Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RUclips, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RUclips. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RUclips, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

Oh man, this was right up there with my favourite Journey songs of all time! So melodic, so rockin’ and the vocals are some of Steve Perry’s best. Thanks for bringing back such sweet memories.

Never get tired of hearing Steve Perry sing. This is really an incredible performance. The control he has is unmatched in my opinion.
Although never released as a single, this dark, dynamic track really stood out on "Escape". Frankly, I loved the title track--but none of my high school friends did!--and also the "Don't Stop Believin'"" B-side "Natural Thing". Both considered deep cuts! 😜

Great reaction! In several interviews Steve Perry mentions how devastated he was when his father left him and his mother when he was a little boy. He speaks more in-depth about this in a recent interview with Dan Rather . His experience may have been influential in writing Mother Father.
There r sooo many great SP&JOURNEY songs the live videos r the way to go. This is a band that reached 4 perfection all the time. Matt is Neal 's father who was always helping the band. Please more SP&JOURNEY.

I don't know the background to this song but, I do know that Steve Perry stated this was vocally the hardest song for him. Based on your comments you need to react to "Wheel In The Sky" from the 1980 live concert from Osaka Japan! The intro is amazing and the bands interaction with the crowd is awesome!

Just saw an interview with Steve Perry and he said that his family did split and for years he always thought he did something bad to have this happen. Even to this day he carries that weight. 😢❤
Steve said this is the hardest song he sang Live. Amazes me how Johnathan Cain played standing up.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it already, but according to Jonathan Cain, Steve recorded his vocals for this song in one take.
Man this remastered version is incredible!! Sounds like I am at the concert. IMO, NEIL was a superb lead guitarist Thx buddy for your honest reactions.
Jonathan and Steve were apparently inspired by Neal's home life as a child in the writing of this song, though I think it speaks to broken homes in general as well. When Johnathan was recruited from The Babys to join Journey they restructured their style a bit and the Escape album was their first album together and it was their best selling album as well. Johnathan wrote all the music with Steve's collaberation.
Johnathan's solo at the end really remind's me of some of Supertramp's work.

The sevemth son is a very old concept, meaning that this particular person would have special powers, like healing. Steve, Jonathan and Neal were the songwriters for the most part.

About 2 Months ago the Billboard Hot 100 did a Fan Vote and " Steve Perry " was Voted the Best Singer in Rock History he got 67% of the Votes.

When you understand the lyrics, you understand the mood swings in the music. Frustration, hope, desperation, love. Neal's father, Matthew Schon, came up with some of the chord changes.
Requesting a reaction to the pre- Journey! BEFORE Perry joined. They had a hard driving blues rock sound with Santana overtones. Neil Schon's stellar guitar riffs and soaring solos along with Greg Rollie's soul driven vocals set them ahead of their time. Try " Of a Lifetime, Kahoutek, Look into the future, Topaz" Anything from their 1st album. Second album as well. Thanks! peace!

This song has always been a fave of mine growing up, as my dad was also a journey fan too, he introduced me to journey as a kid and i've a huge fan ever since, just wish i could seen them in concert back then, would have been awesome. Other faves are

Mother father was about neal schon life experience. Matt schon was neals father. He helped with the song.

I know Steve Perry was shaped in part by his parent's divorce; from what I've heard that wasca huge force pushing him into music and away from his pain.
The song was not released as a single, so the general public is not familiar with it. It's not a ballad, nor a basic rocker; more like an anthem ( maybe Cain would use that term ). It's on the Escape album, which sold a gazillion copies, so Journey fans will often know it.
The second Schon in the writing credits is probably Neal's father.
One of their best, but not played that much.
