After running a Wrenn 2-6-4 G.W.R. tank loco last week I said I'd show you a rebuild of the Hornby Dublo / Wrenn vertical motor soon. In this video I show a similar loco, a non runner, and how I got it up and performing well again. Thanks for watching
This video has really helped with my restoration of a Dublo Class 4!
Thanks for watching, it's good to hear the video was helpful. Take care, all the best to you
Good morning Mr Snooze lovely looking model and runs beautifully after the overhaul.
Take care.
Oscar
It's amazing how time flies by when you're having fun mending locos Oscar. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
What a beauty. It runs so smoothly thanks to your meticulous work. 😊
Hello Pauline, it's always satisfying when an item runs better after a service. This is still running well at the moment. Best regards to you
Exciting edge of the seat stuff, but still undefeated, a masterclass. Cheers, Andy.
Thanks for watching Andy, take care, all the best to you
For cleaning through tight areas such as the Brush retaining holes a Pipe Cleaner is your best friend.
Yes I really need to get hold of some. I'll put them on my list of items required. Thanks for looking, all the best to you
Nice to meet you yesterday. I have just subscribed. That is a lovely locomotive.
Good to see you too, it was a nice event, thanks for taking a look at the channel. Also, great chocolate cake. Best regards to you
Hi. Wren had silver wheels for non trailer wheels which looked great but caused arcing on tight bends. Hornby Dublo just had the dull ones. The Dull ones dont arc as much againsr cylinders and I guess people swap em for the earlier Hornby Dublo ones or just replace them with Plastic ones....Only GL Wren can get away with a GWR livered Standard Tank! He indeed a Genius as it looks great! Thanks Again
Hello John, That's interesting information about the arcing, I'll look out for it when I test these items in the future. If its a problem I guess plastic is the way to go. Take care, all the best to you
One of the first repairs I ever did was a Hornby Dublo 3-rail 'Duchess of Atholl' so, thanks for bringing back memories of exploring this vertical motor technology. I was really pleased to see your 2-6-4 tank running so smoothly after its service. Well done on a very informative video. Cheers, Jim L
Thanks for watching Jim, the Dublo Atholl is a lovely item. I hope you still have yours. Best regards to you
Amazing effect from a little cleaning, lubrication and bearing adjustment. Beautiful model, once the buffer is back in place it will be like new. Regards, David.
Hello David, I shall have to get that buffer sorted soon. I can't stop noticing it now. Best regards to you
Another great video Mr Snooze😊
Thanks for watching Malcolm, it's nice to know you enjoyed this. Best regards to you
What a difference a good service can do,looking forward to more videos on your return all the best.
Thanks for watching this Bob, I look forward to doing more work on the railway soon. Best regards to you
Very informative video. Time I got a Wrenn loco to play with. All the best.
I hope you do get a Wrenn model at some point Steve, they might be a little old fashioned but they are made nicely. The little R1 tank is a good item to start with. Best regards to you
Another No Nonsense Success. I Do Like The Way You Explain Things Without Over Complicating 👍
Thanks for the kind comments Tim, it's good to hear you enjoyed seeing this rebuild. Best regards to you
The Hornby Dublo EDL18 / Wrenn 2 6 4 was one of the best RTR locos ever produced.
I tend to agree with you. I'd love to get hold of a 5 pole Wrenn vertical armature to try one in a 2-6-4, I bet it would be super smooth. Take care, all the best to you
Told you, you can't beat a good take to bits, what's next😁👍👍
I'm trying to decide what's next but I'm a bit busy at the moment because I have my main computer all in bits. Where's my thermal paste when I need it 😁 . Best regards to you
@@MrSnooze In the motor bearings😉😁🤣
Very nice work as always. That's a nice loco, worth fixing up. :)
Thanks for watching again, I am pleased with this item now and it's still running well. Take care, best regards to you
Really helpful Mr.Snooze, now to have a look at my A4 Mallard which has similar issues.
I hope you get that Mallard running nicely, thanks for watching, all the best to you
A few weeks ago I obtained one, it only starts to go with the gauagemaster controller at 50. Now that I have seen your video I will give it a service, hopefully the performance will improve.
Hello Dennis, I hope you get yours running ok. Maybe you could check the current draw, if it's a little high it perhaps needs a remag. All the best to you
🤩
Great work Mr Snooze, looks like it’s running a bit better than the green one now on average drawing slightly less amps.
Hello Robin, I think you are correct, I will have to give the Green one a bit of a going over too. Best regards to you
Nice video
Thanks Roy, take care, all the best to you
Nice work.
Very clear and simple. 👍
I'll have to do the same on my City of London.
I've been holding off waiting to see your video.
My biggest fear taking it all apart is losing the top bearing.
I'll let you know how I go.
Thank you.
Mon from Brisbane
PS. Happy holidays.
Hello Mon, if you take it apart on a tray even if the ball falls out you should not loose it. I hope you get yours running well soon. Best regards to you
Great stuff, I've got one that runs well but makes a god-awful noise, can't stop it lol
Hello Mike. If it's very noisy try easing the pole pieces away from the armature a little. Also check the armature bearings aren't worn out. I bet you get it fixed. Best regards to you
@@MrSnooze thanks, been at it for years lol it arrived sounding like it does when brand new
Hi,
Excellent and informative video, many thanks.
I have the same model HD 2-Rail ‘8033’, boxed and in lovely condition. It is a bit hesitant in reverse and it has the adjusting screw at the back of the magnet however, I have no idea what it does or what the adjustment is. Any thoughts on both these points would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Gordon
Hello Gordon, thanks for looking at the video. I often find a careful cleaning of the commutator and brushes helps with the type of hesitancy you have. The adjustable magnet feature on your loco is something I hope to show in a future video. Best regards to you
Would this apply to the vertical motor duchess steam locomotives have plus the other vertical motor locomotives?
Hello, there are differences but nothing major. I believe different armature bearings are fitted to earlier chassis but so long as you adjust the armature end float roughly to about 5 thou up and down all should be well. Also you need to be able to remag the motor too. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
@@MrSnooze my Hornby dublo city of London does run and luckily there is no dirt on the magnets however I don't own a remagnitiser so I do try to service them without taking them apart
What are the dates for leicester train collector fair and where is it being held
