The only other human that Ainz respected. And these mofos took away Ainz's enjoyment of fighting the Prince's desperate attempt at survival. Ainz is genuinely pissed at those nobles for robbing him of an honorable fight.
I thought I read somewhere that he was considering sparing them as he respected the Prince. That he found the Prince so respectable that he wanted to keep him around and was actually trying to think of a way to do so but also not look weak.
Hot tip: When swearing your eternal undying loyalty to a monarch, do not do so using the head of the last monarch to whom you've sworn your undying loyalty.
Fun fact, The Prince Zanac is the only human who got a proper burial, remember they don't like to waste anything. Also, Prince Zanac is the second character to touch Albedo's chest.....yes he was a head but still....
Neuronist was shown in the episode where the workers invaded Nazarick. Neuronist is the chief interrogator/torturer and was going to use the spikey probe on that worker's "urination hole". So yeah, Ainz is really mad at those nobles.
You could tell how pissed off Ainz was at these nobles taking away the honorable desperate battle for survival with the Prince. Sending them and their families to Neuronist is probably the worst fate possible in the setting
@@wellhiyadude1 Yep, oh to be sure there's tons of fates in that place that rank high on the "worse than death" scale. But being sent to the Neuronist ALONG WITH YOUR FAMILY with explicit orders for it NOT to kill any of you unless you beg for death? Lets just say even the people being repeatedly eaten alive by the bug swarm, healed and eaten again over and over a thousand tiny bites at a time would consider themselves fortunate in comparison.
"He was not fit to rule after all. He did not have his father’s virtue, his brother’s charisma, or his sister’s intellect. He had nothing at all, but that was fine. He did not want to be king anyways, he merely wanted this Kingdom to be functional. That was right. To give unto this country, its people, and his family: Happiness. That was all." That was the exact quote from the novel. Honestly, it breaks my heart seeing that all along Zanac never actually wanted to become king in the first place. He only ever wanted to do what was right and to make his country a better place and that Ainz saying "Happiness" was the last thought he ever had. Just like how Zanac left a strong impression on Ainz for being the embolden of what royaly looks like, Ainz left just as strong of an impression on Zanac for how shockingly human this undead king turned out to be. Dude truly was the king they needed but did not deserve.
no, it was difficult for him to become king, because he is not the first prince. his oldest stupid brother would be the king, and zanac still can not make the country become better. this is a sad thing about fate @@Anthyrion
@@Anthyrion No the kingdom was in such a piss poor state it was kinda beyond salvation hence why the Theocracy had been planning to have the Empire take it over.
@@Anthyrion the kingdom was probably already doomed with or without ainz. foolish king let the kingdom get so corrupt nothing functions anymore, crime and slavery everywhere. the crown prince is an even bigger fool and zanac can't do anything as the nobles are corrupt and won't support him to be king instead of his brother. and the theocracy was planning on destroying it too. Gazef would have died without ainz too. the kingdom's fate was sealed
@@jaredhipfnner1262 plus Zanac wouldn't even get the crown. His stupid brother would be the next king who already takes money from nobles. The Kingdom would've been doomed regardless
The funny thing is that the anime omits that they destroyed several cities just by throwing those horses from the sky, although one time one got stuck in a building and couldn't do anything, poor horse...😢
37:10 "Ainz is angry." Right. He had respect for the prince, and these nobles just stomped on this respect. They've forfeited the easy death they were about to get. Good job for him staying cool (no emotion suppressor here) while he casually sent them to Neuronist.
Ainz's response of "Happiness" to Zanac was so significant and meant so much more than the anime had presented it and it added to why Ainz was so irritated when Zanac was betrayed. See when he said happiness it was accompanied with Ainz's thoughts that the longer he stays in this world the more he's realizing his friends are gone and that he'll never see them again which is very lonely for him and now his only goal is to create happiness with the NPC's who he sees as the children of his dear friends and the last thing they left behind. To Ainz, Nazarick is everything and to sacrifice everyone and everything to make them happy is how he's trying to create some semblance of happiness that he hasn't been able to grasp. So "Happiness" was such a meaningful response more than the anime could've expressed. That was the first time since Overlord started that he openly dropped his act of being the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown but instead spoke to him as a normal person being truthful to his feelings as it's stated that he dropped his guard and spoke to him as he would speak to one of his friends. This was so important because this is the most truthful he's ever been since Overlord started because this is not an answer he could give any of the NPC's who he treasures so dearly because it doesn't add up to that 1000 year plan they think he has. So his reply of "Happiness" is possibly the most impact full thing Ainz has ever told anyone in Overlord which only added to why Ainz was so mad when Zanac was betrayed.
not mad enough to bring him back it seems. and besides, if you have alternatives, nothing tells you you have t oharm others to achive your happiness. he was and is still, too close minded.
@@doublehit9165 There was no point in bringing him back though because he intended to kill Zanac anyways just give him a painless death. What was Ainz suppose to revive him just to kill him again with instant death magic? Plus Zanac wouldn't want to be brought back knowing his country had fallen and it was his own people who murdered him. At least Ainz gave him a proper burial. He could've just turned him into a death knight if he didn't care
That talk between Ainz and Zanac is one of my most favorite moments of whole Overlord. It is rare for someone to talk to Ainz on equal terms and reach an actual understanding.
Actually their guild was top-9 in the whole game with only 41 member (far from max amount of players in one guild). That shows how incredibly powerful and dedicated they were
"we barely see any of the gun maid" Don't worry, she gets her time to shine in the Holy Kingdom movie. Though its a shame its a movie and not a series, as they will likely have to cut a lot for time. And those two books are full of great but small moments.
@Nomo-sapiens I also fear the amount of censorship. Anyone else who read the novels knows this is a pretty wild part in the story with lots of dark aspects they are likely not going to show, or downplay. And NGL, I like the shock factor in the series as it really dares to go there and makes you feel disgust/terror at those moments. Compared to other series that just gloss over darker aspects or outright make death a non-issue, by dealing with deaths having no consequences (video game style). Or just outright never killing anyone important to the plot.
@@jefthereapermaybe a lot of skip when Holy Kingdom people visit E Rantel to ask for help and maybe CZ and Neia "adventure" I don't know... It's just a guess '-'
Zanac's death, his final thoughts and Ainz's anger at the end were more prominent in the novel and here's how it actually happened. Throughout Ainz's conversation with Zanac he continued to be impressed with how Zanac is able to carry himself given the circumstances. He doesn't think that if he was in the same position he'd be able to handle it as well as he was. By the end of their talk he stated that Zanac reminded him of how there's so much more Ainz has yet to to learn about conducting himself as a king or even royalty in general, and that Zanac was very "educational" so Ainz saying Zanac was true royalty is a short way of summing that up. When Zanac was betrayed by those nobles he told them that he even submitted the kingdom as a vassal state to Ainz but Ainz rejected the offer, and the words about how he thinks he wasn't meant to be king actually happened not on horseback but when he drew his sword against the nobles. That made it more heartbreaking that those were his final thoughts before he died and in his last moment in the novel before he perished the words "Happiness" Ainz told to him was the last thing he ever thought. Knowing that made things even more heartbreaking knowing Ainz's words to him was the last thing Zanac ever thought about. As for Ainz's reaction to this whole thing, Ainz actually knew what they did to Zanac before even seeing his head, he only called the nobles over so that he could confirm that Zanac had died and to punish them accordingly. Ainz also sentenced their families to be tortured and killed as well, and it was said Ainz was smiling behind that skull as a sick feeling of pleasure came when he ordered the suffering of their families. In the anime it sounded like Ainz had ordered Cocytus and Mare to kill the army however they wanted but in the novel it was a step further as Ainz ordered them to murder every last innocent citizen within the kingdom, it wasn't just an order to slaughter the army but an order to kill every last trace of life in the kingdom. Throughout this war Ainz was never actually mad at the kingdom, but in this moment he was genuinely upset and the kingdom is about to feel his wrath.
Zanac's death was easily the death that pissed off the fans the most, as well as Ainz himself. Up to this point most of the fans saw Zanac as this typical snobby royal who just wanted power, but with this single episode showed that you shouldn't judge a book by their cover as he's the only one of Ramposa's children that genuinely cared for Re-estize. To the very end, he fought to try and save his people and displayed what true royalty should strive to be. This is what made him be betrayed by the very people he was trying to protect, and then having his head used as leverage was brutal, unbecoming, and totally unwarranted. It wasn't that he died that was infuriating, but HOW he died. This was also reflected in Ainz's response to what they did. They were hoping he'd show mercy because they're proving their loyalty to him, but it was the complete opposite. Ainz was absolutely disgusted by their betrayal of their sovereign. Ainz had made a special connection with Zanac, although it was brief, as when he gave his answer of happiness, he dropped his act and spoke to him like he'd speak to one of his guild mates. So, to see someone who he made an actual connection to die such a disgraceful death, it did NOT sit well with him. Ainz wasn't openly raging where that green light would suppress it. He was quietly seething and just upset and beyond irritated. It was worse than just being mad because if he was mad, it could've been suppressed, but he was just really annoyed and ticked off, which couldn't be suppressed.
Answering Questions/ comments 3:20 Yes players below lv. 100 could have been transported. They also could have been transported without a guild base increasing their ability to go undetected. Then there is the main factor: Ainz hasn't actually explored very much of the world yet 9:50 what? No that was a complete misread on what was said, but it will be corrected this episode 11:10 Sometimes Luke gets the vibe 100% wrong… though technically the uncle was indeed a horny guy 15:35 Hey Luke understood the 3 groups correctly 25:15 Zanack has indeed become a noble and impressive leader, but even his initial “dickheaded comments” when he was first introduced were directed at his sister Renner. And he had every reason to make those comments as he was 100% correct 27:35 Dauntless is something like fearless or “unphased” and able to move forward even in the face of tremendous adversity. 31:15 There has been some development. However, as I said previously in the case of Zanack it is primarily “revealing the full nature of the character” who was always there not development. We were given a skewed initial impression at first but he has not gone through that much change. We the audience have just been given a greater window into what kind of person he really was all along after being intentionally given an incorrect impression initially. 33:18 Neuronist is the nice green tentacle lady that runs the torture chamber we saw in season 3. They are in for a very bad time. Ainz did not like their betrayal of the noble Prince Zanack, yes she was the genital torturer. 34:35 They are in the capital. Definitely not on the Front lines…. though the capital may be the front line soon. 37:10 The nobles were not spared in any sense of the word. They are all dead after they are tortured.
Remember the hugged lady Clementine in season 1? 13:50 this blonde guy is her old brother. She was also one of the Black Scripture before she stole the magic item.
Important small detail: Ainz commanded to bury Zanac with respect, even asked where the body was in addition to the head. So Ainz decided not to convert his remains to a death knight, nor butcher for spare parts like a prey. He commanded to bury Zanac with respect.
Though he did respect Zanac, Ainz wasn't asking where the body was to give it a "proper" burial. The "proper burial" instructions he gave to Albedo were referring to just his head. He was asking about the body because he wanted to recover the armor of Gazef which was seen as a National Treasure to the kingdom. The armor is pretty weak compared to Nazarick's standards, but Ainz loves to collect and study rare things. He asked Zanac where Gazef's sword was because he wants it to study and fully understand why it has the potential to harm him when the magic power/data level of the weapon is actually pretty low. He also wants it for the same reason as the armor as well. Loot Hoarders always be hoarding.
@@esupton783 The anime tries to convey it and somewhat delivers, but it doesn't come across as well as it does in the LNs. But I find it hilarious that Ainz really thinks El Nix is the perfect example of being a king/ruler for the way he runs the Empire and just wants to be BFFs while El Nix loathes him and is being driven insane by having to deal with him. It's funny in the LNs but Ainz just wants to hang out with El Nix as much as he can and learn about how to be proper ruler. It's so relatable as I feel like a lot of us have either had that one friend or been that one friend who was secretly just hating behind the scenes.
I don't know, if it's true... but i heard, that in the Novels, Ains wanted to call off the attack after he talked to the prince. But then, those idiotic nobels came with the head of the Prince. Of course he doesn't let those traitors get away with that.
This is when you realize that the prince is similar to Erwin and Armin, he never wanted to go against the Sorcerer's kingdom, but unfortunately people around him is too rotten. He could be a good king, but the plot decided not 💀
It isn't specified in the anime but in the novel one of the nobles asks Ainz to bring his family with him Well, let's say Ainz is a merciful one and he did in fact grant that wish xD
The fact that he made Mare a commander for this siege after Zanac was killed shows how angry he is, because Mare is the LEAST merciful out of all of Ainz' subordinates.
I wouldn't say that mare is the least merciful, it's just that mare seems to not care in the slightest about non nazarick denizens. So he uses the simplest most effective methods to get the jobs done. It's like massacreing people is the equivalent to finding the best way to take out the trash.
@@smugsneasel exactly that, we've seen him cast a spell that swallowed dozens of soldiers, we've seen him break Hilda's leg like it was a casual greeting and then proceed to drag her by her hair with a straight face. Mare just doesn't care at all about people who aren't from Nazarick
Mare is not the least merciful, but he stricts on mission with simplest and quickest ways, not play with preys like Shaltears, but do as quick as he can like when he captured Hilma the one of eight fingers, mission is instantly finish in no times, if mission is to kill all people without any survivors, he will do anythings that make sure no one survive
Well it's like the situation with what's her face the cowardly knight. She wanted to run like the dickens only for Jircniv to point out that if she did, she'd no longer be his knight and thus an uninvited intruder. So anyone who betrayed Zanac wasn't really covered by that promise anyway.
As you draw closer to the end of Overlord, a reminder that there is more hijinx with Ainz and the gang in 'Isekai Quartet'. You've officially seen all the prerequisites: Kono Suba, Re:Zero, Tanya the Evil, and Overlord. Now you can see them come together to conquer the greatest challenges of all!
ainz isnt 100% bluffing in the begin for once, he always assumes a player or such could show up when he makes a move. they still misinterpret his reasons - he was merely trying to stay true to the promise he had made with nigredo and the dogmaid. he also had essential an dialogue with the others prior to the begin of their offensive, where he told the npc that he would intentionally make errors in the future to see how they would react and adapt to sudden changes in their planes, which was like the smartest move he ever made as he essentially gave himself a permanent blanko check for fucking up and them never suspecting a thing. at the katze plain battle the kingdom fielded an army of 260,000 soldiers, when faced ainz this time they had an army of around 400,000 or more - a majority of those were force conscripted prisoners.
Zannac is such an interesting character. He has a very practical mindset AND he truly wish for the kingdom to thrive, both are extremely good qualities for a ruler. But being the second prince he was not expected to be king (all the old fashioned stubborn nobles would be against it) so his talents were not utilized, so he was bitter all the time that's why he was a douche in the early seasons. Then finally he has a glimpse of how he would make the kingdom a better place after his brother's disappearance (by limiting the nobles' influence over time and become a vassal state of the Sorcery Kingdom). Then an idiot poked the bear and suddenly he's got no time left. Truly a tragic character.
After the Chat with Zanac, Ainz rly thought about not killing everyone in the kingdom and also fulfilling the wishes from Nigredo. BUt after the nobles gave Ainz the head he was like: Nah f*ck them!
08:47 "I don't think that's what they've done." They don't need to physically capture the son as a hostage. Raeven just knows that the Sorcerer Kingdom has the ability to kill everybody in their path... including the lords of the cities they go through... and their families. The marquis has experienced first-hand the absolute individual strength of Ainz, not to mention his whole army, so he has no illusion that his son would survive the war unless he has an agreement to that end with the Sorcerer King.
After this conversation with the prince Ainz literally thought about, calling the whole thing off, just because the prince left a very good impression with Ainz. Ainz honestly thinks very highly of the Emporer El Nix, but with the Emperor he never felt some kind of wavelength compatablility. With the prince however, he did. Just right know in this conversation. And then next thing that happened those nobles show up with the princes head in their bag.... At least this very quickly solved Ainz's dilema, wether to call of the entire war (and how on earth to acomplish to do so without angering and anoying all of Nazerik), just for the princes survival. But that's why Ainz was that angry with those nobles in case you're wondering. But it a perfect example of dramatic irony that, (without them knowing of course) the prince beeing alive was the only slim chance they could possibly survive (by Ainz changing his mind), and by killing him in order to survive, they set their unlucky fate in stone.
i had the exact same face as you do when they actually bring Zanac's head to Ainz his final stand was awesome though i heard Zanac manage to kill quite a few in the tent before dying
In the LN, Ainz actually wanted to kill off only the nobles who bring Zanac's head, but the nobles themselves begged Ainz to also "spare" their family. So, Ainz didn't want to "save" their family, before they begged him to.
3:23 So Ainz and his guild were maxed out, many (but not all) of the NPCs are as well, and from what I understand not everyone makes an entire fortress kingdom like they did. They were pretty notorious..
It's so funny to see Renner "theorizing" that Raeven's son was kidnapped when she was the one who suggested that plan in the first place lol. Literally the best human character of the series right there!🤩 Also, the black scripture is the group that Clementine (crazy chick season 1) belonged to, in fact, the blonde guy is her brother.
30:41 the moment everyone respected Zanac! Also let's put some respect to that minister who stood by Zanac and fought with him because they were only after Zanac not him, he could've ran away but he chose to fight by his king's side and like Zanac was murdered for it. At least Zanac didn't fight alone 😢 I said it before but Ainz's words of happiness was the final thought Zanac had in his head before his death because up to this point he hated the Sorcerer King cursing his existence, yet to see just how human Ainz really was in his motivations, it really moved Zanac in such an unexpected way. One last thing I wanna mention on top of everything else is that the nobles didn't even have the balls to kill Zanac themselves despite outnumbering him. They called in mercenaries to kill Zanac which was another cowardly detail on top of their disgusting cowardice.
That armor is good magic armor, which is why Ainz wanted to retrieve it, along with the sword currently being held by Brain/Brian. Ainz wanted to make sure it wasn't lost, stolen or destroyed (especially by someone who is a known or yet unknown enemy). The armor is one of the kingdom's royal treasures. Gazef was just bestowed the honor of using it by the king, since Gazef was the kingdom's best warrior. It was also why Gazef refused to turn the armor or his sword (also a royal treasure) over to Ainz back in their duel in Season3. It didn't belong to him, so he didn't have the right to gamble with it. Because it is a royal treasure that is why Zanac was wearing it. Really, with Gazef dead, there was nobody else worthy (or trustworthy) enough to wear it into battle besides Zanac. Unfortunately, Zanac was a highly intelligent man, but his fighting ability was practically non-existent. His brother Barbro was the inverse, with all the brawn, but none of the brain. At Zanac's ability level, the armor really just gave him significant defensive bonuses to help keep him alive a little longer. But he was still basically just a newb wearing exceptional gear. Something that will only get you so far against just one decent fighter. And Zanac was being surrounded by several people with more fighting experience at the end.
when you do your rereaction, it would be great if you heard some of the full song versions of the openings or endings. Each opening and ending gets 3x better later on in the song that is past the regular opening version. You have only heard the Voracity full version, but not any other opening or ending. They truly are amazing!
In the light novel Ainz did sentence the nobles families to be tortured to death as well even stating that he had sick smile behind that skull of his when he told Albedo to also send their families to where they were going. Neuronist was that green torturer in season 3 episode 8 with the kidney stone simulator so to reward them of their disgusting betrayal, they won't even be granted the mercy of death, they'll be tortured so badly that they'll be begging for death. They truly deserve it as their betrayal to Zanac was essentially the nail in the coffin for Re-estize. It went from giving Zanac and the rest of Re-estize swift and painless deaths from instant death magic, to instead Ainz out of anger telling Cocytus and Mare to hunt them down and kill every last one of them. Even if they try to flee there's no escape. They can thank those nobles for killing Zanac. Also just like with the anime the actual massacre of Zanac's army wasn't shown in the novel. But it's stated that within less than an hour the entire army of 400k people were wiped out.
35:00 Ainz was actually ready to call off the entire thing, but seeing one of the few good humans he liked die, like he said, Ainz lost interest, this moment, Ainz lost his humanity completely, that's how I saw it at least. He finally let go.
5:00 albedo's creator had a thing for making people look like they have the opposite personality of their actual personality (so the scary looking one is one of the nicest ones and the succubus being innocent) thats all i can say about this
I am curious is nigredo's face ripped on purpose because that is how her character was created... or did she rip her own face as punishment because she spoke against Ainz's plan?
@@jorgitosilva It's intentional. She was meant to look like a horror movie monster yet have a severe love of children and caring nature, basically the creator of Albedo and her sisters had a love of gap moe, the concept of having conflicting character traits. She was also meant to be a bit of a prank on the other guild members as she was designed to attack anyone who entered her room without presenting her with one of the baby dolls left just outside it which she would then cuddle with. Also of note, she does have a genuine kindness to her, but that only applies to infants and toddlers. After they grow up, she is just as likely to kill them as anyone else in Nazarik is.
Ainz cannot turn of the Emotion supression, it only activates when he feels strong emotions (anger over not realizing Shalltear was brainwashed with World Item, embarrasment over meeting Pandora's Actor (repeatedly), Surprise when Crush offered her body to him back in season 2 and so on). Please cut some slack to gun maid (Shizu) she's getting a movie to steal for herself (Buy RuneCraft Uwaaaah~) [sorry I had to] Neuronist is Special information gatherer, also simply called torturer (that slimy girl who in last season tortured the worker with tool to extract kidney stones) and yes Ainz did spare them and their families too.
in the LN it was mentioned if nazarick didnt exist and zanek became king he would be able to resist the empire attacks and make the kingdom thrive under his rule.
25:35 "He's really filled those shoes." To be fair, he hasn't changed all that much, but the circumstances have. A lot. He's always been a pragmatic character, with a solid patriotic foundation. At first, he was second in line for the throne, so he was ready to fill the role of a helper to his brother, scheming in the shadows while his brother was reigning in the light. Then his brother died and he became the heir. (They didn't know that for sure, but they heavily suspected it.) Not that he rejoiced, but suddenly the burden of power officially became his. Which means he couldn't continue with the idea of scheming in the background. And now, the history of his kingdom is about to come to a screeching halt while his father is in despair from the loss of his first child and the impeding doom of his kingdom. Zanac is out of options, but he'll take responsibility to the last minute.
Adventurers are usually not involved in war unless it strikes them personally/directly. Remember the guild master said they normally are not involved in politics - they are independent in each nation.
Yes the tor... i mean information gatherer Neuronist Painkill e.g even worse place to be than in the cockroach pit. Some random trivia: both Neuronist and Kyouhukou (cockroach king thing) are both part of "elite" team in Nazarick called "Five Worst"
To be clear, another way to look at the dialogue between King Zanac and Ainz is that, it's more like a discussion between Suzuki Satorou (the human) and the king. This is the first time that Ainz, more or less, dropped his façade and spoke comfortably and gave his real thoughts on things without worry of being judged. He was truly thankful to Zanac for this discussion, which also caused Ainz to view Zanac as the epitome of a good king. This is also the kind of relationship he had hoped to forge with Jircniv. For that reason, he initially held pity for the kingdom, enough to extend the promise of giving the Kingdom's soldiers and people a quick and painless instant death. (I say this especially, to correct the common misconception of turned Mandela Effect, which caused people to think that Ainz was thinking about calling off the war. No, that is not a thing. That goes completely against his whole speech of doing whatever it takes to make his children Happy.) But after the violent coup of Zanac, all bets were all. For the nobles, it would be a slow horrifically torturous death, where even begging would only prolong the death for even more suffering. For the people, it means a brutal massacre where there will be no survivors. Also, not to be that person, but the Re-Estize Kingdom kind of deserves to be destroyed. They should have tried vassalization right away because at least then they would have been spared, but they decided against it out of fear of the noble response-which is like, are you serious? At least they'd still be alive to complain, but now, lol, we all know what's coming. The kingdom is a toxic cesspool, riddled with crime, drugs, and centuries of corruption that is too far gone to fix purely because of generations of incompetence and rigid stupidity. Zanac and Marquis Raven were the only two genuinely interested in cleaning it up, and they had to do so much politicking to hide their true intentions, otherwise, they would have been pushed back. That environment is what caused Princess Renner to become the broken, antisocial, sadistic, two-faced monster that she is today. She used to care as a child, and it broke her to have her ideas rejected because the people were too stupid, close-minded, and/or corrupt to understand good policies.
25:30 Yes! Actually, according to authors governors tier list, Zanack is at the 4th rank (together with the clan lord of the dudes from dwarf arc) 2nd is Jircniv (Gilgamesh looking emperor) and 3rd is someone very rarerly mentioned I am pretty sure. (I think I said this before but Ainz is at the rock bottom) 32:05 You can see how done with kingdom nobles Ainz is at this moment. None of the usual grandeur and style he usually shows. He justs paces to his throne and throws himself. 32:55 For those who forgot, Neuronist is the creepy torturer of Nazarick 33:08 in novels they first beg for their lives, Ainz tells Albedo to send them to Neuronist, then they beg for their families as well and Ainz tells Albedo to find their families and send them as well. 34:30 You'd guess unstoppable force of nature level and you'd be closer to truth than you expected. 34:58 Ainz actually liked and truly respected Zanac because of that short conversation they had. He was clearly pissed about his death and that was also the point where he no longer had any regrets or hesitations about ending the kingdom 36:31 He has like one level as a fighter and thats it. His other classes are politics oriented.
"now he looks like a decent leader" - ya seen his true self. he was always playing a role prior, playing the asshole, navigating in the back behind other ppl moving pawns etc, for a better kingdom. ainz was also observing how the prince was behaving when came for ainz, who would get first down from the horse who would get back up first etc, and retreating that hadnt considered looking out more on him as he deemed him decent. dauntless - fearless/brave. most of the adventurers are being bought up by the slane theocracy and send to the dragon empire to assist the humans there in their war with the beastfolk.
Ainz actually liked Zanac just off of this one encounter. Zanac dying such a pointless death genuinely upset him to the point that he willingly sent those men, and by request their families, to be tortured to death by the scantly clad C'thulhu looking creature, Neuronist.
So no one will comment about the Clementine lookalike leading the black scripture ??? (it's her brother, and the one they talked about who deviated from the path of the hero was Clementine, so they are all on clementine level = trivial to ainz)
The prince said quite the opposite actually... he said HE was going to join the battle front... and that his Father could take up the kingdom once the prince himself died... which is why he made him "indisposed" when the princess asked for him... the king tried to sacrifice himself... so the prince stopped him and sacrificed himself instead to save the king and leave everything to him afterwards... He also asked about his brother because he was actually worried about him... He went to a random village in the middle of nowhere and never came back... And considering his brother was the one who was completely power hungry and wanted to take the throne he might also be worried the muscle brain older brother might make a mess for his father after the fat prince dies in this battle...
34:44 adventures are not soldiers they dont have to help the kingdom if they dont feel like it (and everyone knows its a death sentence at this point so only the ones with family or really good friends in the kingdom would bother)
Oh yeah, Momonga was PISSED at them killing Prince Zanac. He's actually grown to respect that guy, much like the Emperor, as someone he can look at as a model on how to be a good ruler. For him to then get assassinated by the selfserving nobles in such a boorish attempt to ingratiate themselves to Momonga was a death that he really didn't deserve. Those nobles are in it for a hell of a time with Neuronist (the one with the kidneystone plunger) and Momonga has explicitely revoked their right to mercy, there will be no swift death for them. On a brighter note: not long until we will at long last hear the loveliest of singing voices. Princess Renner shall have her moment to shine!
Zanac is actually a good person. at the beginning of the season he looks like a bad guy. but actually he works behind the scenes suppressing corrupt nobles for the sake of his kingdom, and he does everything he can to become king because his two brothers can't be expected. his older brother is strong but stupid. while his younger sister is smart but psychopathic. Zanac does not have the strong body of his first brother and does not have the intelligence of his younger sister. But he is the most loyal to the kingdom.
His talk with Zannac, when asked why he's doing all this is the moment when Ainz gives up hoping to find his friends in this world and refocuses on making as happy of a life as he can with the NPCs. _"It's better to grab hold of the chance to obtain such happiness if the opportunity to do so is so easily available"_ words directed at himself, telling him it's time to move on, as much as they are at Zannac telling him that the Kingdom needs to die.
Neuronist is the torturer. The blonde guy from the theocracy is Clementine's brother. Shizu Delta the maid with the rifle will her time to shine. You dare questions the actions of master Phillip the wise? Oh such a shame the anime did not display his military genius..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
33:18 "I'm guessing Neuronist is one the ones we've seen." Right. During the Tomb Invaders arc. Some of the plunderers were sent to Neuronist, the -torturer- interrogator of Nazarick. Has some interesting toys which I'd rather not mention as they make me wince just by remembering them. (The other one you thought about was Kyouhukou and his family, seen in the same episode.)
to be honest, in ainz position i would have reacted the same. Meeting someone really likeable who is in kind of a similar position (royal, in charge out of nowhere) and a few moments later seeing him beeing betraid and killed.
2:38 Luke let's be real here, if it's Ainz's dong ALL of the guardians would happily accept it and want it LOL And yes AInz at the end was pretty pissed. He was basically like "oh so you want to live and your families to live too? Sure I will make sure you guys stay alive in Nazarick being tortured and wanting to beg for death".
the prince and the princess first scenes were such subversion of characters The first scene is the fat smug prince badmouthing his perfect pretty sister to her loyal knight, he's presented as a weasel scheming with his high rank friend while she is presented as pure and victim. And the fantasy writing tropes encourage us to believe so. But then turns out all he said back then to Climb about the princess being evil and manipulating was 100% correct and he was indeed by far the only child of the king who was even remotely close to being a good potential ruler. Such a great subversion of character tropes
27:55 Both are suffering from imposter syndrome. They both recognize each other are true royals, fit to lead their kingdoms... ... but they don't see it in themselves.
Zanak was introduced as a villain and someone to hate, but he dies a king devoted to his kingdom fighting against that very kingdom, turned against him. We may not have seen much of Zanak, but he in his dying hours was just what his kingdom needed so many years before that. Let's all take a moment to acknowledge his heroic stand and how great a person he turned out to be...
21:40 And here we have the second best bro moment with Ainz. Gazef walked to his death, defiant to the last second. Zanac is doing roughly the same thing. I feel more sorry for Zanac though.
@19:50 - If you like battles then definitely you should watch Kingdom. Overlord doesn't even come close when it comes to battles, tactics and warfare. One of the best anime/ manga I've watched. Also longest running historical manga in Shonen Jump I believe.
@@Lu_C_NT The problem is Kingdom fans are few and most anime fans just watch mainstream. Unless fans vote for Kingdom to watch on his channel, it won't even get the light of day.
It is heavily suggested that one player actually came to the new world with a low level character but that person somehow leveled up. Players might be different than npcs and new world natives and gain experience faster. Or maybe by the use of some Item? We don't know. Point being there might be other low level players out there or they might still spawn in a few hundred years or so. could also be that ainz ooal gown guild members where not in the vicinity of the throne when Ainz got teleported and that they join later. There is a spin off where Ainz got teleported ahead of time presumably because he wasn't in the force field of his throne when the game shut down. Same thing might have happened with ainz ooal gown members. Still banking for that but i am doubtful.
Its episode like this that it's good to remember that while Ainz is the protagonist, it is the side character who are the heroes who get character devolopment. Because in Overlord, the story is propelled by the world and the people who lives in it, not the OP main character.
the nobles didnt know how much they fucked up, after the meeting ainz was considering being merciful after the princes display and ability to be true royalty. He was actually going to let them and the kingdom live. but killing him pissed him off so much as you could tell. sending them to neuronist the torturer, remember death in nazerick is a mercy in it self, but they wouldn't receive such mercy. even telling albedo to bury him with respect. which is like asking albedo to give a dead insect a burial with high regard.
Not only could the players transported be weak... but they could also have been transported here on their own, they may have not belonged to any guild or have made their own dungeons with all these npcs...
03:18 "Players can exist in this world, but aren't as strong as Ainz." In absolute in Yggdrasil, Momonga was a good player but not top-tier. Here though, he would have several advantages to some random solo player. The main one is how he got here with his whole base, complete with top-level NPCs and a large collection of items, including several World Items. So he would likely be stronger than a random player, but still that's not a guarantee.
no against a solo player nazarick would win 99,99999% the rest being maybe the player has one of the 20 super broken world items and gets to use it first nazarick still has 2 of the 20 and like 11 other world items
@@yasarekin Nazarick, yes. Momonga by himself, no so much. In particular, he lost quite often against players he knew nothing about (though he rarely lost a revenge match). And that's the strength he has here: he does have a full guild-worth of NPCs and equipment. Not counting the other players of the guild, but counting their gear. Even meeting an unknown player, his chances would likely be pretty good. However, there were also a few optimized builds with broken classes that he couldn't win against, even with information and time to prepare.
just reminder... 1st season 1st party death is seems cruel...-> 2nd season: hold my beer 2nd season u invested in leazardman characters, and they dead(they resurected mostly but not all) -> 3rd season: hold my beer 3rd season adventures come in nazarick, to feel despair... so cruel(Gazef and army here was too)... ->4 season: hold my beer u can enjoy 4rd season ))) but try to guess what movie preparing for us?)))
Ainz literally was having second thoughts about slaughtering the kingdom after speaking with Zanac. Something that I consider awesome with Overlord is how they animate and show the emotions of Ainz, despite him being a skeleton. You can tell when he sat down(after seeing Zanac's head) his disgust at the nobles. He didn't flourish, try to look impressive, or regal. And yes, you've seen Neuronist before. Neuronist Painkill was the torturer/interrogator you saw torturing a worker chained to the wall in Season 3. "I shall give you a reward comparable to your efforts".
@@-Apoptos- I remember dealing with you before, you're just as incorrect now as you were back then. Ainz(more specifically, Demiurge's) plan was to leave only a select few nobles and their families alive. Ainz, after talking with Zanac, not only considered expanding who would be alive, but if it was enough to fulfill Nazarick's goal without the need of wholesale slaughter. If the kingdom accepted fealty or vassal-ship, that would be enough.
@@weirdo82 and I dont recall receiving a proper answer. Quote me exactly the part he had second thoughts or planned to allow more to live after speaking with Zanac. I assure you Ive read through it several times, and at no point does Ainz consider stopping or changing their plan. He respected Zanac and offered his people a gentle death, thats all
When Ainz got to talk to Zanac he actually grew to respect him a lot and even thought about cancelling the whole war because of it but once he saw how his people actually betrayed him he just lost his shit and well, they and their families got to suffer.
3:36 So it's been heavily implied that there have been players in this world before. "The 13 Heroes" and "The Eight Greed Kings" were mentioned a lot and i'm not sure if they said it in the anime, but the people who were around them (Evileye, Platinum Dragon, etc) heard them refer to themselves as "Players", now they might not know what that means, but to the people who know of this word, "Players" are essentially godlike beings who have enormous amounts of power. Now the interesting bit about this is that the strongest people from this world still consider themselves to be on par with these players; Fluder is said to be on par with one of the 13 heroes at the point we see him in his life, and the Platinum Dragon was capable of taking out the Greed Kings. This implies that while players did come to this world, they did not come at max level and more likely came in at the mid to high level range (13 heroes implied to be about lvl 50-mid 60s and Greed Kings maybe 70s-80s). Ainz and the Guardians are the only Players since then that have entered at the Max level (this is also a concern Ainz has mentioned because being max level means no growth which means that the people of this world have the potential to out level him one day, thus his experiments to see if his Guardians can grow).
Neuronist is the green slimy lady with the masculine voice. Don't worry, Ainz made sure to send their families with them too. They'll all get to have lot's of fun with Neuronist and her servants! Won't that be nice? When we look at the Re-Estize Kingdom arc it comes down to how worthless the nobles were for each season. They were helping the 8 Fingers sell drugs and enslave women. They undermined the king at every opportunity. Some were spies for the empire or the theocracy. They prevented the kingdom from improving relations with the sorcerer kingdom and when they realized that Ainz victory was imminent tried to backstab the king to save their own lives.
Adventurers are supposed to stay apolitical remember. Almost none are part of armies. As for Prince Zanac... I think the reason has sudden killing was so sudden to you is because it went against storytelling norms. Normally, whenever there is a panicked rebellion, and the prince makes his speech, the rebels are taken with his words. Normally in storytelling, the death of a major character (from the perspective of the verse) is supposed to have a build up or be foreshadowed, and we become used to that, so even when we see the scene of Zanac massively outnumbered in a panicked rebellion of people trying to save themselves we are wondering how he will get out of it... it's against all expectation when he simply dies to circumstance.
Neuronist is one who played with naked adventure guy and struck stick with Morning Star like head through pee-hole.... Neuronist also gags people who come to have "fun time" and with "fun time" i mean to be tortured for fun or information. Gagged people really can't beg for mercy, so Ainz had Neuronist to torture those nobles and their families for rest of their lives, along with some healing magic to make sure they stay there for whole of their lives!
Fun Fact: Evileye of Blue Rose has been dead since long before Ainz came to this land. 😉😏 Also, it's interesting that you bring up Phillip as the cause of this war/battle. Come talk to me after this season is over. I'd love to see how you feel about it then.
If they didnt kill the prince ainz was highly likely to call of the attack because of how much he respected him after that conversation so yeah the nobles fricked up the whole kingdom
It's worth noting Sebas and the other two are about the only NPCs in all of Nazirick with positive Karma. Most have negative, but a few have neutral Karma. They're the only ones who would ask to avoid pointless killing even if they are still absolutely loyal to Ainz.
A fun fact that I don't think has been said yet: The author of the LN has said that if Gazef, Renner, and Zanac had all joined forces, they would have brought prosperity to the kingdom.

Neuronist was shown in the episode where the workers invaded Nazarick. Neuronist is the chief interrogator/torturer and was going to use the spikey probe on that worker's "urination hole". So yeah, Ainz is really mad at those nobles.

That was the exact quote from the novel. Honestly, it breaks my heart seeing that all along Zanac never actually wanted to become king in the first place. He only ever wanted to do what was right and to make his country a better place and that Ainz saying "Happiness" was the last thought he ever had.

Right. He had respect for the prince, and these nobles just stomped on this respect.
They've forfeited the easy death they were about to get.
Good job for him staying cool (no emotion suppressor here) while he casually sent them to Neuronist.
Some might have even survived if they maintained some semblance of loyalty. By betraying Zanac, they doomed everyone. So frustrating.
Yeah the casual
... Off you go... Terrifying
Though its a shame its a movie and not a series, as they will likely have to cut a lot for time.
And those two books are full of great but small moments.
We need a movie at least two hours long without credits to have the same screen time as a normal season.

The Prince character development got me in this episode fr
Yeah, I didn't even like him when he was first introduced but now... Damn ❤
Up until this day, no one could explain how King Zanac's horse could carry his massive balls
It was worse than just being mad because if he was mad, it could've been suppressed, but he was just really annoyed and ticked off, which couldn't be suppressed.
well said!

3:20 Yes players below lv. 100 could have been transported. They also could have been transported without a guild base increasing their ability to go undetected. Then there is the main factor: Ainz hasn't actually explored very much of the world yet

15:35 Hey Luke understood the 3 groups correctly
25:15 Zanack has indeed become a noble and impressive leader, but even his initial “dickheaded comments” when he was first introduced were directed at his sister Renner. And he had every reason to make those comments as he was 100% correct
27:35 Dauntless is something like fearless or “unphased” and able to move forward even in the face of tremendous adversity.
That must've made for some interesting conversations with his bosses.
😳
Important small detail: Ainz commanded to bury Zanac with respect, even asked where the body was in addition to the head. So Ainz decided not to convert his remains to a death knight, nor butcher for spare parts like a prey.
He commanded to bury Zanac with respect.
Him and Gazef (and maybe El Nix, but that's more a side effect of Ainz watching him like a podcast) were the only humans that Ainz truly respected

Well, let's say Ainz is a merciful one and he did in fact grant that wish xD
The fact that he made Mare a commander for this siege after Zanac was killed shows how angry he is, because Mare is the LEAST merciful out of all of Ainz' subordinates.
Mare is not the LEAST merciful of Ainz subordinates.
Mare is the source of the widest area of effect magic. Gargantua has the least mercy, being that it doesn't have the capacity for ANY.
Pledging their loyalty after a betrayal really shows how loyal they are.
When you promise to kill someone gently, but the nobles make you break your promise.
Now you can see them come together to conquer the greatest challenges of all!
shield hero
ainz isnt 100% bluffing in the begin for once, he always assumes a player or such could show up when he makes a move.
they still misinterpret his reasons - he was merely trying to stay true to the promise he had made with nigredo and the dogmaid.
he also had essential an dialogue with the others prior to the begin of their offensive, where he told the npc that he would intentionally make errors in the future to see how they would react and adapt to sudden changes in their planes, which was like the smartest move he ever made as he essentially gave himself a permanent blanko check for fucking up and them never suspecting a thing.
at the katze plain battle the kingdom fielded an army of 260,000 soldiers, when faced ainz this time they had an army of around 400,000 or more - a majority of those were force conscripted prisoners.
Her name is Pestonya Shortcake Wanko, sir! Uh...woof!
@@NiirTheRaccoon i know, but dogmaid should be more obviouse for luke, whom i referring to, hopefully...
The curse of Luke strikes again!
The exact moment you paused to talk about how the Prince's character had developed so much, I started laughing.
The episode's title was "The Last King", suitable title for Crown Prince Zanac. Those nobles would wish they died.
08:47 "I don't think that's what they've done."
They don't need to physically capture the son as a hostage.
Literally the best human character of the series right there!🤩
Also, the black scripture is the group that Clementine (crazy chick season 1) belonged to, in fact, the blonde guy is her brother.
Ains can show respect to his enemies, but traitors deserve nothing but contempt.
when you do your rereaction, it would be great if you heard some of the full song versions of the openings or endings.
Ainz was still willing to let people escape because he respected the prince. However, those nobles ruined that and condemned everyone to death.
Please cut some slack to gun maid (Shizu) she's getting a movie to steal for herself (Buy RuneCraft Uwaaaah~) [sorry I had to]
Neuronist is Special information gatherer, also simply called torturer (that slimy girl who in last season tortured the worker with tool to extract kidney stones) and yes Ainz did spare them and their families too.
"spared"... they are being tortured and constantly being kept alive through healing until they beg for death - which will come very slowly.
Shizu = MVP
in the LN it was mentioned if nazarick didnt exist and zanek became king he would be able to resist the empire attacks and make the kingdom thrive under his rule.
25:35 "He's really filled those shoes."
To be fair, he hasn't changed all that much, but the circumstances have.
Some random trivia: both Neuronist and Kyouhukou (cockroach king thing) are both part of "elite" team in Nazarick called "Five Worst"
albedo and shalltear want more than an appreciation😊
(I think I said this before but Ainz is at the rock bottom)
32:05 You can see how done with kingdom nobles Ainz is at this moment. None of the usual grandeur and style he usually shows. He justs paces to his throne and throws himself.
32:55 For those who forgot, Neuronist is the creepy torturer of Nazarick
33:08 in novels they first beg for their lives, Ainz tells Albedo to send them to Neuronist, then they beg for their families as well and Ainz tells Albedo to find their families and send them as well.
34:30 You'd guess unstoppable force of nature level and you'd be closer to truth than you expected.
34:58 Ainz actually liked and truly respected Zanac because of that short conversation they had. He was clearly pissed about his death and that was also the point where he no longer had any regrets or hesitations about ending the kingdom
36:31 He has like one level as a fighter and thats it.
Well the dog maid is a dog and Nigredo is a 'mother' figure thus protective nature towards humans
Get ready for the final 3 episodes because they will be great
just because you said you love shows with army and tactics and stuff. I think that "Record of Grancrest War" is a must watch for you
34:44 adventures are not soldiers they dont have to help the kingdom if they dont feel like it (and everyone knows its a death sentence at this point so only the ones with family or really good friends in the kingdom would bother)
Cannot wait for the reaction to the scene leading up to that song and then the song itself
32:50 Neuronist😏😏Albedo knows everything after she heard this name.
I think i red somewhere that Ainz in book said (after sending nobles to Neuronist) "They wanted to live, so they won't die easily"
33:18 "I'm guessing Neuronist is one the ones we've seen."
Right.
I like how in a fast interaction Zanac managed to pick Ainz respect enough for him to be angry about his death.
to be honest, in ainz position i would have reacted the same. Meeting someone really likeable who is in kind of a similar position (royal, in charge out of nowhere) and a few moments later seeing him beeing betraid and killed.
2:38 Luke let's be real here, if it's Ainz's dong ALL of the guardians would happily accept it and want it LOL
And yes AInz at the end was pretty pissed. He was basically like "oh so you want to live and your families to live too? Sure I will make sure you guys stay alive in Nazarick being tortured and wanting to beg for death".
the prince and the princess first scenes were such subversion of characters
The first scene is the fat smug prince badmouthing his perfect pretty sister to her loyal knight, he's presented as a weasel scheming with his high rank friend while she is presented as pure and victim. And the fantasy writing tropes encourage us to believe so.
But then turns out all he said back then to Climb about the princess being evil and manipulating was 100% correct and he was indeed by far the only child of the king who was even remotely close to being a good potential ruler.
Such a great subversion of character tropes
rewatch the dialoge. Zanac made situation from worst to bad. royalty made the situation from bad, to worst, then to horrible.
13:30 "Oy Oy Oy", second best exclamation quote after "Ara ara".
Can second to that, KINGDOM is just great.
I hope Luke will react to the anime in near future.
They really expected to be trusted about their loyalty after having betrayed their previous leader.
the nobles didnt know how much they fucked up, after the meeting ainz was considering being merciful after the princes display and ability to be true royalty.
03:18 "Players can exist in this world, but aren't as strong as Ainz."
In absolute in Yggdrasil, Momonga was a good player but not top-tier.
However, there were also a few optimized builds with broken classes that he couldn't win against, even with information and time to prepare.
even when ainz dont have facial expressions the sight when he saw Zanac´s head was super emotional
just reminder... 1st season 1st party death is seems cruel...-> 2nd season: hold my beer
2nd season u invested in leazardman characters, and they dead(they resurected mostly but not all) -> 3rd season: hold my beer
3rd season adventures come in nazarick, to feel despair... so cruel(Gazef and army here was too)... ->4 season: hold my beer
u can enjoy 4rd season ))) but try to guess what movie preparing for us?)))
He never had second thoughts, he only respected Zanac
12:40 Evileye really pulled a, "Bitches, leave!" card.
24:00 His name is Prince Zanac. He's quite the pill.
Fun Fact: Evileye of Blue Rose has been dead since long before Ainz came to this land. 😉😏
Also, it's interesting that you bring up Phillip as the cause of this war/battle.
