- In this video I show you how to make Armenian manti! Manti, Մանթի, is a very popular traditional Armenian dish! If you're avoiding to make this dish because it can be time consuming, just invite a friend or a family member over and have them help you fold the manti pieces (to speed up the process). It's so fun and rewarding in the end!!! Armenian Manti is a very unique dish and delicious! I hope you try to make this recipe!
What you'll need:
1 pack of pre-made wonton dough
1 lb ground beef (lean)
1 onion
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp all spice
Salt
Tomato Soup:
1 1/2 cans of tomato juice
2 cups of water
Dried mint leaves
Olive oil
Salt
Yogurt: (measurements depend on how much yogurt you want to use)
I used...
3 cups of yogurt
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
Salt

This is very similar to how we make it. We also use the Wonton wrapers. We never thought of using our blender to puree the onion. That's a great idea. We use a little less meat per dumpling and we omit the allspice (use salt and pepper only). We bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes and we make 2 pans. Watch it carefully so as not to burn it but allow it to get a nice brown on the edges. One pan we leave "Dry" and serve it with Madzoon (yogurt with garlic) and the other pan we make "Wet" Manti by adding one 12 oz can of low sodium chicken broth during the final 10 minutes of baking, so the pan needs to have sides to hold the liquid. We allow the Manti to start getting brown before adding the chicken broth and then baking it 10 more minutes. Both Dry and Wet are served with Madzoon. Delicious!!!

Is this the same as the "Manti" or "Mantu" that the people of northeast Asia refer to? Hazara in Afghanistan, Buryat Mongols in Russia...they have similar named dishes. I don't know if it was the Turks or Mongols that spread the dish.
Yeah. The same-the similar dish. And yes, Turks and Mongolians spread the dish.
Instead of wonton wrappers, do you think it would work with pie dough?
