To remove some confusion, the big point generator things are called monuments, and temples are the basic red tiles that leaders go next too.
Tom called them both temples a few times at least.
And like someone said - Mayfair 2nd edition had everything that this one had, except it was all wooden.. well, the second side of the board wasn't wooden, but you know what I mean.

Tom Vasel Great review - appreciate the nuance - I like how you separate your thoughts on the sheer brilliance of the design with your fluctuating enjoyment of it. Just wanted to make a few points. The double sided board, the 4 civilization buildings and the ziggurat (wonder of the world) are NOT new with this FFG version - they've been in the Mayfair version since at least 2008. Also, in reference to a comment you made during a recent podcast how games aren't works of art, normally I'd agree with you, but in this case, I have to make an exception. This game to me occupies the same space in my brain as great works of literature, music and sculpture.

One of my favorite games of all time, it's pretty abstract and not for everyone as it can be pretty vicious once wars start happening every other turn.
We always tweak the rules slightly so when players are wagering tiles in a war they both do so "blind" with a simultaneous reveal. This forces the defender to risk his tiles where as normally he can know for a fact wether he can win or lose a conflict after seeing the attackers wager. In our opinion it speeds up the game a bit.

Love this game. I agree about the wooden bits, but I will still recommend this edition to those who don't have it in their collection yet!

All of the expansion content and variants were already in the latest Mayfair edition.

Love this game. Love the high skillcap, the interaction, the building. Top 10 game for me.

For anybody that has ever said anything negative about Tom, look at his face in this video. This is a reviewer who still does his job despite a swollen face that looks fairly uncomfortable. That's dedication.

Love this game! For those who wish they could still buy the Mayfair edition, check out the Devir edition.
Tom, what is the title of the song used in the soundtrack for a few seconds starting at 1:05?

Hi Tom, I was wondering whether you could do a review of the card game version of Tigris & Euphrates. It is called "Euphrates & Tigris: Contest of Kings". Thanks!

Tom, could not agree with you more on this game.
Components: no need for detailed plastic here, so wood is much better. Hmmm, 2 boards? Thought the 2 rivers met only once?
Love & hate: great game with many options to win on the board. Hate however that a friend ALWAYS wins when we play it, just because he does have luck with the tiles at the right time.
Check out the app for this game btw: great to play solo and get familiar with different tactics; it also helps to see quickly different options which speed up playing the actual boardgame with friends.

Love This Game! It is among my TOP 10! But again it is not a game I can enjoy playing it with many!

You know it's good when some people hates it others love it :-)
With "open points" it beccomes a kill the leader= long arguments and making the playtimes x2. As it is you can be no big threat and slowly build up and win by a sneaky stab :-)

I don't remember the great works and wonder of the world tile. Are they new additions to the Fantasy Flight version?

Amazing game but this edition like Condotierre from FFG is simply horrid.

Looks too puzzle-y and AP-inducing for my tastes.

Oof. The plastic pieces really look like butt compared to the wooden ones.
