I've been a fan of hers since finding one of her books in an Indiana public library back in the 1990s. The worldbuilding, characters, themes. One of the best writers of the past century.
I've never heard of Octavia Butler before so I'm so thankful for this report and to you, Ali, for the introduction. "Kindred" sounds interesting, fascinating and insightful and I can't wait to get a copy of it! Keep these book recommendations coming!!
Dawn was a great book, and unforgetable, and the other 2 in the series were good too. Crazy Sci Fi. She was an interesting person and way ahead of her time.
Saying a book is inappropriate for children is not the same as saying it's banned. A bigger issue is how MSDNC got rid of Mehdi Hasan for being critical of a foreign war.
@@elainedaprano9130 He officially left a week or so ago. During the war, they took him off the air (but kept all their Jewish anchors on). They didn't fire him- they demoted him and hid him from the pubic view. Because he was Muslim. It's effed up. This network is pureEvil
Check the dehumanizing video of Mehdi Hasan saying that all non Muslims are animals. As in livestock. Because Mehdi was a Muslim and a Liberal, he received a free pass on his obvious hate speech. Until Oct 7th that is. His hate speech finally caught up with him. I say good riddance.

Octavia was sci-fi genius. Love her work.

Thank you for covering her!
Thank you for this enlightening report Ali! What a great discussion and panel!! 👍
I'm both in shock and in awe of her writings. Her books are opening eyes and minds.
I remember reading parable of the sower in high school, I never forgot that book, and that was over 19 years ago..loved that book.

Thank you for the great suggestion.I now know what book to check out next library visit.
Just got a copy of "Parable of the Talents" looking forward to reading it.
Hope you started with "Parable of The Sower " 😊
Amazing writing and mind... She would be shocked to see how America has changed, and not for the better.
Just finished Wild Seed, my first Butler book. I think she might be my favourite sci fi author.
Thank you Ms. Butler. I'm going to help spread the word about your book and tell everyone in my DEI training class next week. 💙💙
🤣🤣🤣 DEI (democrat enraged indoctrination).
DEi 😂😂🤮🤮
Fascinating!
Kindred is one of my favorite books. I have reread it over and over.
Excellent interview!!
VELSHi, you truly are, ONE OF THE ✨️👤RiGHTEOUS❕️✌️ THANK Y😎U, FOR BEiNG.
Her books Parable of The Sower and Parable of The Talents are very prescient.
Terrific piece!! 👏
One of my favorite authors❤
I just bought the book, thank you for your reference and advice.
So if you just bought the book, it's not actually banned. Thank you for helping prove that Velshi's "banned book club" is a load of crap.
As an Australian I found Octavia's short stories really interesting - I will have to get "Kindred".
I have that book and it is scary, enlightening and amazing!
One of sci-fi' absolute BEST!💕💕🕊
Absolutely timely for the period we're in.
I love this book.
A prophet.

Mehdi is still on MSNBC, but he's often on several other stations, as well as writing in magazines and newspapers.

This (manifesting) wasn’t something that just happened to gained traction because of a social media incident.

Never heard of her.

All of Velshi's "banned books" can be legally printed, legally distributed, legally sold, and legally purchased in the USA = not actually banned.

It is a book tax. Poor people will have their reading selection limited while the rich will not.
