  • Great Western Castle class 7029 Clun Castle and 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe came together over the 26th and 27th September to take Vintage Trains "The Mayflower" over the Devon Banks from Bristol to Plymouth.
This had to be the highlight of the year for any fan of anything Great Western first we had 5043 attacking Shap, them 7029 single handed demolition of the Devon Banks with the rerun of 1Z48 now double heading over the Devon Banks.
Firstly we see 7029 & 5043 heading for Bristol on the Friday passing Corston.
For the Mayflower run itself we see the two Castles powering out of Bristol at the site of the old Malago Sidings, preceded by the two class 20s which would shadow the to castles over the Devon Banks. My second location was at a very windy Hazard Farm which offers great views over the top part of Rattery. Stoke Canon was the chosen for the return leg as this offered the possibilty of great light from the setting sun only for it to sink behind a cloud just before the 2 Castles appear.
This was a great celebration of Great Western steam on home ground, Vintage Trains and Network Rail pulled out all the stops, cant wait for their next offering.
