Interesting that Google seems to be going all in on AI for music. Makes sense.... while all the other big players in AI are competing on image/video generation, google can position themselves as leaders in sound/music. I hope they focus more of their efforts on building tools for musicians and producers instead of just generating songs. MusicFX has been getting most of the attention, but their Instrument Playground is FAR more interesting / exciting IMO. Instead of replacing the musician, it gives them a sandbox to make something in. It's way too limited to actually be useful right now, but it represents so much potential. Being able to generate any playable instrument you can imagine with a text prompt could be insanely popular with electronic music producers if done well. Especially if it could be installed as a VST and used in a DAW. One plugin that can be the ultimate drum machine, synthesizer, sample library, a realistic virtual acoustic instrument, maybe even an instrument that doesn't exist in the real world.
This video had my face hurting from all the grinning, and my skin felt like fire from all the goosebumps (duck with lips-bumps?). Thank you Dan Deacon, and Google Labs, for putting wonderful weird things like this out in the world :)

I seriously expected something different when I started watching this video. A few guitar riffs. I could even handle harps and trumpets. I skipped most of the video because I couldn't stand the way it was vomiting synth music into my ears. I guess that's why pretty much all valuable information passed me by. I really tried, but Synth causes physical defensive reactions in me. It would have been nice if the presentation had been a little more musically diverse.
