Tis AC Motors. Speed control for acceleration and slowing down is regulated by Variable Frequency from the Drive Unit. Most of todays new lift (elevator) installations are Variable Frequency controlled as it is considered to be "Green Friendly" and energy efficient. My favoured choice for higher speed and better regulation is DC Motorised.
also making a small fortune on using the AFD door system for automatic closet doors . passed most of the AHJ concerns . and still only using 110vac with >4lbs touque so babys dont get hurt .. only in america .mate
How did they operate back in the early days of building construction? I read a story where before automatic gears that stop a falling elevator, if the lines broke - there you went! I forget the longest fall, but I believe it was in the Empire State Building when (oddly enough) a plane crashed into it back in '46. A woman survived the fall of like 70 floors I think. I'll have to google that.
Very true, The Learning Channel had a documentary in that your remember ing this very same story was ecplained. The program was titled Modern Marvels (series), Episode The Empire State Building.Viewed originally in late 1990'searly 2000's this episode of MM was produced.
clean job in the country your in .I guess ?some UK or AU area ? But, what is a brake chopper? You got this 35yr elevator mechinic concerned . I thought I seem it all . Know do I need to tour the world for a complete knowage ? or just a dictionary on elevator slang. it only took 1.5 yrs. to get apprentices the call a rail a car or counter weight guide rail. not the stick thing that the box goes up and down on ?? and he is one of the smart ones , LOL
Yep you're not wrong on that. In my opinion MRL is the worst engineering idea in Elevator technology. I have seen different variety of it around. The worst ones around OTIS Gen II, Schindler Smart Lift, KONE's Monospace and ThyssenKrupp Evolution. The Best ones are Neu Lift FST, and some Chinese Made MRL's such as SJEC and BLT are not too bad.

John is A New York based Elevator tech with some of the best descriptive videos on older types of Elevators and all the how to do information. He also has a site elevaider. com . This guy has been in Elevator Business 30 + years and really knows his stuff inside out. A few times he has been helpful with information on how fix some of my elevators when I get stuck. Also great old elevator technology on video.
You know what I LOVE THIS MOTER!

these are AC VVVF motors - Variable Velocity Variable Frequency
Are those DC motors or AC? I can't see how they could operate and hold if they were AC...but I'm not the expert!

jorologo cavalos
Disagree over Kone MonoSpace, since they're some of the best built MRLs ever made.
Why you stop
MRL's are the worst thing to ever happen to the elevator industry. they should be banned.
