I wouldn't worry about the hook being too big for a flathead; I have caught flathead on a tailor rig of 3 x 5/0 ganged hooks. I have even caught a 12 cm fish on a 13 cm bait.
Thanks for posting an interesting and entertaining fishing video. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Cheers

Really instructive and great quality footage, thank you Roger. I plan on catching some small bait fish next time I go for some flathead, I'm tired of losing other bait to the tiny fish before anything else can get on the line.
I saw the evair Shimano fishing shoes towards the beginning of the video. Would you say these are suitable for estuary fishing where you're wading in knee deep water? I have the standard wetsuit material surf shoes at the moment and my feet cop an absolute battering from the sand in the shoes.

    • @RogerOsborneFishing

The Evair shoes are great. I wear them in the weedy parts of the lake to protect my feet from oysters etc

Love the vids!! Tip I learned when rigging a live bait through the back is to angle the hook tip towards the front of the fish this always exposes the the tip before the shank. Little things often make a difference. Also hooking though the belly side towards the tail works well when there is not too much run I like to do this with smaller mullet ect. Love your work.
Ps I’m from Qld a couldn’t live without my castanets😳

    • @RogerOsborneFishing

Yabbies are a soft bait so the barb does not need to be exposed. Most fish just inhale them.

great vid nice work. one tip though; the way you handled the first flattie will put off people who like fishing but aren’t real fishos. better to break its neck first prior all the pushing and tugging. please don’t take this the wrong way it’s just being a tad more humane when you’re going to such a large audience .
