@@ThePrepperAlmanac I live in Southern Calizuela. We are having high winds and huge fires. Edison shut off our power for for several miles around our house. I have been prepping since 1978. I thought I was prepared. I built an off grid solar system that runs my big freezer and a large refrigerator for the last six years. I also have generators and fuel. I found out that we had no phone, no alarm system, no microwave, no Television and NO INTERNET. I found out that I am addicted to the internet and found myself having to do many of the chores around the house to fill the time I had. Nuff said.
@@richardackerman838 Those fires have been crazy in Southern California. I've been watching the news reports and it's all so sad. And speaking of no internet, I've been thinking of getting Starlink to help alleviate that in case it ever goes down in a grid-down scenario or something similar.
I was discussing driveway alarms with my son earlier today. I sent him a link for a nice setup on Amazon. He told me, if you are at church or at the market, it won't do any good. He said I need 9 very high quality wired cameras from Costco. The cameras can be on a home based system running on my off grid solar system, but can send everything to my phone. I can talk to and hear anyone on the property. The cameras have night vision too. My son installs camera systems and alarms in homes and businesses. He's working on a price for the cameras and the wired install for me. You get what you pay for. Just sayin'
Exactly! That's why I prep! To be prepared for whatever comes our way. Something will eventually happen, I just want to be prepared for all scenarios. Including a long-term and severe economic downturn. That's why I'm growing my own food.
I hear ya. There are some cheap ways to go. The driveway sensors are cheap. I use Ring cameras around my house. Those were pretty cheap when I purchased them in a 5-pack. Then I installed them myself. And brush thickets around your windows is cheap as well. For the more expensive stuff, just do it over time as funds are available.

I love my Ring cameras personally. I have 7 of them. They are easy to install and can easily be moved. And I receive every notification on my phone.
