Get Extorted or Get Deported: The Haitian Situation in the Dominican Republic

- Hi there, and many thanks for tuning in!
My motivation for making this video stems back to me both observing and frequently hearing about a high amount of human rights abuses going on here in DR towards their neighboring brothers and sisters - in other words, the Haitians.
When foreigners wish to enter this country to reside here, it's fairly clear what they need to do to legalize themselves, after which police and authorities normally respect their status and presence here. Folks can go about their new life without being approached or harassed by police. Yet. this is definitely not the case for Haitians. Firstly it's usually tough for Haitians to legalize themselves, and especially lately with political games and fights played at the Government level, the rules for Haitians to achieve a legal status, seem very difficult and confusing, as the Authorities seem to make new rules as fast as the wind changes direction.
Secondly, all Haitians I talk to seem to confirm that the police and immigration officers don't seem to give a hoot if individuals show them legal documents, instead very quickly the blackmailing starts, pushing "Do you want to avoid being deported? if so pay us X amount of pesos, or we'll boot your ass back to Haiti" - in other words, it's a filthy business based on pure extortion!
During this video, we'll hear from 3 different groups addressing this topic - 1) Haitians, 2) Dominicans, and 3) Expats.

Dear viewers. If we can tell from comments that you didn't even bother to watch more than a snippet of the video, yet you instead write long-winded historic text to justify the "continuation" of the thousands of human rights abuses going on here "daily", then don't be surprised if you get "booted out", as there's no longer room for "egg heads" justifying human cruelty!!
"Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself!" "The truth is a bitch, but it's the last thing standing!"
I have 3 kids and I have paid 150,000 pesos! Almost 3,000 dollars in taxes! My Haitian neighbor have 9 kids and haven't paid a single tax dollar! You and your toxic culture won't stop us from cleaning up the country from this bunch of predator's 🙏🏻🇩🇴🗽👿
Bless you for shedding light on this situation. Many many people fear talking about this. Thanks
Cheers! and thanks for watching. Please share far and wide, thx. Brgds, Mr.T
Thank you for addressing this problem!
You're welcome and thanks for watching! Brgds, Mr.T
As a Dominican patriot you are right Mr. T, The Dominican government is not doing enough to stop the mafias in the armed forces of the country. Specifically at the bother. And i understand it creates bad reputation of the country. Our hope is for Haiti to be stable again but it seems that the international community wants the chaos to continue over there.
Thanks for commenting and for watching! If "legalization" actually meant something, and there was a clear path and price for Haitians to apply and maybe qualify to legalize themselves, then the next step would be for police to respect those who could present such papers/ID. Folks have to be able to feel safe and non harassed when living and working somewhere. Such respect would be healthy in many ways, and would definitely help trade and tourism.
Great video as always
Many thanks for watching!
If you do not have a passport, work permit or any other type of document, you cannot stay in a country that is not your own because you would be breaking the law. Therefore, you cannot demand anything.
But they just demand money and then release them. It's an extortion racket they don't care about deporting them it's all about money.
@Celltech-we6rs You are saying the truth. No Document need to be deported.
Salute to you for having the courage to tell the truth.
Cheers, and thanks for watching! Brgds, Mr.T
Mr T you should move to Haiti to help Haitian there.
:) I could move to the US too and help Haitians there, yet the same answer, no thanks, as I choose to move here where I like most things, and the things I don't like, I do something about them!
In short, I fight for human rights, and here it just so happens to be Haitians who get targeted the most, so I help in the best way I know how too. Often I coach Haitians who are heading back to their country on how to be a better entrepreneur, so if that works for them, then I just helped someone in Haiti without me having to move there :)
What! these things going on in DR? What if we treated them like that when they come to the USA?
@FelixFloruis your joking me right? How many dominican gang bangers do we have in NYC? And yet american opens itself to all people regardless how many trinitarios you send here.In DR they just want to extort money from the hatians.
You got that right Mr T,,,, My hatian girlfriend got stoped going to here Day job at hotel you guessed it shake down ,copd took all here money she had on hand then let her go !!
Yes, real Dick Turpin behavior by the crocked cops! (Law abuse rather than Law enforcement!)
Thanks for watching - please share it, cheers - Brgds, Mr.T
Haiti could end this by simply shutting it's border down no Dominicans in no Haitians out and every Construction project would be shut down. Call their bluff and sacrifice for once
There are so many benefits to be achieved by both nations resolving differences, being respectful and keeping borders and trade open. Also many folks both in Haiti and DR have mixed, so there's family on both sides of the border. Hypocrisy, greed and ego's are some of the biggest blocks to making both sides happy.
@@EducatedTraveler I agree
Haití could end this if haitians stand up for their rights but in Haití no in the Dominican República. You should fight for your country.
Thank you and MUCH respect for making this documentary. The situation looks to have gotten much worse since I was there.
The whole thing makes me sick and can only think if i ever went back i would always have a feeling of being a hypocrite not being able to do anything about it.
Ive seen a few dominicans treat hatians poorly and the hatians without exception always turned the other cheek.
That old saying you mentioned: thats bible. The same bible that is sitting on the only flag in the world- the dominican flag.
Such a loving country, its like you and that wonderful dominican man said: its very disconnected from all the beauty of the country and the people.
I suspect they will let haiti burn, and prefer to opt for mass north american immigration to replace the costly labour of the citizens.
The only thing I can say to everyone is know your enemy. Hatians are not the enemy.
Again job well done Be safe and well :)💐👍🏽
Many thanks for your compliments & comments. The more folks who lift that cell phone up and film the cops in action, the more "finger slapping" there will be from the top down. Take care! Brgds, Mr.T
Is it possible to be a good samaritan and give out your phone number for people to call if they get wrongfully arrested? You could go down to the police and take a bunch of gringo friends and give the police a tongue lashing until they let them go. Or would you need more political and financial clout? Would it be dangerous for you to do that?
Yes
Cops love Gringo's getting involved in these matters, as they see it as an opportunity to milk more money out of the situation. If you wanna help a Haitian friend out of a troublesome situation, then great, yet most importantly is that these situations get filmed and launched online ("The enemy of corruption is exposure of the truth!").
Brgds, Mr.T
Dominican Republic is also making money with Haitian people on both sides of the island 🏝️🏝️🏝️ there crooked this video should be seen very sad situation every country has their problems all over the world 🌍🌍🌍 🌍...
The title is 100% correct. Could not have said it better myself. For a so call "Christian" country, there is nothing Godly about what is happening to their neighbors whom they are supposed to show love to, according to their faith. It's all talk no action. Wonder how Jesus feels about this!
A lot of truth there! Thanks for watching + commenting, cheers! Brgds, Mr.T
😂 we don't give a F*** what you think. 👿🗽🇩🇴🙏🏻
@@FelixFloruisis DR grateful for the united states accepting all your trinitarios gang bangers?
