I have officially entered the "Kinkdom"! It is due to these two comps. Thanks to Mazzy's online introductions. Ray is in the same galaxy as Dylan in my opinion. The way of using words and ideas in a quick and inventive way to create humour. Wisdom which one "gets" as they grow older. The songs (poems) are rediscovered. I stole my brother's cassette of 'One For the Road' in 1981, which soon led to me playing drums. Later realizing it was Dave's guitar playing which really caught me and entered my psyche. Never owned another Kinks album until this year. The love of music is the discovering! New favourite band. Now that I'm gaining wisdom😊
Us Brits have always pronounced Ray & Dave's surname as DAVE-IS, never DAVE-EES. There's no dispute, it's the 🇬🇧 pronunciation. So yeah, Mazzy's right on this one. Also, whenever anybody asks who's best, Beatles or Stones? The answer is always The Kinks. The archetypal 🇬🇧 band.
I’ve read that XTC album art… and connected it with the poster to finish… and LOVED it. So glad Andy and the band went with that great idea! #XTCforever
Hi Mazzy, I am one of the few who read all the cover of my go 2 copy. Thanks for teaching a lesson about the background which I did not know at all. Good to have you around, we would be less educated if you eere not doing these wonderful streams. Cheers from Germany Klaus
Milt Holland's son lives here, great guy, he has a turn table so sensitive it is mounted on solid granite column which goes down 2 floors to the foundation.--love your channel by the way
I've never owned anything by The Kinks and I've always felt I should. Because of this video I ordered both of those Kinks records. And "Universal Motherhood" is beyond brilliant!! So much love for her!!
Early XTC is underrated ..They were a whole different band with Barry Andrews ( Shriekback ) as a member. Would like to see a reissue of the dub album Andy Partridge did " The Lure Of Salvage " which includes an awesome redux of Making Plans For Nigel called " New Broom ".
Simple answer, "we" began buyimg vinyl records a long long time ago, we bought it, we heard it and "we" didn't throw them away...so...we heard them all.
A library....makes sense. Also.....just like a library that you make, you have already read the book as you put them in the library. I personally have never bought an album and not listened to it. I usually buy, it, and then listen to it, and then....put it in the library. For me personally, I limit my "collecting" so it doesn't take over my life!! Its a nice balance that way. You know....rabbit holes can be really deep!! Perfect example of that: I have six versions of Revolver. Something tells me you have over 20?? Yep...that rabbit hole. :)
Hi Mazzy, i've got most of Sinead O'Connor albums, i saw her live twice, universal mother is maybe my favourite, i love Sean nos nua and the lion and the cobra too. I must buy kinks part 1 and 2 too, the kinks are my favourite band with the Beatles
Those Kinks comps look very good. I must admit I usually prefer comps in chronological order. Sinead O’ Connor not only has a great voice but she has some giant feet.
You may say I'm a streamer, but I'm not the only one... Actually, I'm not a streamer, either -- though, in addition to my record library, I have thousands of CDs that I've burned to hard drives so I can "stream" my own library to myself (via Roon on a Mac Mini through ethernet connected to a DAC and into various vintage '60s and '70s hi-fi gear). As for the Kinks: I picked up the first of those new LP anthologies (mostly singles and non-concept-album tracks) and have been really enjoying it, too. It's done what I suspect it was meant to do, prompting me to fall down a Kinks rabbit hole (like Alice) and play "Kink Kontroversy" and "Face to Face" and "Something Else"... Maybe the second volume will get me spinning "Lola vs. the Powerman" and "Arthur" and "Village Green Preservation Society" and "Muswell Hillbillies" and...
The Kinks 1977 album Sleepwalker is arguably their greatest record song for song. XTC really took off when Dave Gregory joined the band. XTC is as good as any band in history
I would get the Kinks comps except....I have all the original LPs, Mono as long as they came that way, then stereo for the remaining Reprise, then SACDs for the RCA years.
Do you own the Kinks Are Village Green Pres Soc 3 lp that includes mono, stereo and out takes? This album could have been a double lp with all the extra tracks. When I listen to it on my iPod, I arrange it as a double
Mazzy, not sure if you’re aware of the Johnny Marr comp on a double cd format in a book style. It has extra songs on it and some demos. I too normally buy the vinyl but decided to go with cd version, it’s very good.
I need to pull all of my Kinks records and play them. Is it possible to have everything they've done and still consider the Beatles, Stones, and Dylan the holy trinity?
I've noticed Brits with the surname Davies pronounce it Davis, including unrelated comedians Alan and Greg Davies. I suspect the name Davies is far more common there and they know how to pronounce it. The change in spelling to Davis may be some Ellis Island immigration error. All speculation as I've not actually looked into it.
On the New Year's 'Hootenany' special of the Jools Holland, when introducing Ray (backed by the excellent house band), the show the host says 'Davis', which surprised me. BTW, both Holland and drummer Gilson Lavis are former members of Squeeze, while the femme singer on our right is Sam Brown. Best known for her 80s hit 'Stop' and singing with Pink Floyd, she is the daughter of British music legend Joe Brown of Joe Brown & the Bruvvers fame. Father and daughter both appear in the 'Concert for George' (Harrison) concert video. Check her doing 'A Horse to Water' - she stole the show. BTW, she has a box set on A&M. Here is Holland...and Davies doing 'You Really Got Me'. ruclips.net/video/pRd0pDQTuNU/видео.html
Taking about bad sounding records. 2019, 2020 Prince series of records, on purple vinyl are really bad. Specifically „Chaos and disorder „. Sounded so bad that I thought, something was wrong with my system. Replace it with a new one. The same. All are pressed at MPO France. The original CD‘s kills this records, which is not often the case. It’s very frustrating, but there is nothing we can do. Thank you for saying the truth, even if it’s not something good 👍
The records reissued via Sony, starting with the Signs box and into the next few releases, including this new one, have sounded fantastic. I recall that five-plus years ago the Purple Rai issue sounded really bad on both LP and the CD was brittle and brick-walled to hell. They've gotten it right in my book.
@@mazzysmusic You are right. Now is much better. 2023 „Come „ and „Diamonds and pearls „ are amazing. Cut by BG and pressed good. But I love „Chaos and disorder „ and other albums of this series. Mostly first time on vinyl. So. There is no other pressings. Hopefully they do it again in the future, but right.
Peter was in TG long before that album cover was made for XTC, just sayin', and on that album, it isn't punk in any way, it is definitely post punk with a touch of the English reggae that was going on at the time.
You're a Screamer...!??? 😲 Oh, Streamer, sorry... I've not really been into the Kinks the over 40 years I've been collecting vinyl, but I DO have Chronicles! And yes! The early Hip Hop was so good, you have so much more rock mixed in (Beastie's first is SO damn amazing with all the Zeppelin samples!) It is SO much better than this super self-conscious mumbling poser crap you hear today. BTW, just tuned in to Rachel's channel for a few minutes about her 'F'n up the Beatles' (couldn't resist that title) and I really liked your little snippet of Woody's 'Wheat' dialog on the absolutely fantastic 'LOVE AND DEATH', one of his most symbolic and funny films (Catholic Bishop: "The secret of happiness is 2-12 year old girls" Too much!)
WTF was Marr thinking about with that album sleeve 👎🏼 .. His last couple of solo albums have been a bit shit tbh. Overblown and distanced from the material he's renowned for.
Just because Ray Davies chooses to pronounce his surname as "Davis" doesn't make it right. In the same way that it will always be the original "See My Friend" without any irritating added 's'. Likewise, I will never refer to Keith Richard in the plural. So don't mess with the art 😠 PS. Shelley loves you . . . . .
I have officially entered the "Kinkdom"! It is due to these two comps. Thanks to Mazzy's online introductions.

Any video that highlights The Kinks, Run DMC, Sinead & XTC is (more than) ok with me. Cheers Mazzy 👍
Great selection of reissues/comps! I love hearing you talk about The Kinks. So passionate about their music… among many other artists… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Bring on volume three ✌🏼🕺💃
Always really interesting. Thank you.
“I must say, I’m no streamer, but I’m not the only one” lol another great video Mazzy

Just bought the two Kinks records. Thanks for the recs!
Thanks for the tip on Metal Theologian ! I know some metal…but this guy is an expert…I love how natural he is..a new fave!
I love how you snuck a John Lennon quote into the video. "I'm not the only one," imagine that!
I've never owned anything by The Kinks and I've always felt I should. Because of this video I ordered both of those Kinks records. And "Universal Motherhood" is beyond brilliant!! So much love for her!!
The Ray Davies' release See My Friends with a host of artists doing their versions of Kinks' songs is a great compilation. Highly recommend it!!
The Kinks love them and Ray Davies solo! Johnny Marr I bought the double cd version loads of extras! XTC never did a bad album! Great video Mazzy
I have read that entire XTC cover too. I love it!
Squaring The Circle !
Some great artists' re-issues mentioned, Mazzy. Great choices! Cheers from Japan, G.
Fab reminder of the Kinks scope and skill. I will be buying Part 2. Also loved your clever Lennon "streamer" reference....
One at a time. That's how. Agreed !!! Kronikles is great album.
You ever hear Sinead do “You Do Something To Me” on the Red + Hot + Blue comp.? Incredible.
Yess!!!!!
I must admit I had no anticipation for the Jellyfish reissues.
God Save The Kinks.................not forgetting XTC!!!
Simple answer, "we" began buyimg vinyl records a long long time ago, we bought it, we heard it and "we" didn't throw them away...so...we heard them all.
Hi Mazzy, Thanks for the Sound of Vinyl tip. Allman Brothers At Fillmore East record was delivered today.
Love that XTC re-issue, might have to go get it. I have an old beat up copy. I need to get the Mummer re-issue with the alt cover too. Cheers Mazzy!
Now I need to buy both kinks albums. And maybe Sinead O’Connor too. Thanks for such great music referrals.
Marr definitely uses the wall of sound approach. I agree that some more subtlety would benefit him.
Saw Sinead on her first tour of the US in SF at the Stone in 88, what a force she was.
I saw what you did there, Mazzy, they say I’m a streamer, but I’m not the only one….😂
😬
Since you love standards, i would recommend Dr.John. in a sentimental mood . Awsome!!
those 2 kinks are tempting. i have my copy of kronicals i got in 76. my true intro to the band.
XTC's Go 2, that troublesome middle brother of White Music and Drums And Wires. Experimental, oblique and jagged but always with a listen.

Mazzy some people are saying the off-gassing of vinyl in our homes is hazardous to our health.
😵💫
The Kinks 1977 album Sleepwalker is arguably their greatest record song for song. XTC really took off when Dave Gregory joined the band. XTC is as good as any band in history
Love the Kinks Arista tears too
Morrisey is nothing if not bombastic.
I bought the Mofi Run DMC and it's excellent! I'm glad Mofi, is thinking outside the box, and reaching out to new listeners.
Totally agree!✌🏼
Kinks are so under rated
I would get the Kinks comps except....I have all the original LPs, Mono as long as they came that way, then stereo for the remaining Reprise, then SACDs for the RCA years.

Ray and Dave singing together is aural gold
Hi Mazzy I dont have any Kinks music. What comp collection on vinyl would you reccomend? I completly trust your opinions. Thanks man. Great video
An OG Kinks Kronicles is good and these two sets are more diverse
What is the Frank Arkwright mastering like on Marr's compilation?
Like the song says, “You may say I’m a streamer, but I’m not the only one.” Dave Davies actually personally told me it’s pronounced “Davis.”
It’s ironic that Robbie Robertson wrote the songs for Scorsese ‘ “Killer of the Flower Moon “ before he passed .
I need to pull all of my Kinks records and play them. Is it possible to have everything they've done and still consider the Beatles, Stones, and Dylan the holy trinity?
Sure ✌🏼

Do you get as many warped records as I do? It's so frustrating. Seems like 1 in 4 are too warped to keep.
Hardly any. One in the last 50 or so.
@@mazzysmusic Do you use a record clamp on your turntable. If so which model?
@@MJP3055 I have a Rega and they suggest not using clamps. So no.
@@mazzysmusic I have a Rega too. Seems to be a problem with Amazon shipments. Maybe a hot warehouse.

In fairness the XTC re-issues have a pretty good sound and the packaging is good too.
Do you actually play any of these?
Music is played in the house all the time.
