!!! WHAT A POWERFUL POST!!**
É nesse jardim que essa Gata está cantando. Sempre Diva.
just a great lady and singer , you think she is just singing tou in person !
What a voice!!❤❤ It’s just beyond words. The timing!!!! Wtf!! Out of this world! I adore her!🥰🥰💕💕
Billie could make you feel it to your core
When I hear this song 🎶 The Very Thought of You🎶 I remember when I went to the movie theater to watch the movie “Forever Young” with Mel
Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis. It was a very lovely and nice movie and funny at times. Billie Holiday was a very beautiful lady, classy, elegant and exquisite. I was not even born when she was singing but this song stuck with me when I heard it for having a nice melody with beautiful lyrics. I have this song by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many others. And again, when these jazz singers were active singing, I wasn’t even born and my Mom never thought about ever getting married 😊😂
Very lovely video of a singing icon, Billie Holliday, of an era where elegance, class and beauty and great jazz music was very much the way of life.
Rest in Peace always, Billie, I am sure you are sorely missed by those who knew you and can appreciate great music. 🙏🌹
Billy is timeless beautiful

The first time I heard this song I was a kid . I watched the movie with Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis too . My parents were still together I would give anything to have my parents together again . And I’m 32 my parents are 63 and 65 . Sadly divorced my dad is remarried and lives out of state . This movie always reminds me of them .
Im here listening to this after watching mel gibson in forever young

Billie Ella Aretha Tina.. The broad spectrum of the uniqueness and art of music was in good hands. Thank you ladies you will forever be in my head with countless masterpieces
we, my wife & I bought this on a single 45 rpm record at a garage sale after hearing it I proposed to her that was about 40 yrs ago this Sept. in 1983 it was played at our wedding reception & every ten years since then on our anniversary I sometimes cheat & listen to it on here.
Why, men don't learn to dance is beyond me. There's something amazing that happens when a man puts his hand on the small of your back and can lead with your hands that are touching. It's beautiful.
A truly beautiful renditon of noble the very thought of you ❤
This song is so calming and the instrument solos are beautiful
mon idole pour toujours et à jamais ! 😍🥰🤩💘🙇♂️🙏💕

I like that this song offers a solo for the musicians.
Listen to I’ll Be Seeing You by Billie Holiday. It is the best of all times
Very nice Billie with the core of the Count Basie band of that time. This session which included 3 more songs were the only recordings by pianist, Margaret "Countess" Johnson. A musical prodigy, Johnson was an active part of the Kansas City jazz scene as a teenager. She worked in sessions and seversl bands there including one she led. Her style on this and the other 3 tunes is quite different from both Count Basie and Teddy Wilson. She died in 1939 at twenty years old. Nina Cherry has a short but intriguing piece on "Countess" in Kansas City Magazine, Dec. 2,2021
Billie es fantástica, la amo
