- Have you heard about Licca-chan? Licca-chan is a Japanese fashion doll that is often considered the Japanese equivalent of the Barbie doll. For more than 50 years, Licca has been a companion for children and collectors alike and has been celebrated for her "kawaii" style. In this video, we will be looking at the history of the Licca-chan doll and its evolution over the past five decades.

can you make a video about "clone barbies" from each country? Like Sindy, Fulla, Tanya, Susi, etc.
Oh! And clone Bild Lilli dolls from the 50s, before there was Barbie! I found out there were clones of Bild Lilli in Hong Kong and Spain with dark skin.

I liked talking Debbies because her clothes and shoes were perfectly interchangeable with Barbie's, with the added bonus that she could talk
I don't own *any* Licca dolls, but God I wish I did. They are absolutely beautiful and I love Japanese culture
They can be found for cheap on aliexpress! You can either buy the head, body, and clothes separately (if you want something specific) or a full doll. All for really cheap. It takes a while to ship tho.

My mom said she used to have one from a friend ages and ages ago. We both think they had a major influence on the 1988-1992 Skipper dolls.
That's so cool - by any chance was it a Lisa? 80s and early 90s Skipper really had that doe-eyed, shoujo manga vibe.

I’ve always been fascinated by Licca Chan, since I’ve always been interested in Japanese culture and fashion. I don’t have one, since I’m not from Japan, but I would love to own at least one (maybe of the new streetwear dolls).

Licca is a very cute doll, I'd like to have some but seeing how her and her huuge group of friends mostly have blonde or light brown hair must have impacted many Japanese girls in a not good way.
Japanese girls don't have hang ups about that.
@@now591 Japanese girls and women have internalized a beauty standard that is, like Licca, 'haafu' - half Japanese, half 'whatever European country is more fashionable at the moment'. In Licca's time of creation, that was France (by the way, in Japan 'European' always means blonde and blue eyed as a rule. Even most Italian characters in anime are like that - speaking from experience). This is why many Japanese women dye their hair lighter colors (not really blonde because it looks fake, but lighter browns), have monolid surgery and contour their nose bridge with makeup to make it look taller. Of course they will deny they do that to look 'haafu', they can't say it outright to save face, but it is what it is.

0:42 Original designer is Miyako Maki. an espouse to the late Leiji Matsumoto. a very legend in his own right as Mangaka.
And at a time Matsumoto even drawn women in the same style Miyako Maki does (and maybe with or without unusually long hair, something that might be his very own thinking). and this ultimately led to his evolved beauty standard that will eventually eclipsed her in Mid and late 70s.

I played with a few Licca-chan dolls growing up and I remember my grandma would put them in a display cabinet because they were just so pretty. I believe they are still in the same display cabinet because I was the only child, the dolls got preserved very well. The attention put into creating them can be easily seen on their clothes, shoes and accessories, they even come with a stand so that they can stand up straight in the display cabinet. They sure elicit fond memories from my childhood.
Now I am a mother-of-two and looking to buy one for my youngest upcoming birthday but they are hard to come by in the UK. I believe the one I had (and still have in my family home) as a child are the fourth generation and it's interesting that they needed to revert back to the 4th generation after poor reception of the 5th generation. They are simply gorgeous, some of my friends played with barbie and western toys but I didn't see their appeals after being introduced to Licca-chan.

For Master Zero. Shojo is his art evolutionary path, one that he gives the same Licca eyes to so many female characters even in Shonen genre (Battlefield series, Lightspeed Esper, Sexaroid), and leads to love of his life.. (3:43)
he has to begin with Shojo because it once had bigger market. even Shueisha's flagship brand before Shonen Jump (founded in 1968), was Ribon (And Matsumoto did submit his manga works there).

I'm pretty surprised you talk about the Chabel doll, she was quite popular on the 80ths but it's still unknown if she was really done with Takara's conset or if feber just copied the sculp
In my research I saw some Chabel stickers that were basically copies of 90s Barbie promo photos (www.flickr.com/photos/98328300@N08/10730137636). I wouldn't be surprised if Licca-chan's likeness was used without consent, like what they did with the stickers.

Ohhhh I love Licca Chan!!! When I travelled in Japan in 2015 with my 6 years old daughter, we discovered these dolls who are absolutely lovely, imaginative !! For me it was like the mangas I watched when I was child (Sailor moon, and many many popular shojo anime in France in the 80s/90s!!) I bought some of these dolls, unfortunately in France it’s not found, and extremely expensive in Internet! In Japan it’s really cheap and with so many cool accessories !

I've heard of these dolls before, they're so expensive to buy second hand. I honestly like the 1st to 2nd generation dolls, they look more child-like(since she's 11), modern licca chan looks more like a teenager/young adult. But she's still beautiful.
