It was so important to my grandmother that raised me in her old age, to buy me a Beleek tea set for a wedding gift when I was just a child as a future wedding gift from her home. I treasure it.

This is what I call a proper TV show.. thank you for putting the time in to share it. I think its a real shame, infact a crime that traditional ways of life and culture are being lost for ever due to modern fast paced trends, fashions and waste based consumerism that we live under today. All the years of learning and passing down the skillful handy work.. just flushed down the drain and forgotten. If there was ever a Nuclear war or a similar catastrophe, all the skills that are shown in this Hands TV series would be a godsend to survivors.. But not many folk wold be able to adapt to the traditional skills which might cause blisters and backace.. So until that time comes, we will carry on allowing machines robots and artificial intelligence do all the work to make our lives easier.. and lead us into a future which is less wholesome, happy and without a sense of pride and acheivement that these folk must have felt while they lived their simple lives.

Yeah modern health and safety would have a brain aneurysm watching this. Can't blame them though, I've seen a person pulled through a 6 inch gap by a drill....
They did that for the filming, as it was such a big thing those days and people were brought up to dress up as a way of showing respect. On the normal day they'd protect their home clothing as much as possible, long aprons and sleeve protectors were worn to cover even old pair of trousers and a worn out wooly . ☺️
Anyone who revived this style of programming could reap a fortune. It’s the perfect antidote to covid and division. The world would be a better place if we all worked at looms, where there’s too much noise for talking and you just have to settle for step dancing instead.
Handweaving is not as noisy, close to silent, but when weaving a complex pattern unless using a dobby loom, one is counting the whole while. Very satisfying and rewarding.
Seeing these men work makes me realize my own uselessness...it's art, it's skill, it's discipline, it's perseverance, it's dedication...it's truly amazing....
I just was amazed of the wonderful workmanship that it takes to get one of these beautiful items done. I've done some greenware,so I really appreciate the talent that goes into this. Thanks for sharing.
This is wonderful! My cousin gave me a little Belleek dog when I came to visit her in the 80's. My mom had a beautiful little basket that she'd given her mother many decades before. It's now mine. So beautiful!
