    Recently, discovered your channel.... I am into basically everything that you are... poultry, gardening, camping, outdoor stuff etc. but I never learned how to build things ! Leaving me at the mercy of friends, and family....All the time being ridiculed for my ? sometimes even called lazy...which is far from the truth. being totally left handed...., no one had patience with me, as achild, when it came to building....they expected me to do things right handed.....upside down to me LOL what I'm trying to say is : by watching your great visually, step by step , building plans has helped me greatly. I have designed my own rustic arbor, garden boxes, from your videos, and hope to add on to my chicken house etc. so Thanks showing step by step....to the building challenged ....Ron Shook Ps. I live in the Adirondack Mtns. Upstate NY.

      Ron Shook this had to be one of the best comments I've ever gotten! That is awesome the videos have inspired you. I can't imagine what it would be like having everyone try and force you into a specific box growing up like that. Most of the time I have no idea what I'm doing. I just keep telling myself to take my time and try to enjoy the build and in the end you can hide stuff with trim Lol! The confidence thing definitely got to me in the beginning but I do have fun and the payoff can be surprising. I wish you the best of luck on your building adventures!

      I live in the south but we still get snow and occasionally below zero temps. I’ve found that making it as water tight as you can will help keep the heat in. At least enough to keep some cold acclimated crops like lettuce and spinach going all winter. I’m looking into making a compost heap inside the green house to create heat. Cheers

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  3 года назад +1

      If I had plans I’d happily give them away but unfortunately I just kind of winged it based off the size and shape of the shed. The roof was decided by the size of the greenhouse plastic I could afford for the project. Sorry it’s not really any help, but my suggestion is just jump in and start. I found that if you size it off the actual work space or growing space, and build around that; it will suit your needs. Best of luck! Cheers

    Best lean to greenhouse that I have seen. Can't wait for the rest of the videos. Do you have plans for this?

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 лет назад +6

      Holly's Simple Life I didn't use plans when I built it, kind of made it up as I went. The polycarbonate sheets are 2 ft wide so I built the frame around those. I ordered the sheets first and payed out the front wall to get my width 8'8" and went as high as I could at the shed to get a good pitch on the roof. The front wall ended up being almost 7' for head clearance considering a good base layer of gravel for drainage. If you'd like more in depth measurements I can trying and get together some rough plans and send them to you

  • @redwood1957

    Nice job I have a shed I would like to add onto in same way. Difference is I have windows on that wall. I am thinking this would add heat in winter but could cook it in the summer.

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 лет назад

      redwood1957 The shed did get warm inside but I can’t say for sure if made that big of a difference. I built a lean to shed on the other side too for the mower and chainsaws and I’m thinking about cutting in a window for air flow. I may install a small solar fan to circulate air. Good luck with yours, it was a fun build. Cheers!

    • @redwood1957
      @redwood1957 5 лет назад +1

      @@fireballmalone1 I still have not done this as I am concerned with moisture damage to the shed siding due to moisture from green house. Do you think I am over thinking it just do it and add vent fan. Has your common wall shown any signs of moisture build up?

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  5 лет назад

      redwood1957 I think maybe the greenhouse actually adds protection to that side of the shed in a way. If the shed is a good one, and it’s built to be outside, moisture from the greenhouse shouldn’t do any damage I don’t think. I stained my shed before building it to add a layer of protection. I say go for it!

      @@houch7640 The one I used is an all in one that I used for the whole thing. I didn't use any plans and had never built anything like it before. I wasn't able to find good plans for a lean-to greenhouse so I just started with the frame and went from there. Why use landscape fabric behind the boards? Aren't you supposed to use u joints for polycarbonate? Just asking because I'm about to buy all the materials to start and every little detail is confusing to me.... I hope mine looks half as good as yours. I'm thinking of just using 2x2s and twin wall polycarbonate sheets all the way to the ground 🤔. In crawl space opening to the shed I'm thinking about using thst 3in purple insulation wrapped in polyfilm and then boarded up. I'm concerned about humidity damaging the shed though.

    Where is the best place to find the plastic sheets you used? Is it plexiglass? Big box corrugated prices are pretty high.

    Hi! I am new to carpentry and am having a really hard time figuring out how to do a bird's mouth notch on a 1:12 roof pitch. When you made you marks on the lumber did you allow for the thickness of the ledger board? It has been my achilles' heel, so any info is much appreciated!

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  6 лет назад +1

      I can completely empathize with you on this tricky technique. Like you, I am a novice when it comes to wood work, a little trial and error helps me figure stuff out. I used quite a few small blocks to practice the cuts after I figured out my pitch. This video is the one I used when I built the greenhouse and it was the only one I could make sense of because it didn't require the Pythagorean theorem or complicated maths. Hopefully this helps and best of luck

    • @fireballmalone1
      @fireballmalone1  4 года назад

      After everything it ended up being about $800. Considering the wood came from a local Mennonite community that has better pricing on materials, but the clear sheets were a little expensive and contributed to a lot of the cost.

    Thanks for posting your videos. The greenhouse looks great! I plan on building something similar next spring (I hate aluminum frames on greenhouses), but I'm concerned about getting moisture or mildew inside the polycarbonate? It doesn't look like you sealed the ends (I might be mistaken), did you experience any moisture or mold inside the panels now after two years?
