    I just signed up for the account and uploaded my demo. But to apply for any job the website is making me purchase the membership. Do I have to purchase the membership for any job or any audition ?

    • @CrownStagVoiceover

      Good morning, you do yes. The “free” profile allows client to find you and privately invite you to audition but to actively audition for the cattle calls then you need a membership.

      To the best of my knowledge, if they message you then you can connect and work but that’s it

      I don’t really audition for North American auditions. I wouldn’t recommend using auto tune or noise reduction because they will effect the natural sound of your voice. The client wants to hear you not the processing

    Thank you for making this video! It's pretty disappointing to learn that they also take a 20% cut of every project and are not transparent about that in any of their promo materials on the website. The annual membership fees seem justifiable enough (though not cheap), but not notifying people before signing up about the 20% feels very shady. It's too bad they don't charge for one or the other. Free membership but we'll take 20%, or an annual fee and you get the full rate.

  • @TheFangirlWatches

    Ahh, that explains a few things, thank you! My free membership was showing 250+ hiring projects, but as soon as I paid for the $500 level membership that number went down to ~40 jobs and I couldn't figure out what happened, or why I was getting next to no job results in my selected areas of animation/video games. I wish the algorithm was better, it keeps showing me offers for jobs that want specific accents that don't match my profile at all (Mid-Western American here being offered jobs that want a Singapore accent!), then the site gives me a really low score for the exact kind of projects that I'm looking for. For the price of admission, the site is extremely frustrating.

    • @CrownStagVoiceover
      @CrownStagVoiceover  3 года назад

      It can be. Makes sure you don’t have English other checked as that may be the source of your other accent requests

    *It is also worth mentioning that 40% of all "jobs" on voices never end up hiring anyone on the site. That's right -- 40% !!!*
    *This is due in part to the fact that the same "job" is often posted on other sites as well, and someone on the other site may get hired instead.*
    *So, if you do 10 auditions per day - keep in mind that 4 of them will not hire ANYONE !!!*
    *As far as them charging 20% on top of the annual fee, they claim that the 20% fee is essentially a financial handling fee for keeping your money safe, so that you don't get ripped off.*

    • @CrownStagVoiceover
      @CrownStagVoiceover  2 года назад

      40 % wow, that’s a lot, if you have anything you can share on where you got that number, please do.

      @@CrownStagVoiceover *I've been on voices since 2017. Back then you could see in your auditions cue how many hired and how many canceled or just let the job sit there with no one being hired for months on end. They have since hidden this feature. Now, the job is automatically marked "Completed" as soon as the posted "Project Deadline" date has expired - regardless of if anyone was actually hired or not.*
      *To answer your question, I arrived at the 40% number based on my own auditions cue prior to them hiding the stats. Secondly, I did confirm this number with the CEO (David) during a live Q&A session. And he gave the same excuse, that many of the jobs are posted on multiple sites, which brings down the hiring success rate.*

    I can understand if I wasn't hired because my audition didn't make the grade, but most of my auditions aren't even listened to. They claim that if your audition didn't get listened to one of the reasons might be because a client might reach a decision before they listen to all the auditions, but they also say there is no need to audition early because the client doesn't see the auditions in the order they are received. If this were the case, more of my later auditions would have been listened to. I suspect they want to keep the clients happy and not so much the talent. At the same time, they don't mind receiving that extra $500 from more talent than will get hired.

    It sounds easy but no no no!!! I went through the hassle and built my own studio which cost me over $400 and I paid the membership for voices which cost me $200 at the time. I was so excited at first, I thought it was going to rain a lot of money, but I was very wrong. After almost a year of submitting over 500 auditions, I only got $250 which means I got my money back plus a little extra money ($50). Now my membership is going to end soon and there's no way in hell I'm going to renew. My point is don't waste your money. It's hard to make money on that damn platform.

    I'm clueless, too. As an American, I thought nation and country were interchangeable. The US is a country made up of states and our pledge of allegiance says we are one "nation"... So the whole several countries, one nation confused me as well. But then again, I guess you don't have "states" over there either. Hmmm...

    Northern Ireland is British (in the sense it is governed as part of the UK) but is not in (Great) Britain. British, yes, Britain, no. It's also Irish.
    Many Britons get this wrong, the inhabitants can't even agree on these either, so no surprise the Americans are completely clueless.
