I would say that a real zangbeto does not require a human propeller. It requires a real faith though. Since faith in some communities no more, humans get inside and it is turned into a show, nothing more

I think real genuine Zangbetos do exist but as you said some of them might be faked.
When I was in Benin I dated a girl who danced in the Zangbeto and helped her build the costume. It is known by almost everyone except a few kids, that there is a person inside.

Not true, sorry... what is wll known, is that you have some cities that cannot do the real voodoo. And some can I'm from France. What the Africans don't know, is that our ancients from some decades (maybe 10 or 15, and of course much much more in the middle age), had a lot of whitchcraft. And there are some still, but less, because of modernity. Also black magic, white magic. Druids, in the west more, in France, there are, too. !
So don't think in Europe, everyboby claims nothing magic can exist. Only the ones who think they are more intelligent "as the false thinkers say, who call themselves "Cartesians", very proud of that, while there are no more stupid than those who call themselves that way !
