The Harrier jump jet, the first jet airliner Comet and the only supersonic airliner Concord. Britain used to be world leaders in aeroplane development. Shame we don't make anything anymore 😕

Because Britain isn't Britain anymore. Walk through London and see who lives there now.

I always thought the harrier was a sub par airframe. Then good old Margaret said “Can you chaps go and take back our islands”.
And it turns out the harrier does exactly what it was designed for, very, very well. The falklands highlighted, you need a quick reaction force with this type of capability.

Only 15 years after this wacky old documentary, we started pumping out the F35B. That thing slaps.

Even if attacking a ship doesnt sink it,makes it bloody hard for the crew to do their job when the deck is turned into a frying pan

Most wonderful documentary coverage video about vertical taking off & landing down ( British designed Harrier aircraft's) shared by excellent (Mike Guardia )channel ...video explained its characteristics
its two versions ( sea Harrier & airforce Harrier) in additional of focusing on its designs historical backgrounds...this excellent aircraft's found in ( Britain 🇬🇧, USA 🇺🇸, Germany 🇩🇪 & Spain 🇪🇸)..Mike Guardia channel always selecting Excellent subjects..

      "Britain 🇬🇧, USA 🇺🇸, Germany 🇩🇪 & Spain 🇪🇸"(sic)
      Italy not Germany.
The Germans participated in the TES but never operated either the Harrier or Harrier II.

VIFFing proved to be not all that useful as you would lose all your forward airspeed.

The Harrier might not have been a "great" aircraft, but I rarely
heard about any of them getting SHOT DOWN or failing to
    complete their missions.
Even the U.S. Marines used them, and the British sure used
them well to kick the CRAP out of argentina during the
    Falklands War.

I was just thinking how through the 70s and 80s, television programs were full of classical music - something we don't get these days.

Why were British pilots so superior to US pilot?
