    I test drove this car when it was new, and I thought the V12 Vantage with a manual was one of the most fun cars ever, and wags its tail just the right amount in the turns :)

    Before clicking this video, I was really nervous about what you were going to say about it - I normally prefer more 'affordable' sportscars than supercars but the V12 Vantage has always been one of those cars that 'spoke' to me the most and wanting to own, ever since Jeremy Clarkson had made that very simple and relatively more serious video about it for TopGear back in 2009. Lamborghini and Ferrari stopped making a v12 car equipped with the manual, making this V12 Vantage one of the last we'll ever see. Thank you for doing this review James. Would be intruiging to find out if you prefer the manual transmission in this V12 Vantage over the 7spd dogleg manual in the V12 Vantage S...

    Please show more shots of the interior and exterior of the car. Close ups especially. I think you have great insights but I struggle to watch any of the videos to the end as I get bored of the boring rotation of "shot of the bonnet", "shot of random street being driven by", "shot of the exhaust". Please just add more cut scenes of shots of the actual car. I feel like you're selling your videos short by not showing more of the cars - car guys are visual people who want to see the car more than anything else. That being said, please keep making the videos I do enjoy them.

    Bought mine in Feb, covered 1000 miles or so - not stalled once in that time, in fact from standstill, i don’t use any throttle at all, just slowly release the clutch and off you go - maybe an issue with the TPS on this car?
    Agree re wheels, shifter knob, sport mode - get a CCCharger key fob to choose loud exhaust mode without going into sport mode.
    Disagree re suspension - even with lightweight buckets, i can cover many miles in comfort. Yes its firm, but never harsh. Its all relative i guess, i moved from a lowered 911 on torsion bars so I’m used to a firmer setup.
    My only complaint is there is little induction noise in the cabin - i was hoping it would be more vocal; exhaust noise is fabulous though, especially with Bamford Rose manifolds and sport cats.
    Thanks for posting the external videos - makes me appreciate what a great noise it makes, even though you don’t get all that inside.

I had unsubscribed because all the negative content (“why this manufacturer is crap” “why this was a big mistake”. “Why McLaren are a bunch of losers” etc)?was depressing me. I have subscribed again and I hope you can stick (for the most part) to this sort of thing. Cheers 🍻.

    I love the V12V. The idea of the biggest engine in the smallest car is fabulous and it makes a glorious noise. The interior isn’t the best though and AM steering wheels are hideous.
    The red car you had your eye on is stunning in that colour.

  • @Britishshooter

    Great car. The 550 is good too, did 112,000 in mine and never had a problem. Only downside was that in Germany I could never get it much above a genuine 180 mph (reading on my GPS) though (with the speedo reading a highly optimistic 200mph BTW, and trust me I know what a real 200 mph feels like and it was nowhere near it) and I could never figure out why. Maybe my sports exhaust robbed it of top end power, still worth it for the glorious noise!

    The Vantage is the best looking car of it's era in my humble opinion- far better than 911, or any Ferrari. Great lines, well proportioned- very beautiful. I'm toying with the idea of selling two classic cars I own to buy a V8 manual. Maintenance costs concern me a little though........

    I think you made the right choice in buying the Ferrari, I see quite a lot of Vantages on the road, mostly V8s, and I've never really thought it that special, but I've always liked the Vanquish, and for far less money a DB9 seems a more practical and elegant car.

    A trick that other vloggers use with the shots of the cars and scene is to use the slow mo mode on the camera. Or film in the highest frame rate possible then make it slow mo in post production. You will have super smooth shots of the details of the car, at the moment they are a bit shaky. Also, try a few colour filters over the raw footage. It will feel much more premium. Have a look at Cars with Luke.

    Just bought a mint, manual,19,000 mile example... What a fabulous car, so much faster than my V8. Suspension is on a different level, carbon ceramic brakes are spectacular and that motor... delicious "Merlin" overtones and bulging torque make it a real hotrod. Add HID headlights, a 700 watt Harmon Cardon stereo and some beautiful 20" DB9GT wheels with PS4Ss = Happy driver... 😊

    I am fortunate enough to have driven this masterpiece for a couple of years. All due respect to Jay emm as it is his job to critique. However it is no understatement to say once you have driven the first 50 yards, you do not care about ANYTHING else apart from making that engine roar like a T-Rex at the slightest touch of the throttle, over , and over, and over again. Almost better than sex.

    Have to disagree. As the owner of a V12 S Roadster (where you can see out better than the coupe) there is no way I'd go to a V8 Vantage. You simply cannot go backwards as the V12 is epic fast and even when puttering around town it sounds amazing! It is up there with the Ferrari and Aventador sound wise.....sounds better than a Pagani or a Keonigsegg or Bugatti (all three dealerships are about one mile from my home). As for the shift knob, it is odd at first but that's the point--it has super character and when you drive it for a few miles you realize it is part of the theater of the V12.

    I must have test driven mine around a month after this video (was it hot that year!); £50k... ah if only. :D
    I'm around 18 months in and I was aiming at a 4.7. I test drove one alongside a 991.1 and an R8 v10 (still on the list) and the Aston was the least capable but the most "special". Revisiting this video, well yes, nothing untrue I guess, but you don't buy these with the intent of pub-talking it up over any other car IMO, That v12 start-up, the shape, the way it devours ground without the engine note changing. It's a truly wonderful thing and the world is so much better for it. I adore it.

    I can tell you why they have dropped in price. In this body style Vantage’s final year they brought back the manual transmission. This killed the 2011’s value because you get a new 2017 with a warranty. Early V12 Vantages dropped about 40 percent making it a great buy if you can afford to maintain it. I agree the V8 is a lot of car for the money but a manual V12 makes it 10 times better and I think we will see appreciation again many years from now when the manual is no longer available

    It would've been nice to see Aston Martin shoehorn the DBS Superleggera's 5.2 V12 into the current 'AMG generation' Vantage - but Aston Martin is in a really tricky situation right now (financially), and as Andy Palmer is no longer working there, we'll probably expect to see much more cost cutting from A.M. which is a shame, because we know that they can make phenomenal pieces of engineering, such as this timeless V12 Vantage shown here.

    But maintenance isn’t cheap it was 3000$ to recently change front brakes at 29,000 KM , and 550.00$ per tire on the rear don’t mind but before you buy 1 maintenance isn’t cheap. Consider 15 liters of synthetic oil Aston Martin recommends Mobil 1 synthetic at 25-30$ per liter 🤔

    Very pretty car still, stunning engine but interior was dated even 10 years ago. I had DB9 with rare manual... loved it. But could not sell it for beans back in 2010 when only 4 years old. 😖 Clutch was hard work with weird bite point but still nicer than the auto system that is “gerky” and slow. Happily stare at one of these all day long however... classic design along lines of later day DB5 . Driving dynamics not as sharp as you’d expect, and correct, the lump of weight in front washes out on tight corners.

    I've often noticed with JayEmm videos, that he often says some odd nonsense interspersed with some useful observations, and no different in this video. To be fair most of what he says is fine, though as an owner of one I think the suspension is very cleverly done. The one line which really grated on me however was that "Sport mode seems to just ruin the throttle response"... err WHAT!?!? He's right that when in normal mode there is an inch of throttle travel that does almost nothing, its a strange feel in fact, but when you switch it to Sport mode that is gone and the throttle is instantly and dramatically tightened up - and very responsive! The car is WAY better in sport mode, a different beast almost. It also gives you the full torque, which it doesn't in normal. Any real driver who feels the difference will instantly much prefer sport mode. I only ever use normal when I'm cruising gently.

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  3 года назад

      I prefer a more TVR-like throttle- responsive but with a long action.

    • @riknroll7071
      @riknroll7071 3 года назад

      @@JayEmmOnCars I happen to have a Tuscan S at my disposal too - I find the V12V in sport mode is more instantaneous in response. The TVR throttle response is more "gradual" if you like the absolutely massive throttle travel which is truly probably the Tuscans only safety feature! :D That takes some getting used to honestly. It sounds to me like you prefer cars with a very gradual/slower throttle response that require a greater degree of "foot movement" - each to their own I guess, for me I adore the instantaneous nature of the V12V in "sport" and prefer the (normal) pedal travel. Of course the Tuscan doesn't have anything like the torque and wants far more revs to really push it along than the V12V too, and so that makes the "noirmal" mode of the Aston feel more similar to the TVR in response/feel.

Jeremy Clarkson was much more correct in that this is close to automotive perfection we won’t see ever again. V12 front engine power attached to a manual gearbox and analog steering fee with stylistic perfection.

    Is the Aston Martin 'powershift' the same powershift thing that's in the Ford's?

    You're videos have massively improved (they weren't rubbish before, mind you). And the Aston gear knob looks like a d*ldo.

    Complaining that you cant see the bonnet enough to place the car is hilarious. When have you ever wanted to see the end of the bonnet when approaching a corner.

    Those end graphics are truly horrid, like they've been nicked from an 80's game show. They're completely at odds with your forensic knowledge of the fabulous cars you showcase.
