- My Delonghi Perfecta coffee machine wouldn't clear the "Empty Grounds Container" message even when I'd done the emptying. I decided to find the switch and see if there was something wrong.
Just did a search for the empty grounds container problem I'm having and your video saved me from tossing my Gran Dama. Thank you very much for saving my Espresso machine.
Just had the same error (different model but exactly the same design for the switch), followed your instructions and it's back working again. Many thanks.
Your video was very helpful for me to service my 10 years old magnifica, Thank you very for your effort.
Hey there, do you happen to have an advice on what to do with a Magnifica S with the same problem? The light is just steadily on and i don't know if there is a way to open the machine up like you did, because it's being 'used' by my parrents who live in a different city.
I believe all these Delonghi units work the same way so it is likely the same kind of switch but I don't know where it is on the Magnifica S. The exploded parts diagram for that unit is not very helpful. I occasionally have access to a Magnifica S so I'll take a look next time I see it.
I looked at a Magnifica S and it appears to use the same scheme: on the back of the grounds-puck container there is a spur that oddly sticks out about 2-3cm from the back. This will then slide under a switch toward the back of the unit. Thus, only when the puck container is inserted is the switch closed. However, I've found on my other Delonghi that the switch can get fouled and need to be cleaned and even lightly lubricated. I haven't opened the S unit but for my Perfecta, I needed to take the bottom plate off to access this switch. I do see a few screws on the bottom of the S unit so I suspect that it is removed the same way.
Thanx! I pressed it all a bit harder (after seeing your video). And it turned off! Thank you!
Thank you. You just saved me a biannual 100.00 dollar charge to fix this problem. I always checked the sensor on top but never checked here.
Thank you daddy
Easy when you know how - I operated the switch with a flat blade screwdriver "persuading" it to operate again and its fine again now. My Perfecto Cappuccino had been out of service for 6 months when I replaced the main circuit board and Generator (boiler) so imagine my disappointment when this happened - however alls well again (for now). I love fixing Italian cars too and I can see the connection.
Mine is stuck like this... what caused your issue ??? When I put stick in it doesn’t change. I emptied beans and dirty water may have gotten into that hole???
Not entirely sure but as I noted in the video, I suspect the switch was just misaligned and getting stuck. If you haven't done it, I'd suggest pulling out the switch as I did in the video and checking it. Since I did that, I haven't had a problem.
Thank you for your video,I clicked the micro switch a few times and am now getting grounds full message so assume the switch was a bit stuck, slightly annoying as ordered set of security bits to get the base off but no doubt they will come in handy
Grat video! You help a lot. But can you please help me with my problem? My machine don't shows me when the container is full. Inside the machine is full with grounds but no message show's. I have searched the internet but i didn't found everything..
Hmm, so you never see the "empty grounds container" message? I've never seen a problem where the machine failed to display that message. My assumption has always been that the machine simply displays the "empty" message after it dispenses a certain number of coffees. In that case, it would be difficult to think of it losing track assuming it is still correctly making coffee. It's difficult to even think of an experiment to try. I think I'd simply make a routine of dumping the grounds container every morning (along with refilling water and beans)! Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hello, I have a fill tank message a the time, despite it being full. Can you help ?
I had a similar problem long ago with a different DeLonghi machine. As I recall, the problem was with the float sensor. I'm not sure, but I believe this is the sensor:
www.ereplacementparts.com/sensor-p-695102.html
However, you should check the float inside the water tank first to make sure it can move. On mine, it is a black block toward the back of the tank. It should be able to move a bit up and down as the water rise above perhaps 2" in the tank. If the float is stuck in the low position, the sensor will think the tank is empty.
I bought a new tank online through Amazon. Works fine now. About $18 bucks a tank. Bought two.
Very helpful.. thanks very much!
life saver!
Thank you
