    Looking forward to the EMR video as work at Derby head office. Having some of the inside knowledge of EMT, they weren't too good in terms of running a railway. We are still living with most of the problems they created back in the 2010's. Keep up these great videos :)

    East mids parkway is such a nothing station (as a local!); they had the right idea for hs2 with planning a station in the sidings by toton and long eaton, since that actually serves some amount of people locally as well as connecting to the nottingham tram, but with the eastern branch long cancelled years ago I guess we'll never see Toton station!

    Agreed, stagecoach was useless while EMT was successful. and yes I have memories of EMT, staff were super friendly. sometimes trains where overcrowded, I remember coming from London and having to sit on a suitcase by the doors on the London - Kettering service. I also remember going in 1st class as a guard upgraded me to 1st class. Better than other TOC’s on the meridians. and the stock they used was relatively good on the STP-N/A services.

    East Midlands Trains were very good and they ordered the Class 222 Meridians that were used on London St. Pancras-Corby, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield and East Midlands Parkway.
    I really liked the livery on their rolling stocks including on the Class 43 Mk3 HSTs and Class 153, Class 156 and Class 158 DMUs.

    The second service to Sheffield each hour was a good move but on the most part I found EMT to be pretty poor. Very expensive compared to the ECML services, often decrepit and overcrowded trains and very poor standards of cleanliness especially towards the end.
    The worst was the customer service though, wrote to complain to them several times and their customer service had a habit of dismissing complaints or downright lying.
    I hope things will improve with the new and refurbished trains of EMR when they happen but i do think that Norwich to Liverpool should be moved to CrossCountry or split at Nottingham with half going to Transpennine and half going to EMR.
    One of the biggest issues for both EMT and EMR intercity services though is that the four domestic platforms at St Pancras are woefully inadequate.

    I used to catch the train from Nottingham and get off at one the stations on the Robin Hood line to see my girlfriend now wife. It use to be every half hour during the day from platform 1 and 3B at Nottingham. Covid hit then went down to one train an hour which is quite poor. As for East Midlands Airport, from Nottingham it will be useful if the tram could be extended, not the rail franchise.
    As always a great video.

    It's a bit of a stretch for EMT to claim any credit for the rise in Eurostar passengers following the switch to St Pancras... after all, there's little difference between walking from the MML platforms to the International ones at St Pancras compared to walking from Kings Cross.
    It did annoy me when they received Sprinters from Northern and put posters up apologising for the condition of the units... only to let their own units deteriorate over the next few years. The state of the 222s was atrocious by the time the EMT franchise ended, with threadbare seats and sticky carpets.
    Also, their refurbished 158s are awful, with only a few table bays remaining and barely any legroom in the airline seats. If I'm riding any (now EMR) routes that use their 158s I always hope that the ex-SWT unit will show up.

    • @Vanmanyo
      @Vanmanyo  Месяц назад +4

      Funnily enough the actual EMT website suggested that they did affect Eurostar passengers so that is why I included it!
      The sprinters are pretty poor yes, the ex EMR ones with Northern are in a terrible state.
      The 158s are not terrible imo but definitely outdated now. Hopefully their EMR refresh will re invigerate them!

      @@Vanmanyo marketing departments will say that because they share stations stagecoach sould always be taken with a pinch or salt yes sure they opened 2 new stations one was useless and the said bus to the airport stopped operating only a year after opening meaning it's only accessible now via taxi or a park and ride now the station is cold on the inside as it tapped off the cooling system for ratcliffe for thermal tapping into then cooling towners next door and since the powerplant has been slated for demolition it means that the station no longer has any heating
