A version of Big Bill Broonzy's "The Glory of Love" filtered through Blind Blake and Rev. Gary Davis, played in the key of C and taught by Stefan Grossman. From the DVD "Fingerpicking Blues Guitar Solos." More info at stefan-grossma...
I remember having 12 inch vinyl albums with tablature books by this wonderful guirarist. I couldn't follow the tabs, but i learned to listen to his playing and work out my way of playing. I met Stefan at a folk club / live music pub in Sheffield in the late 1970's. He was the live act that night and at the bar i asked him if he was planning to play a particular tune i had struggled with. He said no, but took me to a quiet corner of the pub and showed me the parts i had not been able to work out.
He is a generous man with time to pass on his genuine passion for music. I will never forget that night. Thank you so much
Thanks Stefan wonderfully taught! (Remember you from The Even Dozen Jug Band) ! Rod in London
Stefan grossman is one of these teachers you find yourself coming back to over and over again on your guitar learning journey ! Cheers for all the homework over the years and heres to much and many more ! 🍻
You are a superlative player and guitar teacher, Stefan! Thank you!!
Stefan you are one of the most amazing guitar players on the planet ! Thank you for your beautiful music !
A joy and a privilege to learn from the master as if he's right here! A great tutorial. Thank you.
Ok, Mr. Grossman. I'm hooked. I'm not leaving this house until I can play this.
Thanks Stefan!
Wonderful tutorial Stephan, I love the way you role this all up which you could easily cross-over from blues into a country swing rendition of a timeless classic song. Many Thanks Barnsley Paul
Stefan, I own your DVD and it is so nice to see this on You Tube. You are helping me so much through your wonderful style and teaching. Keep up the good work!
Stefan's instructional DVD's are challenging me more to practice than I've practiced in many years. He is a great instructor
An awesome teacher and guitar player , a pleasure to watch and listen to you .
Nicely done Stefan. 🎶👍
Thank you.
Great to see you play this!
I love you Stefan. I will buy some of your books and DVD's. You are a great teacher and this kind of playing is damn fun.
Beautiful , Thankyou Stefan.
learning this piece at this very moment thank you very much :)))
Awesome Stefan!
Very nice. I'd like to see a version also that includes some of the other fills, turnarounds and single note solos that Big Bill did.
Listen to Gerry Lockrans version on UTUBE.
Swing that thing! Thanks for posting.
Bravissimo !!!
Fantastic lesson . . . I wish you would sing more - lovely gravelly voice!
Stefan, I've been buying your lessons on tape/DVD for 20 years-thank you so much for making the music I love so accessible to learn in these excellent lessons. It's great to see them on youtube. Is that guitar a mahogany/spruce combination-sounds beautiful.
listen Gerry Lockrans version for some top class guitar picking
Humans can behave reprehensibly, but if there's trouble later at the pearly gates, we can claim to have devised the guitar, and supported some representatives who know what to do with it.
who won't like this
So suh---weet.
Does anyone know which string gauge does Stefan Grossman use?
In his RagtimeGuitar Book (Mel Bay) he says he uses D'Addario bronze lights gauge (not phosphor), but that was a long time ago. (He looks much younger on the photos...)
Try to look at his forum (The Woodshed). Stefan has answered this question numerous times there.
Davy Graham needs to reincarnate. I've heard his playing was indiscernable from Mr. Broonzy's
can anyone find stefan's version on the net in tab? broonzy's version is good, but i like this better.
Both are great.
great teaching, but listen to the mans (big bill broonzy) version for the real nerve!!
Bills version is the original, but Stef does a great job of interpreting. Pick up a guitar and give this a try. Hard to match play let alone match Bill...Interpretation makes music interesting.
