The thing Simon mentioned about the nerves burning off actually makes me feel a lot better about people who have burned alive, it's always seemed like one of the worst ways to go cause it would be incredibly painful the entire time you're dying
After 2nd degree burns, the nerve endings have been singed off. 90% of my G-Ma's body had 3rd degree burns after a house fire. She lived another 10+ yrs, but said the nerves that grew & healed hurt constantly. I wouldn't wish fire 🔥 on anyone!!!!
2nd degree burns are the painful ones. They surround 3rd degree burns, or at least they did for me. 17 years, and I still can't feel a good chunk of my left foot, but at least that part of the burn didn't hurt! Made for some epic pictures though. I pull them out when I don't like someone 😂
You would die long before enough nerves burn off to remove the pain of the flames though. I dont know if thats better or worse. Kudos to the entire crew for your great work. I must say that there were times when I thought I was talking to my 80 year old mother: remarkable stories, but you have to endure the tangential journeys into her own, non-connected memories. It also worked well as an advertisement for the Lopez case.
Eastern European dentistry is legendary. My grandmother got a set of dentures from Hungary in the late 80s and American dentists to this day are still blown away by them.
Simon, I've had 2nd degree burns twice in my life. The most superficial nerve fibers die off and really, its not all that painful for about an hour. The second time, i knew what was going to happen, so i organized getting myself to the ER before the deeper damage started to hurt. During the first incident, another woman had first degree burns, and she was screaming- i actually got help for her, sending her to the hospital and refusing to go myself because i hadnt yet really realized i was that badly burned. So a person with burns may be quite functional for awhile.
I have received a great deal of reconstructive dentistry over the years and the material used depends mostly on the procedure and the area. Most fillings now use a type of plastic that is cured by UV light and was originally developed by NASA. Crowns for root canals, however, are usually made of a special gold alloy and then capped off with a white ceramic. They also use the same alloy when rebuilding teeth for, say, a lion. Basically if it involves the root of the tooth then they use that gold alloy. The reason for this is that it expands and contracts at a similar rate as teeth do when exposed to hot or cold. If it didn't, you'd regularly be in pain whenever you ate basically anything
Great work, I'd not heard of this monster before, and he still managed to catch me out on the level of evil! I'm going to recommend Béla Kiss as a future story, although it might be too disturbed and depressing for Simon!
You know Pedro Lopez's story has scarred Simon so much he's *begging* when he ask "I hope she (Dana) is alive at the end" David really etched his legacy on this show, no cap.
I don't know whether it's filters or lighting but I think the balance is great for this channel. But darker, higher contrast between light and dark areas on the screen
I don't know, I actually find it a rather comforting thought to know that if you do come into the terrible situation of burning alive, you won't feel it the entire time. I'd rather stop feeling things like that than being basically tortured until I go out.
As soon as Simon said he randomly thinks about a fact about burning to death, I muted it. Sir I have enough random moments of darkly clarifying thoughts!
If you're ever interested in covering another Czech case, might I suggest doing the murders that preceded the Hilsner Affair? There is plenty of police incompetence, bias and antisemitism, so much that T.G. Masaryk himself (before becoming the president, but still) got involved.
I have watched/listened to every casual criminalist produced by Simon, the one time i cringed was the hello kitty skull moment . That still crosses my mind from time to time
In 2015, the Czechs drank about 142.4 liters (37.6 gallons) of beer per person... # 1 country per capita, China is #1 per country, because they have so many people, of course.
I had an ‘uncle’ when I was little. When I learned about family relationships I asked him, “Are you my mother’s brother or my father’s brother? “ He said, “Neither.” Being very literal I never called him uncle again though he remained a close family friend until his death at a good old age.
I had one of those. He and my mother had an affair and she was going to leave my dad for the fuckhead. I told her I would not be leaving dad, she was the cheater, and I got managed to get her to stay. But the damage was done, I became a drug addict, and though it wasn’t what made me turn to drugs, it probably didn’t help. Anyway I am on the methadone program and I no longer use illegal drugs.
The 'Uncle' and 'Auntie' thing is common in black communities, at least while I was growing up... where long time family friends are given that title by the younger kids.
Here in Czechia (yes, we actually use that - it's simply shorter) it was common for little children to call all close family friends and not-so-close family members "uncle" or "aunt". It¨s somewhat rarer now, but still in use. It's easier than to remember that a guy is your-mothers-cousins-oldest-daughter-boyfriend or something.
@@kerrynicholls6683 hey, I’m also in a methadone program. Been in one for several years now, 5 ish I think, and I’m in the process of tapering off now. I wish you the best of luck. Put your mind to it, and eventually you’ll stop thinking about all those things, life will get easier, and you’ll be able to comfortably get off when you’re ready.
Yes, Simon, they still use gold sometimes. I have two gold inlays in my upper teeth near the front and I LOVE them. This was in Korea that I had them done, and the Korean dentist was like "are you sure? The gold is going to be visible when you smile" (note: Korea still places a very big value on "perfect aesthetic" so having perfect teeth is very desirable. She was more in favor of giving me porcelain coated noble metal inlay). I told her, essentially, "hell yes, I want gold teeth! Gimme!" I adore them, they give my smile such a unique look and I love showing kids my gold teeth. They are obsessed. I call them my "jewelry teeth".
@@dillongage it will deform if I bite too hard, yes. That is considered a good thing. If it's harder than my teeth, I could crack the adjoining tooth from biting too hard. A soft metal like gold would deform, and yes, I'd have to have the inlay adjusted, but that's a simple process and is not permanent. Cracking a tooth however? Depending on the damage, it would be just a filling, or it could be a complete removal of the tooth.

Basically if it involves the root of the tooth then they use that gold alloy. The reason for this is that it expands and contracts at a similar rate as teeth do when exposed to hot or cold. If it didn't, you'd regularly be in pain whenever you ate basically anything
Saw someone mention this the other week, but I'd love to see an episode on Alison Botha. She's an absolute legend!!
Oh thank you ever so much for the information on burning to death. So glad knowing that will be bouncing around my mind forever.
Great work, I'd not heard of this monster before, and he still managed to catch me out on the level of evil!
I'm going to recommend Béla Kiss as a future story, although it might be too disturbed and depressing for Simon!
So glad for the bit of a happy ending!!
Jen, could we have an episode with all Mitchell and Webb memes?
Thank You for the video! I love listening to you!
Simon Busy? Well He Definitely Keeps Us Busy! Thank You For You!
Nice to see this one a little shorter. Been hard to follow the longer ones recently. That being said, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the fire Simon 🔥
Love the purple lighting in today’s episode! :)
Even if it's horrifying, going through it with Simon helps make it a bit more bearable, cheers Simon
thank you arnold and jen..
i dont recall Simon ever made a tangent on how he ended up in Prague
Thank you for the two videos a week so cool
Awesome! The Office is my favorite show!!! So happy to hear you like it, Simon!
You know Pedro Lopez's story has scarred Simon so much he's *begging* when he ask "I hope she (Dana) is alive at the end"
David really etched his legacy on this show, no cap.
I mean, what other choice did he have? He was the OG writer for Simons casual style of channels. He had to reassert his dominance.
Great postSimon as usual.
I don't know whether it's filters or lighting but I think the balance is great for this channel. But darker, higher contrast between light and dark areas on the screen
Amazing that the poor child was rescued! I hope she actually had a relatively normal life
Woah I started watching this the minute it was uploaded, but I'm at work so I've had to pause it a lot
I don't know, I actually find it a rather comforting thought to know that if you do come into the terrible situation of burning alive, you won't feel it the entire time. I'd rather stop feeling things like that than being basically tortured until I go out.
This is one of the most well written episodes in my opinion.
As soon as Simon said he randomly thinks about a fact about burning to death, I muted it. Sir I have enough random moments of darkly clarifying thoughts!
Nice job on the script, Arnaldo.
If you're ever interested in covering another Czech case, might I suggest doing the murders that preceded the Hilsner Affair? There is plenty of police incompetence, bias and antisemitism, so much that T.G. Masaryk himself (before becoming the president, but still) got involved.
Great choice, but more for Decoding the Unknown or something. Too much politics for CC.
I have watched/listened to every casual criminalist produced by Simon, the one time i cringed was the hello kitty skull moment . That still crosses my mind from time to time
Me too. It's like a scab in my brain.
Fantastic host
Damn I'm glad Dana made it it's rare but a good way to start my morning!
Haha your side stories really bring this show together. Never stop doing you, fact boy.
The Children of Thunder might be a good episode. The story is a good mix of crime and just dumb criminals
I have no idea what 'the children of thunder' are, but it sounds like a kick-ass band name.
In 2015, the Czechs drank about 142.4 liters (37.6 gallons) of beer per person... # 1 country per capita, China is #1 per country, because they have so many people, of course.
"Escape of the Balleys" - new best transition moment 😄
Please do a CC on Howard Unruh and his "walk of death"
When Simon was talking about what ed Gein kept in the box I was reminded of Brad Pitt from Seven "What's in the Box, what's in the Box?!"
That set on fire, fact gives a new meaning to the "its fine" dog fire meme. ❤️
I thought Simon might cry when we found out Dana was alive. Good stuff. 😊
Yay more casual criminalist! Now I can finish the last two hours of work without crying due to boredom!
One hour to go. Hang in there!
Haha thanks! I did make it ;)
Thank you ,
5 stars from me .
🐺
Oh, Simon, such heartbreak. :: hugs ::
Length of time we get wandering around in Simon’s brain: 14:01
Some watch for Simon...and he's important....but I watch for the production work of Jenn! She makes it worth watching instead of just podcast
Please go back to the cases we haven't seen hashed out a million times already!!!
9:50 did Jen bleep out Simon saying the word “suck” as in “this would suck”? 😂😂
Not sure how I missed this episode. Nice bonus in February 23
The sandpit is such a great life hack for parents.
Im sick AF this will be good to listen to ♡
Get well soon!
Good video 👍
Is gold not a bad choice? Id imagine its too soft. If you bite hard enougj you would deform it.
Unless its some type of gold alloy?
@@dillongage it will deform if I bite too hard, yes. That is considered a good thing. If it's harder than my teeth, I could crack the adjoining tooth from biting too hard. A soft metal like gold would deform, and yes, I'd have to have the inlay adjusted, but that's a simple process and is not permanent. Cracking a tooth however? Depending on the damage, it would be just a filling, or it could be a complete removal of the tooth.
