I'm almost 60 now and can't get over the music I grew up with in the Disco's....... Listen to that orchestra GO ! Absolutely Incredible ! I still know every word and every sound like it was yesterday !
Exactly, outclasses a lot of the dance music of today's era.
Absolutely, I love it ❤️
@@elipuebla2537 Yes I agree 💯
What else would you expect coming from one of the best orchestras of the day. When music was music.
I'm almost 60 too and remember when dance was so real, truly spirited ❤
I consider myself to be so fortunate to have spent my 20's in dance clubs on LI and NYC, starting in the 1973. WHAT A TIME!! To this day, my IPOD 1970's dance play list is the longest at over to five hours, and i still add songs. It's songs like this one, the Village People, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Trammps, Harold Melvin, Archie Bell, et al, listening on W B L S, the Worlds Best Looking Sound - Frankie Crocker (RIP), Ken Webb, JD Holliday (RIP), Vaughan Harper (RIP), Lemarr Renee, et al. Oh, how i wish i could spend another weekend dancing, dancing and dancing.
56 and still discovering disco I havnt heard, Where was RUclips 40 years ago!!!
I'm a late disco convert and finding records like this gives me life.
Welcome!🕺🎼🕺🎼
Indeed 👑 As Music Is Life,For Real 🥂💯
@@sandragrant8488 NYC WAS THE ONLY PLACE TOO BE BACK THEN DISCO WAS KING
I wish I could've been there 😭🤌🏾@@salrusso1233
Younger than most here. How many were introduced to this because of “Precious?”
I remember my Dad listening to this album. He introduced me to the best music ever written and produced, Good Times...Thank You Daddy..Missing You.
Amazing album!
Your Dad had an excellent taste in music. my dad was a heavy influence in my musical experiences, more classical as he as an excellent classical guitarist but I understand and sympathize. You were blessed to have him as a dad.
Same, my dad put me on this and now when I'm chilling w friends, I wanna vibe to this and not that garbage they listen to 😂
Pleaseee recommend some stuff
He gifted you this
Listening to the lyrics as an adult to some of these old song is a little heart wrenching. As a kid you just love the beat and you don't understand the lyrics, but then you live a little, get some experience and really these songs are quite painful but in a sweet way.
Indeed. Lessons learned, not all good but this music makes up for or erases the pain. Jean's music always does that to my soul.
They were not only great musicians, but their songs were the product of valuable life lessons. A winning combination!
You are so so right.. 👍
Without emotions in music songs wouldn't be timeless...
So true.
Who’s still wit me in 2021 and beyond ❤️
ODELL'S, Baltimore, Maryland this is the cut. The string arrangements and lyrics are incredible. Man I miss the 80's, but thank you You Tube for allowing us to regain the pass in true passion!!!
Those arrangements are incredible. Thanks to PIR, The Sound of Philadelphia and of course the Iceman who co-produced this song.
"Wayne Davis " of "Odell's" Baltimore , Md would have the entire dancefloor at Odell's in a frenzy by the time this song reached the break. I will always cherish the memories and the song.
You better say so❣️
Still one of the greatest disco songs.
I remember hearing this song in 1979 while preparing to go out dancing to the village in NYC.Such glorious times.
I remember those times as well. When people could hustle & the music at the clubs was slammin'. Miss those days!
Yo tambien.
I would give anything to have lived one night, NYC, end 70's...
@@Islanddude83 Yes, it was a groove, but then there was 1980, John Lennon's death, and it ended. The "street life" became a form of degeneracy.
@@RichardKoenigsberg thanks for sharing
My mom played this album
My sister and I loved it!!
We would sing with our hair brushes
You know the microphones lol Great times! Real music!
My Mom too; always will hold this song near and dear to my ❤🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😊

Thankyou!! :p
Are we going to talk about those vocals ? This woman can sing !
Listen to her sing Ain't No Way by Aretha. It will blow your mind; right up there with Jennifer Holliday.
i always say it's amazing how after all these years, when you listen again, you remember the flow and measured ability in her tone...truly gifted vocalist....it's church, right?
Yes voice is beautiful
You should hear her doing some Jazz!!!! She was amazing, and a very friendly person to meet as well.
Phenomenal!!!
Disco was the shit and still is rocking this is where Hip Hop came from people from the 1970 s great beautiful music 🎵🎶
Mo'Nique in the "Precious" movie dancing in kitten heels and shaking them thunder thighs, and showing her hairy armpits will forever be how I remember this song 😂😂
I moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1979 and this was truly one of my favorite after club hours songs. Just a sexy song for those awesome and sexy one night stands. Boy do I romance those days in my 20's in Fort Lauderdale with great songs like this one from Jean Carn. Glad I made it into my 60's and looking back at the best music ever. Love love ❤
Incredible song...... I'm 52 and never stopped listening to this stuff..... I created a monster in my 29 year old son who knows all of this stuff like I do..... What's not to like !
His dad taught him well!
You're passing on Great Taste!
You done a good thing...teaching him what real music is/was!
ToddR4824 It appears the force is strong with this young warrior....
Great parenting 👍🎵💃🏻
God what happened to Black music??? This is just absolutely brilliant. Today's stuff just can't compare to the sheer quality and sophistication

Extremely underrated! Jean Carne is beyond amazing!!!
She Myth 👌
She is SOOOOOOO Unsung!!! (And a genuinely nice person as well)
And a very nice humble musician at that!!!😻
💯%TRUE👍🏻👊😎
The lyric is the story of my youth in NYC dance scene in the 70s, 80s and 90s......I was blessed
OMG! The Bass Line on this is hypnotic!!
This was one of my pre club songs. Getting pumped up heading out to catch the 10:30pm bus hit the culb by 11 and this song playing once I get there. 19 in 1979 life was good. About to hit 60, and this takes me back each time I hear it.
Peace
Def a pre-club jam 👍🏿

Mannnnn bring me back to this era no other music compares and her vocals DOPE!!!
The last I heard that song in 1979 I was seventeen years old. I was living in The Bronx New York. I miss those times.
JAMES DELORN HOWLAND JR. i used to live in the Bronx at this time too. Now living in NC but still listening to it in May, 2019!
Ok
I was ten in Manhattan
I use to do the hustle on this song lol
Fact Fact 2019th im From the Bronx this is House Party Music 😀😀😀😀
All time classic ..this is pure platinum. Takes me back. Timeless ! Great sounds in the late 70's
The incomparable Jean Carne!!!! Top Vocals!!! Top Tune!!! Absolute Classic!!!
I am a 70's born child !! THIS IS REAL MUSIC WITH MEANING !! LISTEN TO THE WORDS !!!
My gosh, this is a beautiful track. Reading the lyrics, it sounds so melancholy as a tale of longing and lost love, but in the vocals of Jean, with those sublime Philly backing musicians, it takes on a new life. This fusion of soaring music, soulful vocals and yet, haunting lyrics, has brought a fullness to my heart and stirs something deep inside. Thank you for sharing this lovely lovely tune 🙏❤️
Very nicely written. You could be a music critic or writer.
You are absolutely on target, about such talented
musicians.!!!!! Unfortunately they are a dissapearing breed, compared to nowadays.!!!
I second that. I'm from NYC. This era I lived to the fullest. There are moments of sadness but happiness at the end. My favorite from Jean is Free Love.
after all these years it's crazy that a person can clearly remember the vocal riffs of the one and only Jean Carne...
One if the few Philly soul classics that the extended 12" improves it.
The bass line and violin is sublime...
Sublime indeed
It’s perfect
It's awesome
Sounds like a clarinet and trombone playing in the background, too.
Great song.
but not as sublime as the vocals.
Aaaaaah man, I could listen to a 10 hour long version of this heavenly track. It's so fkn divine.
Greatest1979 good hustle jam

I'm older cousin Freeda "sunshine " hip me to this song and artist. We had great times. RIP Freeda.🥰
I'm a native of Chicago and if you know who Ron Hardy was he definitely played this jam at The Music Box. Miss those days. Very soulful voice. They don't make them like this anymore.
There should be no thumbs down at all...
Hey bud. You just stumbled upon one of the greatest songs in recorded history. Get up and move for 8 min, and feel this woman's feelings.
"HOUSEHEAD" For life.
🌷💃Absolutely💃🌷
"Closer than Close" was the only song I knew by Jean Carne...discovering her other music has been a treasure. Underrated for sure and this woman can sing!

OMG!!! How I used to play this song to death back in the day as well as Valentine Love her hit duet with Michael Henderson !! i always loved her beautiful voice and had the pleasure of seeing her perform years ago in a Mount Vernon, N.Y. jazz club. She put on a FANTASTIC performance!! A truly classy lady!
Indeed. That was a sweet song they did. If it was JC then I know she made that event more than worth your while.
I LOVE THE WAY SHE SANG THIS AND THE MUSIC IS ON POINT!
Beautiful! So soulful and I LOOVE the music of the 80s. Brings back innocent times.
Thank you Studio 54 radio station for playing it the other day. Brought back so many memories bring back in NYC…good old days.

lovely comment!
Beautiful, Roy‼️ True love never dies & I also believe I will reunite with those I too have lost.
This Record. Not to mention many more, was never played enough for us to enjoy her sweet beautiful voice. I blame it on the record business, they only want No#1 hits, to line their pockets,. This record here needed to be played more on the air waves so that everyone knew how special she was. Jean Carn was Top Class amongst the Best. Duly Noted. F - Record Companies/ Producers/ and Promotional personell, its only a money game.
💯% TRUE just money not Quality bro u knw ur music respect 👊💪😎🎯
No surpise. It's bidness. Too late for finger pointing. Just enjoy the music
this song will transcend generations for its content between man and women, never mind the great singer that sang it
the one and only....this, kids, is MUSIC for people who can dance. can you honestly say that about much of todays music?
Nobody is singing like this today!
Heard this today at the gym. Couldn’t stop my head bouncing like I was on the disco dance floor.
DC. HOWARD U

First time I heard this -- Flamingo NYC -- what joyous days those were.
Best song from "Precious" soundtrack.
Not only is this a classic song and is still relevant and danceable today, in my youth this was the song drag queens could lip sync and give dramatic affects while performing, and, drew the kids to the dance floor!!! Yeeeeeees 🥳🤗👌🏾
This song is the definition of the 70s...
Out of sight out of mind forever . Love it
Even at a very young age, I was drawn to songs with deep, reflective lyrics. I can remember being on the dancefloor, working up a sweat with a tear in my eye.
Empath? I can relate to that kind of response to music.
Amen Q. The best feeling was to feel the singers, amd instruments on the dance floor.
Favorite HUSTLE song!!!
