I just want to tell you that I am so happy how much you grew as a youtube channel. I remember when you didn’t have this many subscribers and you deserve all of it and more! looking forward to watching more of your future videos.
Many thanks Andy for sharing this technical sound played by Dave Colquhoun who has actually played on stage with Brian May, absolutely amazing for a guy like me learning everything that I can
When I say I want to be able to play like Brian may. What I mean can be summed up in the following way: using the chord building blocks to build melodies into rhythm. Building solos that fit like puzzle pieces into chords, building melodic solos that are almost vocal in their expressiveness and delicate vibratos that are singable.
No it’s not the red special but the way he could run his pickups out of phase and all that contribute a lot to it. The treble booster is a big part of Brian’s sound too but his touch and technique are stellar. I want one of those red specials.
It's amazing how obtainable the tones were out of that rig I really didn't think anyone but Brian May could cop his sound that perfect. It's amazing also how delicate of a touch the right hand has to deliver but nonetheless phenomenal video very detail oriented instrument. I'm a drummer with what I feel is a very good ear as far as interpreting solos and so forth and I would hum them out note by note for guitar players as if it was so easy LOL and just drive them crazy. Phenomenal video.
Wow, I was impressed how the 6 pence made such a difference to the sound, I recently discovered how a plec dulls the sound even compared to a finger nail even though small, music is an art and even the notes played as you have shown vary tremendously according to the string and bends up to a note ect, thank you for the I site into what makes a player so individual and expressive with only 7 notes❤
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you Dave for sharing your amazing insights into Brian (and Freddie's) playing .. it has been incredibly helpful. You remind me of the late Mike Casswell in the level of your professionalism ... again, thank you very much for this video.
Soooooo Suhweeetttah!...Seriously beautiful vibes emanating out of this vid...🙏 100% thank you for your time n energy in allowing us to fly with you this is got to be the Best of the Best tutorials ever top 3 ever...good job keep up the great work! Learning to play like this at this level is what makes it all worth it....Peace n Love seriously xoxo....
@@NarrowboatFirefly Wow; where're you at now? Still getting my basic chords down and learning some basic songs, scales and riffs. RUclips is so inspiring, but also can be distracting! Andy's site is packed to the rafters with so many brilliant lessons and guides; there are just not enough hours in the day!
Andy Chapman getting there, but it’s slow going. Have got to a reasonable extent all the open chores and barre chords etc. Have been to a few jam sessions, scary but once you do it you can see that it’s a lot of fun playing with others. I am starting to wish I had more opportunities to do that, but at the end of the day I only did this for myself. I am left handed and as a teenager I was not allowed to learn to play which has always pissed me off, but then life gets in the way and I never did anything about it until it stopped working and had some time to myself.
Great to see what dedicated transcribing results in 👌 this is exactly why kids shouldn't rely on tabs and instead go with their ears and experimentation + creativity etc Excellent vid cheers guys - very inspirational 💪
Amazing vid!! Thank you so much! I’m surprised it doesn’t have more likes! I’d give 100 if I could. It’ll be a long while before I can play lead guitar as advanced as this but I’m watching this for some inspo, especially on the vibrato cause I can try and apply that to more basic solos. Currently learning triads and arpeggios up the neck so hopefully I’ll get there (or halfway there anyway) one day! Patience is a virtue though of course. I sing and play piano and write my own songs and used to think I wouldn’t bother learning lead cause in a band set up I’d be playing other instruments and singing, and in a studio I can get a session musician, but lockdown has made me realise how great it is to be self sufficient!! Can’t wait to write, play and record my own solos! And Queen has always been a massive inspiration of mine ❤️🤟May as well aim high right? That’s fascinating about the penny! I’d be paranoid about scratching the guitar by accident tho! I guess you gotta just be careful? Or is there a way to make that less likely? Anyhow so heartwarming and inspiring to see you both jamming together like that too! I’m subscribing!!
Hi Andy, as a beginner (on electric) it would be really helpful if before starting a lesson you could let us newbies know what settings you are using on guitar and amp. Especially if you’re trying to emulate certain artists. The amp particularly is alien to me, so many different settings, so if you wanted to get close in tone to say, Santana or Clapton etc a little guidance would be really useful. HELP
Great, so it is possible to sound like Brian on a run-of-the-mill electric guitar like the Gibsons the two of you were playing, and that is awesome. Here’s a real humdinger: what if you’re not trying to sound like him but do you want the Red Special for the pallet of tones that you can get out of it between the pickup selectors, the phase cancellation, that frictionless vibrato system and the semihollow cavities? I’m asking that question in the aftermath of having seen dozens of videos featuring people who got it only because they wanted to sound like Brian when they played Queen, not because they wanted to sound like themselves and play other music.
Wow so weird seeing Dave on here he was my guitar teacher at school, tbh not sure I rate him as a teacher but some of that was on me I really struggled when I was starting out and felt like he just gave up trying. But no hate here he's a really nice lad and an incredibly talented guitarist glad things are going well for him. Wonder if he's still teaching at (not sure I should say the schools name) but the posh school in South London
Here's a simple trick if you're like me and have a vox ac30 with a treble booster and a phaser with a little bit of the way it'll help you along the way
@Andy Guitar, great video, just dude please don't play while the guy is playing.. i know you were trying to follow, but as a listener.. was not that great really.

What a fabulous coaching session and a really informative interview from two great guys! Thanks so much.

Love that blue Gibson
Not red, but it’s special

Wow Andy, the tone Dave is getting out of that LP is awesome. 🤪😛👍
Further proof that tone is from the fingers! Though the LP, Victory sherrif 22 and a treble booster is one hell of a rig! 🎸
That’s crazy you know him! Love the videos of always!
What a treat of a video ! Thx Andy
As a guitar student and someone who is looking forward to have career in astrophysics I really look you to Brian may

0:04 can pls someone tell me how to do that "roar" sound like brian may?
I think its called Raking technique
With an Vox AC 30, a range Master Treble booster , and a six pence

Thank you for this. Definitely going to try this on my telecaster.
Freddie would be pleased with this and so will Brian May if he’s watching this right now
Fabulous video. So much too learn! Great to see 'proper' money again - still miss £.s.d. 🎸🎸
OMG - that was utterly majestic! Just taken up playing at 57 - I need a frigging time machine!
Andy Chapman me too I would like the time machine, I m 42 and I ve started 2month ago to learn guitar and I m so happy
I started at 57, four years ago! Having lots of fun.

Fabulous and very informative video. I have a question, does Brian May tunes to E flat?
12:37
Andy: ...am
Dave: UIUIUIZZZJJJJBBBWWIWIWIWUWUW
Dave’s vibrato is incredible. I could practice the rest of my life and not get it to sound like that

Pick or coin ?
You know "Freddie" is written with a final IE not a Y, right?... 🙄
🤣I thought that as soon as I saw that!
:o
Sounds like the SG is outta tune
I shid my pant

Dreadful!! Make it stop
First, take a fireplace and make a guitar out of it.
Where is the fucking sound
Awesome!
