These two young Japanese guys on a journey were asking people on the main station in Zagreb where the main station is.... because they thought it was a museum they found 😅
Well, true, main station do kinda look like museum:) and trains were from museum, no matter that they are new (not the sleeping coach, its old), but riding 60-80 km per hour (on some parts 120 if i am not mistaken, but Croatian Railways is among slowest in Europe. Heck, even Americans have faster rail then we do have and their trains were among slowest in the world, with exception of Acela trains.
Ivan looked rough in the morning. Took the bus from Dubrovnik to Zagreb which took 8 hours also. I would take the beds over the bus seats. And I hated at the bus terminal getting there BEFORE the CAFE OPENED. COFFEE! And the bus terminal in Zagreb isn't in the best location to go around to find a place for cava or for a milnar. Hope you guys had fun!
It's the same when I was a kid. I enjoyed wandering around and looking at the scenery through the open window, and there was lot of passengers back then. There was a wagon for food and drinks. The children must have expected the same train as in Zagreb, you can see that they were disappointed, but it's good that you can sleep through everything. It always saddens me when I see that they are still postponing the renovation of the Zagreb-Split railway. So few people use it because of this, I don't know if they even have money for maintenance.
Used to travel to Split in a sleeping car in the 80-ies several times. It was always a thrill to hang on the window in the morning, waiting to spot the sea for the first time. The terrain is mostly mountainous, and it would be a really no-sleep experience if the train drove any faster. Travelling by Bombardier swing train is faster but not very pleasant because it was not made for such sharp bends. They would need to build a new track with a lot of overpasses, very expensive and time consuming but there are plans. Of course, there are international signs to indicate a sleeping car, including German, it's no Austro-Hungarian heritage. But yeah the cars are not super modern.
Loved this video so much! It was nice to see the realities of HOW to get around Croatia, in addition to the destinations themselves. Looks like the kids had the most fun, mine sure would! Your kids are adorable, by the way ❤❤❤
The kids are blessed! 🙂 Growing up with two languages, that couldn't be further apart, will bridge and help in the future. Slavic for learning Western Germanic and Roman languages as ofc Slavic ones. English, because it is spoken around the globe.
Wow keen to do this on my next trip hopefully in the next few months ! Svaka vam čast … bivše juge vlak … to se treba promjeniti hitno ! Inače super lijepi pozz iz gold coast australia 😊
Whole ex Yugoslavia need to update train tracks ,trains run at 1/2 speed then in 70s and and 80% off lines are shut down .But it cost a money and politicians dont drive with trains
Our HŽ (railway company) is so siccessful that last year,in one year, our trains managed to be late for 2 years total. I always wonder why people are so autodestructive.
schlafwagen? did i hear right? a relict from the k&k monachie like other german words? how are the train connections in croatia in general? the tram and bus connections in zagreb are ok but for long distance?

Hi there!!! I was actually wondering how your children will be taking English classes in school? Clearly they are fluent, so there must not be a lot of incentive for them to go to English class that is simply too easy for them! Are you going to be enrolling them in a language school for English, so they can learn spelling, reading and more complicated grammar that is more fit to their language level? Awesome video by the way!
They have English at school now, but now it's a bit 'boring' for them 😂, but once they start getting into more grammar and vocab, I think it will be helpful!

I think I would take the train from Zagreb to Split only if I were brain dead. Croatia is one of the prettiest countries in Europe, particularly once you get into Lika and Dalmatia. The only way to see it is during the day while driving. But hey, now we know not to take the train. Thanks Sarah. Nick in Montreal.

nemam pojma...is my favourite Croatian quote. ^^
I’ve also traveled from Zagreb to Split by train. It’s a nice experience for people who live in Croatia.
That was a good idea to travel with the kids on night train to Split. For them it's an adventure and nice memories with family.

Haha yes, it was a rough night for sleep lol. Agreed that being able to lay down was better than sitting up in a seat for 8hrs, though!

Yes, that was the plan, but i doubt that would happen. So if you visit Croatia, avoid trains and use buses:)

the new trains are fine but the railroads are not designed for fast travel

For foreigners from Japan, China, France...: 8,5 hours trip does not mean that our country is bigger than yours but that the trains are terribly slow.
