I’d never heard of Adam Kay before this but it was up there amongst my favourite episodes ever. I now have to go out and google everything he’s done. Thanks Rich!
Bought his book, laughed, cried and felt unbelievable anger towards the health secretary for his actions towards junior doctors. Go and buy Adam’s book, it’s excellent.
Read Adam Kay’s book and loved it. He’s genuinely funny and caring, and his experience on NHS as a doctor just floored me. I’ll have a lot more respect when I go to a hospital now. My therapist worked for 16y in NHS and she said gruelling schedule and seeing 80 patients a week with only 15min/person for therapy? She also did poker face and developed thick skin due to all kinds of stuff being thrown your way, from both the establishment and patients...
Read his book on the weekend. It's just a remarkable thing and highlights entirely the government-created challenges facing the NHS. 100% recommended reading.
I heard Adam Kay a few years ago on BBC Radio Scotland in Fred Macaulay's show doing song parodies that were quite good. Nice to find out more about him and to discover he's done so much more than that.
Agree with the positive comments here. Definitely one of the best RHLSTP’s EVER! I bet Adam’s book is a brilliant read. Shame shipping to Philippines (where I live now) is more than the book! I guess eBook is the answer... (hate them usually). Adam is hilarious too. Quality. Well done guys - makes all Richard’s hard work worthwhile when you get this result. Classic. 10/10.
I signed up for the BEER52 offer, so you should have got £5 from me... I then went to cancel after the Beer arrived, and they informed me i was eligible for another £10 off my next months subscription, so i plan on staying another month. I can highly recommend the Beer52 offer to all your fans. It's a bargain and great craft beers too. Currently listening to this podcast while trying the 'Funky Falcon Pale Ale' and it is lovely , Cheers Richard
I'm not gonna lie I normally ignore the sponsors and this one was the first that pricked up my ears. Trouble is I'm simultaneously a Masters student and in financial trouble, so even signing up for £5 a month could mean the difference between having food for a day.
The little shops also make money out of anyone who works there or is a patient or visitor. As prices are a lot higher than a regular shop cause they know no one can go anywhere else.
I've seen so many, I think ALL and 95% awesome/who could ask for more - but I'm pretty sure this has to go to no.1 in my charts. Looking fwd to 2-4-18 - hoping for, but not expecting AS good. But PLEEEASE - it will be my 50th birthday - make it special. #emotionalblackmail. If it's anyone like Ed Milliband, I'll have to cancel/waste my ticket/there'll be one up for grabs - watch tweets for 5% chance of a freebie offer.
There's adds on everything, better they are read by Ricard and the money goes into making more content! I'm fine with it......we forgive you Maggie Thatcher..... Oops too far.
not everyone can afford to drive. those who can afford to drive pay for the car parking. those who can't afford to drive don't pay for it. asking those who can't afford to drive to pay for the parking of those who can afford to drive is a tax on the poor, so charging for parking sounds fair to me.
What about rural areas where everyone has to drive no matter how poor they are, and then have to pay ridiculous amounts on parking on top? You can avoid making the poor pay more tax with a progressive tax rate.
I don't think everyone in rural areas has to drive no matter how poor they are, so I can't answer your question. Progressive tax rates are good. We have those too, although they don't go far enough. But back to hospital parking for a moment. Those who use it can pay for it, and if the benefits system was put back together again the costs could be recouped by those on low incomes. I used to think "ooh hospital parking fees, how bad!", until it was explained to me. Removing hospital parking fees is a UKIP policy. They have that and bring back smoking in pubs i think.
not everyone can afford to live. those who can afford to live pay for their health insurance. those who cant afford to live dont survive. thats the american health system and it will be the uk system in a few years time. charging staff, patients and visitors for parking at a hospital is an utter fucking disgrace, but its the tip of an immense iceberg and jeremy hunt has his little souvenir titanic captains hat on and is having a jolly old time gunning the engines full ahead. putting a few pounds in the meter will seem quaint when they start handing out £100k bills because you tripped and broke a couple of bones.

I love that Richard is still upholding his Cress sponsorship. Cress, cress, lovely lovely cress!

Loved this episode. I’m a junior Dr in NZ and can’t not wait to grab his book! Thanks Richard for doing these x

Loving your work great guest once again. Save the NHS before Starbucks NCP takes over!
or be smart & buy shares in NCP now - it worked for J.CHunt

Actually ordered Adam Kay's book, in paperback.

Glad for the advert as I ordered those beers and really enjoyed them :)
Woah! Nice chairs.
Haha. Great stories.
that's put me right off kinder eggs!
The I love Cress joke made the whole episode for me.
I read the comments before watching this and thought "it can't be that good" but it actually is probably my favourite RHLSTP ever
49:02: That image isn't going to leave me for quite some time. :(
This was as funny as it was fascinating! Made my day, Thank you

FIRST! Love this show!!! listen to it every morning with my coffee.
Great guest Rich. That candle story is so awful

Great episode! Get Tom Basden on soon!
Plush! :o
According to the internet; that parking meter joke was written by Simon Evans about MacDonald’s employees. Is it actually just a really old standard?
Doctors get salaries.
They're not paid by the hour.
I did the beer thing.....it was good. They do want you to ring up to cancel though.....which i haven't got around to yet.
Come to Toronto and I'll come to your show
You're such a bad product spokesperson that it comes right around the other side and makes me want the product.

My favourite episodes are the guests I don't know that turn out to be hilarious
This must be the lesser known of the Kay Brothers, (Peter, Phil and Paul) like Gummo or Zeppo.
There's adds on everything, better they are read by Ricard and the money goes into making more content!
I'm fine with it......we forgive you Maggie Thatcher..... Oops too far.
There is NOTHING funnier than the truth - the HARSH horrid truth. Anecodotes are SO 'yesterday'.
I had to check my emails if I had bothered Adam for script editing, I'm clear lads. All good!
well kathy burke was my fave ever until this one. class act.
Fucking hell rich, first 20 mins had me crying both kinds of tears. Why you do this to me also don’t ever stop x
Adam Kay for PM
It's also run badly with too many expensive drugs and managers
PSA: If you are squeamish, as soon as you hear the word "de-gloving", SKIP to 19:45
The degloving story is horrendous
Bailed out shortly after 18:00... don't listen/watch during dinner folks.
Too late. :(
So many propaganda comments from new accounts...'Wow, I must buy his book!'; ludicrous.
I just bought his book and I've had this youtube account for 12 years so there.
De-gloving. I'll never listen to this again.

yeah but surely the fucking staff and students should be able to park for free?

i'm not sure the staff and students have been mentioned so far. i've had free parking at very few of my jobs - how about you?
Don't watch this while eating, it's all so horrible
I had to stop listening this time, something just didn’t sit well with me hearing these awful real life stories being used for jokes.
