I admittedly bought the M3 Pro 14" model over a refurb M1 Pro or M2 Pro due to the Space Black color. 🙋♂ I don't need the power of a MacBook Pro either, but wanted the better display, better speakers, and extra ports. I could've gone with the M1/M2 Pro for less money, but I really love the Space Black. Performance-wise, my M1 MacBook Air is still a rocket, so I imagine the M3 Pro should be more than enough for years.

Thanks for reviewing a system with the M3 Pro! I'm looking at the 16-inch MBP with the M3 Pro. I want the larger screen and the M3 Pro is the minimum processor on the 16-inch. And M3 Max would be too pricey for my needs. In terms of RAM and storage, I'm thinking of maxing out the M3 Pro's RAM to 36 GB (the most you can get with the M3 Pro) and opting for at least 1 TB storage. I would be upgrading from a mid-2014 MBP 15-inch with Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD. This was the second to the last model with the light-up Apple logo on the lid, all of the ports, and the old scissor keyboard. All before the move to the butterfly keyboard, Touch Bar, and USB-C/Thunderbolt ports only. Having a machine that is 9 years old is a testament to the longevity and power (even as a Core i7) of the MBP.

That being said I still plan on doing some gaming on a mac book, mainly games like Runescape and possibly whatever titles catch my interest that are available on Steam on Mac, I will most likely be hooking my mac book to my 32-inch monitor via HDMI, rather than using the built-in screen for the most part.
I'm really torn between the 18 and 36GB options. I wish they had one in between. I've been using my last Macbook Pro since 2014 and I think the 18GB will not be as future-proof.
I feel your pain… i plumped with 18GB option as the RAM does seem to be more efficient and it can use the SSD if overstretched. Depends how much your gonna use it. I use it for illustration, light animation, designing furniture and the odd bit of modelling in blender. It is astonishing how quick it can render in blender compared to the old m2 pro, despite an on-paper downgrade in GPU. Space Black Magic!
About the question: "should you upgrade?". Depends on the person's needs. For someone who is working in IT (software development), it could be a great upgrade performance wise.
Wow finally you unboxing with the new MacBook M3 pro thanks for sharing with your unboxing reviews and comparisons to M2 pro I really enjoyed watching you making always and great and very nice Videos 🤩😍❤️💯
With 512gb of hard drive are you not extremely limited on the programs you can have installed? Q: Did you do the other vid yet about apps and stuff like you said? Been a month now.
I think here are my thoughts, If you have an M2 no need to upgrade, If you coming from maybe an M1 or really the intel chip then it is a more compelling upgrade. The M3 is a leap forward if you get the Max chip but even then many users are still fine with M2 chip as they are still relevant
The only thing I wish I had on the M2 is ray tracing. I'm really not much of a gamer, I've only ever needed ray tracing one time (and even then, it was the mod that needed it and not the base game, so I really am not missing out on much).
I’m interested in the m3 pro pricing and in more depth would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2012 MPB WITH 16 GIG OF RAM AND 1T SSD. IS IT TIME TO UPGRADE IHAVE BEEN WAITING TO ORDER.
I currently have the macbook air 2019 1,6 GHz dual-core intel core i5, 8 RAM. I'm thinking of upgrading to this one :) Can't wait to notice the difference and be able to work faster on my mac!
Thanks for review mate! Could you compare 16" M2max vs. 16" M3pro with same hardware on both? That would be amazing because everyone compares max vs max or pro vs pro. If the newest pro version is similar to maxed previous version I'll go for the newest to get those extra 100nits for the same money. Thanks in advance!
I do like that apple had the macbook black in colour but is it much of an upgrade from the m2 Pro macbook and with final cut Pro coming to the ipad aswell as a magic keyboard which dou you most prefer especially if you were strictly into photography and content creation putting aside the hard-core activities that need more power.
As a graphic design student who consistently runs photoshop, lighroom, and illustrator, my ipad does not have the same capabilities as a macbook. I find myself having to work on a lot of projects on the school computers
@@MattTalkTech I have got the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, 1TB, 18 GB Unified Memory. I honestly can’t tell you how much different it is, and you definitely weren’t lying about the difference with intel based macs, and apple silicon!!
Instead of this 11/14 core model go for M3 Pro with 12/18 cores, nearly 29% more gpu cores for a very affordable price. I also went with the 1TB SSD, well worth it. Believe it or not, the 1TB SSD gives me 6300 WRITE and 5100 READ in Blackmagic.
I think it is a sweet spot for M1 MacBook Pro owners to upgrade, if you consider used value of your current Notebook. Figured that if I sell my M1 Max and swap it for an M3 Max I would be set off about 700 Euros, think the difference will not be lower again.
Alex zeskind says keep the M1 Max, unless you export videos and do YT all day as one of his exports takes 30 mins. Speedometer 2.1 was fast on the m3 pro. 537 and 575 in his unboxing. Matt should do those tests as most people use single core or surf the web on mbp. 😂

I want something portable and a little faster than the iMac for a big project that I'll be doing for the next 12 months or so. But is the iMac technically faster than the M2 Pro and M3 Pro? Are the M2 Max and M3 Max the only chips with enough GPU to compete with the desktop I already have? Seriously asking, I don't know how to figure this out.

M2 Pro for you, look at the Exports of H.265 what is the most common format people who export at, apart from actual Hollywood/netflix movie makers. Also if you are recording on a sub $2000 digital camera or even your iPhone with point and record, again most likely you will be recording in an H.265 or H.264 format and M2 Pro and M3 Pro are neck and neck here with working with these formats as they both have the same video encoders and decorders@@jcsdarnell

@@thehoarsewhisperer1929 So your M3 pro is faster than your M2 pro?
Just ordered the 14” MacBook Pro on B&H pre Black Friday sale at $200 off. Looking forward to it coming from a 13” M1 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.
About the question: "should you upgrade?". Depends on the person's needs. For someone who is working in IT (software development), it could be a great upgrade performance wise.
Thank you for M3 Pro overview . i will be upgrace from an Intet Macbook pro 13” (2019) to the M3 Pro 14: 512 GB basic version.
Down to earth review. Finally. Everone speaks abour m3 max which is not relevant for most users
Awesome bro thanks for sharing this
No problem 👍
just upgraded from 2017 i5 MacBook Pro to this 14 inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro and my golly. It is amazing!
Ooo WOW! A BIG UPGRADE!! Do you love it?
@@MattTalkTech very much :)
I currently have a 2017 MBP w/ only 8gigs of RAM.. cannot wait to upgrade to this 14 inch MBP.. its gonna be a rocket ship compared to my old pc
Awesome, you will love the upgrade I am sure!
Which one would you recommend for Music Production.. coming from a Windows Laptop
Depends how many music feeds are coming into the MacBook also, do you use multiple external monitors? More than 2?
@@MattTalkTech Just 1 ext monitor.. multitrack external interface for input/output
Very nice color! Will stick to my m2max MacBook though. Right now I’m saving for an iPhone 15pro ❤
Wow finally you unboxing with the new MacBook M3 pro thanks for sharing with your unboxing reviews and comparisons to M2 pro I really enjoyed watching you making always and great and very nice Videos 🤩😍❤️💯
So glad they have the new laptops it in the educational store
With 512gb of hard drive are you not extremely limited on the programs you can have installed? Q: Did you do the other vid yet about apps and stuff like you said? Been a month now.
Was waiting for this video, thank you matt❤
love the thumbnail selection haha
Can’t wait to get it !!!
I think here are my thoughts, If you have an M2 no need to upgrade, If you coming from maybe an M1 or really the intel chip then it is a more compelling upgrade. The M3 is a leap forward if you get the Max chip but even then many users are still fine with M2 chip as they are still relevant
Exactly my thinking too! But only from a normal M1 and you need that extra power for your needs. If not stick with what you got
The only thing I wish I had on the M2 is ray tracing. I'm really not much of a gamer, I've only ever needed ray tracing one time (and even then, it was the mod that needed it and not the base game, so I really am not missing out on much).
Hey Matt, Im a Music Producer and Logic Pro X gets laggy on my Mac Mini so which one would you reccomend for me? I like the M3 but what do you think
Gonna get the base 16, hope I enjoy it (I will, likely)
I am sure you will love it!
Thank you for your review Matt
Great review
You got one new subscriber today that's me 👍
Thanks for review mate!
I just upgraded from a 2015 intel MacBook Air!
Awesome! What have you upgraded to?
@@MattTalkTech I have got the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, 1TB, 18 GB Unified Memory.
I honestly can’t tell you how much different it is, and you definitely weren’t lying about the difference with intel based macs, and apple silicon!!
I have a 2013 intel mbp. Do you think it's worth the upgrade?
ooo yes! it will be a BIG UPGRADE and change!
Hahaha @@MattTalkTech
I love my touch bar. I am weird. I am sad that they did not contiue it. I use is soo often with media control and also play piano on it.
Looks nice I plan to get the m3 pro
The Question is, what model is needed for adobe premiere 4k video edit and export? Thank you.
You should mention that the m2 pro is the binned version, the unbinned m2 pro is close to the m3 pro
Ooo right cool! But as I mentioned this binned version is most likely the most common one sold
I think it is a sweet spot for M1 MacBook Pro owners to upgrade, if you consider used value of your current Notebook. Figured that if I sell my M1 Max and swap it for an M3 Max I would be set off about 700 Euros, think the difference will not be lower again.
Exactly, M1 to M3 Pro is a good upgrade!
looking for a major upgrade from Lenovo ideapad to this machine but one thing is backing me off and that is price difference in in India compare to other country i have to pay more like 200$ that is very unjustified.
Can you do video Install’s parallel
Might do that!
Extremely great video? ❤ can you tell us that is it good for vfx or not
I’m trying to decide between the new base model M3 Pro or refurbished M2 Pro? Mostly for video/photo editing

Thank you for doing the geekbench scores on the M3 pro! Haven’t seen any of these scores yet and picking up my M3 Pro 16in. Have a regular M1 chip 13inch MBP with touch bar now so excited to jump from M1 to M3 Pro.
I’m picking up 12CPU, 18GPU, 18RAM M3 Pro so I’m curious if my 18GPU will be better than the M2 Pro 16GPU - any thoughts? Thanks! Love your videos.
No problem, good choice on what you are picking!
What kind of storage did you take ?
@@sword_master-972the 12cpu/18gpu automatically comes with 1TB standard
@@sword_master-972 I stuck with 512gb. Couldn’t afford another 200$ for the 1TB and I have a bunch of external drives. Don’t travel too much with it, which is why I went for the 16inch, so will be home/local to use drives.
wonder what the difference will be between this one and my 2019 16" i9 machine... going to be fun to check when it arrives in a week or so...
I had the exact same situation. I got it yesterday and it is crazy faster. Pro-motion kicks really well on the screen, the overall performance is better at doing absolutely anything. Oh and it open instantly, even on external displays. That is nuts.
@@ErikCampobadal going to be fun to see. mine arrives today :)
If I had a choice, I'd love to get a 13inch MBA M2 in silver. My old laptop was a 2013 15inch Macbook Pro and it recently got broken. I think the new MBA is the best in terms of price, performance, and portability. By the way, love this new video on the 14 inch M3 Macbook Pro review! Keep the news coming!
No internal fan. Just get the MBP
Hey mate, can you tell me please, when you try to close the laptop screen, if you hear some little noise between keyboard and screen in a movement? It seems goes from black plastic loop...... I am in the second year of university studying computer science and engineering. I am going to start specialization in AI and Machine Learning from the third year. I am confused between a M3 Pro 14in MacBook Pro with (11C CPU and 12C GPU) OR with M2 Pro to purchase. Which one would you suggest? Thanks!
M3 pro
Just upgraded from 2019 intel. Was not sure if I wanted to get a 16 or 14 inch. I got the 14… haven’t received it yet but I hope I made the right decisions
You did, I had 16 i9 16", now 14" m3 pro. It feels amazing...
I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade from my mid 2020 iMac with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT (GPU) to one of these.
It depends as I say on what apps you will use to utilise those new graphics features at 13:41 If you don't need that graphics, get M2 Pro instead!
@@MattTalkTech Makes sense. The projects I do are essentially online courses, which sometimes need motion graphics, green screen keying, etc. But 85% of the work is 4K video editing. So… 🤔
M2 Pro for you, look at the Exports of H.265 what is the most common format people who export at, apart from actual Hollywood/netflix movie makers.
M3 pro max in black; most definitely.
In your opinion, how well do you think the base M3 pro 14 inch MacBook Pro would perform for music production I have been trying to find answers everywhere and so far no one is talking about the M3 pro at all and just the base M3 or the max version.
8 gb of RAM will not be sufficient long term for music. Go for 16 minimum....or more if you can.
So a MacBook M1 Pro chip would be the best choice, because the upgrades are very incremental.
Thanks for your review:) I did never own a MacBook but I’m planning to get one when it’s coming out in Holland (9 November). In the video edit test you did in the M3 iMac video with a base M3 and 8gb ram it was only 10 to 12 seconds faster than the "Pro" versions.
For video editing unless you're a "Pro" user your wasting your money in anything above a base MacBook air
