I've been using KDE for almost 20 years and I've the same theme since the last 8 years. This video was cool and made me upgrade my desktop look after so many years.
The only thing I specifically don't want to blur behind it is Yakuake, often times I want to use the transparency to see content behind it that I might be referring to as I type in the terminal.

just commenting to say i'm actually using the floating panel you worked on. didn't think i'd like it after using a full-wide attached bar my whole life but it's great after some getting used to, i think it'd be hard to go back now.
@Nicco Loves Linux thanks for the floating panel! My only issue with it is that I frequently use apps expanded to full screen and that causes the floating bar to stop floating and fill up the space. Is that a feature or a bug? I'd prefer if it stayed floating even during full screen mode

@@Chriscrusty it doesn't for me . Windows do go below the panel . But if i maximize Firefox for example , panel stops floating and fills all the top space above the application. I'm on the latest kde 5.27 . Endeavour OS
@@Skulka looking through the bug reports i think the way it's working for you is actually intended, at least it was for a while. i'd just stop using the floating panel if it did that for me lol, not sure what mix of settings i'm using that makes it behave this way then. i can see why they'd do it that way, the bar blocks a small part of fullscreen programs but in reality it's not an issue 99% of the time. it still hides for fullscreen videos and games so it's good for me to have the panel showing even when firefox is fullscreen
Dark themes are harder to get looking good, hence more light themes look better, but as @Joe Enderman said, that does not exclude some dark themes looking better than their light counterpart. It's also a preference thing and a matter of getting used to. Generally on an emissive display a dark theme is better, unless the backlight gets overpowered by the surrounding light, in my opinion.
Sweet mars really is a very beautiful theme that's why it is the theme I'm using though I use neon icons (kinda similar to what Garuda linux is using) it looks more fitting to the theme than the default one. Kinda want to rice my plasma setup more but I just find it that it is more pleasing to the eyes if it is simple and lightly riced....
Nico pardon me, but I'm going to ask a very naive question. I love kde's theming but can any of these themes introduce an vulnerability or outright be malware? I get it that they are opensource but are they actually audited and tested? If so what kind? Recently watching John Hammond's CI/CD poisoning & opensource can be affected too. Smaller opensource projects may not have the many eyes needed to weed out the bug like linux kernel or kubernetes. What's your thoughts?
There’s always the possibility of _anything_ you put on your computer being a threat, but in this case the risk is very, very small. If a security vulnerability were found KDE is a large enough project that it will be patched quickly, and there are lots of eyes on it.
I often use as a wallpaper just pictures which I like to look at (and often they aren't actually intended to be wallpapers and as such have big black borders on the side because of it).
That grayscale comment. Mood. I used to have a grayscale mode for Sleep Mode schedule on my phone. Now, I also just live with my addiction 😢. But "light theme is better than dark theme"? What is this malarkey -- that is objectively wrong, you are no longer my favorite Linux content creator after Brodie, friendship ended with Niccolo, now BabyWogue is my second favorite Linux content creator. As for themes, I'm just a WhiteSur-dark-solid / Monterey-dark junkie man, I use exclusively that and only that for the past two, maybe almost three years now. For applets, the combo of psifidotos' window buttons+title+appmenu and hide_titles kwin script for that Unity-like UX is a must, as well as Resource Monitor (fork) which is super useful. For wallpapers, I use Bing Wallpapers through the default Picture of the Day, or I just leave it default (which means it's Monterey-dark's wallpaper).
about Inactive Blur i love the idea, but how do you set up the actual wallpaper when you install this extension? when i install it and select it, the options for setting wallpapers etc are missing. The ones under the select box "Type of wallpaper" . can this be combined with picture of the day? i am using KDE Neon if that matters

I'll stop using dark themes when they will invent darker themes. Plasma loading screen with plexus is just perfect, I just went through customization and I was like ok I can try this global theme or that, but not the loading screen it stays for good, how on earth this is not upstreamed?
The Plasma Tiling needs an auto tiling option. It's better to have autotiling native to the tiling application instead of adding a strange plugin that uses it's own presets.
I know there is square icon packs available but this idea could be develloped : i would realy want all the icons to be square, for the non square one, the system could automaticly add a color square backgroud, like some android phones do
Window decorations in the KDE store bother me - unlike Plasma's default Breeze (or kwin's default Plastik - yes, kwin has its own default decoration and its not Breeze) none of the window decoration themes support different title colors for focused vs. unfocused windows!?! I mean - I can't really say "none" because I haven't tried all of them - but I've tried literally dozens (I have more than 30 still installed) and could find no custom theme with a distinct focused title color. Some have tiny changes, such as more blurry or slightly darker, but nothing that you can take a quick look at your screen and immediately identify the active window. Why?!?!?!
That's just how people design their window decorations these days. There's one based on ancient versions of Google Chrome (Chrome Aurorae) where the active window is identifiable for example. A more annoying limitation stems from the Aurorae engine which nearly all custom decorations use. The limitation being that none of them support color schemes, of course. God help you if you don't like shadows too, because that's hard-coded in the SVG for most of them.

Have an issue with the top panel. It doesn't want to save the hight=20, after reboot system it comes back to 32 Manjaro KDE, unstabile, KDE 5.27.3, Apple-Monterey Global Theme
for me with fedora 39 running on mac m1 in parallels those themes do not work correctly, sometimes only partly installed, the dock missing... or black screen. its really sad, after 10 years i'd think to give KDE another try and its still as instable and buggy as ever. it looks better though. also brave doesnt work on fedora 39 - no matter if kde or gnome, it asks for keyring password all the time , sometimes it gets in a broken state where it doesnt open any urls... or crashes. i cannot believe it, 2023 and linux still cant produce a stable desktop environment. and i really wanted to switch from mac to linux... but i cannot work with these conditions, its for work, the things must work. i cannot tell boss that i cannot participate in meetings right now because my browser is randomly crashing.
Klassy is good, but It was broken since 5.26, and the developer said, "WARNING: KDE Plasma 5.26 introduced a change that induces segfaults. Please do not use Klassy with Plasma 5.26. Klassy development will resume once Plasma developers have resolved their bug." This isn't good.

IIt would be way better you had written the names of your different themes and so on down. Sometimes your pronunciation is hard to understand. Or in general its difficult to understand how to write a name of a theme and so on.

Well, it's called "Header Area", technically, even in KDE. The title bar is only one part of the header area, which also includes toolbars/menubars on the top

At about 13:58 the Dark Shine window decoration looks much better than all the overly abundant flat decorations and has more depth and creativity.

Hi, I tried Sweet Amber but with those colors the LibreOffice applications are unusable. Do you have the same problem?
