One time I would love for Avaryl to lie about who else was considered for the main roles with the most absurd suggestions just to see Andrew's reaction
My favorite thing about the iconic shopping scene is when Romy and Michele watch it in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion because of Lisa Kudrow's delivery of "Sorry I just get really excited when they let her shop."
I was just watching 30 Rock and in the episode where Jack takes Liz to Prince Gerhardt's birthday party, he buys her a diamond necklace and snaps the case at her. Liz Lemon gets mad and yells at Jack, because she's not a Pretty Woman.
i feel like pretty woman is what 50 shades of ray should have been. like, yeah, let's get rougher, but the chemistry between the characters is SO good in pretty woman. undeniable.
First Clueless? Then Clue? And now Pretty Woman? Did someone send you a list of my favourite movies to review? (all I need now is Soapdish and I'll be the happiest gay around)
You two are honestly one of my favorite youtube reviewers, I always feel like I came away from your videos learning something new or seeing something in a new light. And you don't ever seem to be putting on an act or playing up your personalities, you both seem to have so much fun it's like hanging out with friends [who are super smart about movies]
The way that I would scream if y’all ever did one or both the Sister Act films as retro reviews... My last suggestion was the Birdcage and that was *inspired* so just take my word on this. Do a double feature, two part episode; Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock always mix me up tbh. I was like "man, Julia Roberts was great in Practical Magic...nope, wait, that was Sandy." Btw you guys should review Practical Magic :D
Starmongoose1991 you should watch the Jenna and Julien podcast where Jenna quizzes Julien on Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Anne Hathaway because he can’t tell any of them apart. So funny.
One of my all time favorite movies!! Ever since I was little I noticed (and it very much irked me) that the croissant she eats at the morning after breakfast turns into a pancake. It’s a continuity error. Had always stood out to me.
Have either of you seen the director's cut? It's on the laser disc (LOL) and one version on DVD. They had more development for Edward in a couple of scenes. I remember one scene where he's outside his 'business meeting' walking around in the grass with no shoes before he decides to build ships instead of sell the company- harks back to her making him take the day off and he has to put his shoes back on cause he's so rigid still. Loved this review of one of my favorites. Wish you would have mentioned how perfect both the soundtrack and the score were! James Newton Howard's score is criminally unreleased to the public, but the other reason the kissing scene soars is that moving piece he made in the background! Thanks cunts!
Always a good time seeing when y'all upload *insert joke about gerbils* edit: ALSO opera nerding here - opera is gay because of Maria Callas (and La Traviata was a staple role of hers) whose spot on Fabulous Cunt Island I will CONTINUE to campaign for
This made me want to rewatch Pretty Woman and American Giglo -- which I am surprised wasn't mentioned. I think there were a couple of allusions that Richard Gere played a prostitute himself.
Guys... please retro review The Notebook. I’m actually dying for you to do it. I’ve heard you mention it frequently which got me to watch it and my god I had never ugly cried as hard in about 4 years.
You guys are killing it with the retro reviews! First labyrinth and now pretty woman! All my childhood favorites, although my favorite part about this movie is romy and Michele making fun of it...
when i was really young like about 7 my sister and i watched pretty woman and i was so young i had no idea what a prostitute was or what was happening in the film but i thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. i remember laughing so much during the piano scene because i had no idea what was going on, safe to say this film is for all ages in my eyes
While re-watching this, it reminded me of that movie the wedding date with Debra messing and dermot McDermott (lol) and how depressed I was after watching that movie. Which is kinda a female driven version of this, but not and more melodramatic, and ugh! Don't retro review that, please, which is the only time I ever thought that...
YASS! just in time in for lunch. should i rewatch it first or just watch trust in your impeccible skills of description and clips to bring it all back.......i cant wait! watching you!!!!!!!!
Speaking of princess diaries. These two movies share 3 cast members. Jo is the hotel manager, pablo is the customer service worker who sucks up to them, and Charlotte is the receptionist at the hotel
I saw this in the theater when I was in college, and I remember thinking, "This is a great movie, and it's also a movie for grownups," which is something you don't see too much of anymore. Everyone in the movie is an adult, and even the fantasy scenes are fantasies that adult people have. Richard Gere is so dreamy and Julia Roberts showed why she was a star. I'd love a retro review of "Mystic Pizza," where I just fell in love with Julia Roberts the first time.
It would be a very different movie if Sandra Bullock played Viv. Rather than a lighthearted romp it would have been more of an emotional journey, but I can see it working, I'm here for it. Two different movies, both would be good, but both would be different.
This is like one of my favorite movies!!!! Julia Roberts was so beautiful and Richard Gere was so handsome. Hey have y'all considered doing a movie review for imitation of life?
you guys how did anne not win an oscar for princess diaries?? also if you ever bring up a julie andrews movie i have a heart attack!! i love her and you guys so much!!!!! also a package is now on the way from MN
Regarding the mystery of why this movie works: 1. Deft writing. Cinderella stories are decidedly unmodern. PW cleverly diverts from "the down-on-her-luck-woman finds all she needs in life via a rich husband" by criticizing Gere character's career of deconstructing companies, seemingly much more so then Roberts (who would probably be shamed, somehow, in lesser hands). Roberts is placed in a vulnerable position without it being pitiable. 2. Actor charisma. This is why Ross from Friends works in the series but if you actually think about it - despite his bike to Phoebe - he is the odd one out. He is obsessive, weird, jealous, neurotic, annoying... people just probably wouldn't be friends with the guy in real life IMHO (all 5 of the others I could see). Gere and Roberts are selling a part to you, and you're buying what they're selling even if doesn't work that way in real life. You have an audience willing to suspend disbelief. 3. Pitch perfect casting. Besides the actors doing their jobs, the casting agents have to do theirs. And that's finding people who cannot only do the above thing, they have the right je ne sais quois to bring these two characters at this point in time to life (do they look the part? Are they old enough for the part? Do their personalities sell the part? Are they attractive? Are they too attractive? Etc.) Avril said in one video, Richard Gere seems like kind of a weird guy, like Gere's role in the movie. He is.. his wikipedia is page is kind of all over the place, checkered with various political causes (its actually endearing), but basically you'd buy this guy having an existential crisis doing this corporate job. His role was probably the harder of the two to cast, but Julia is Julia. She has her million mega-watt smile, her infectious laughter... plus the fact that she married Lyle Lovett post facto kind of shows she's kind of a weirdo in that she's not very superficial, with respect to Mr. Lovett. So we have two weirdos in love. And it works. Boy it would not work with Matthew McConaghey and Anne Hathaway, and they're a little odd too.
Loved this review, really gave me a good giggle. Had no clue about the cast options and as said, it really made a difference. Also, please retro review Princess Diaries! Need to have the comparison too, particularly cast wise.
@MovieBitches Maybe you have, maybe you haven't, but I'd love to see a review of "Steel Magnolias". All of the actresses do a stellar job, and it was my intro to Julia. Great movie!
Random fact Larry Miller was supposed to play George Costanza (Jason Alexander's character in Seinfeld Andrew!) That might be one of his most clueless moments even if he didn't remember his name how can you not recognize George. So it was so weird to see them both in a movie knowing that this was probably filmed right around the same time that Seinfeld was starting.
Since it's mid august I feel like it's time for me to start a campaing for Practical Magic be the Haloween Review of this year, like, the movie is 20th years anniversary this year, the soundtrack is amazing, the cast is filled with fabulous cunt like Sandra Bullock, Stockard Channing, Nicole Kidman and Dianne Wiest as the main cast, Goran Višnjić as a really scary and real villain, Aidan Quinn as the love interest. They're all three dimensional characters in a well written story that totally deserves a Retro Review specially after Nicole and Sandra talked about this movie at the Oscars.
How can you mention that this is the princess diaries and forget to mention Hector Elizondo is in both!!! Also, now i need a double feature of this and the Princess Diaries.
One time I would love for Avaryl to lie about who else was considered for the main roles with the most absurd suggestions just to see Andrew's reaction
oh! she should do it like 2 truths and a lie, and andrew has to guess which one was fake!
My favorite thing about the iconic shopping scene is when Romy and Michele watch it in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion because of Lisa Kudrow's delivery of "Sorry I just get really excited when they let her shop."
Braden Poapst Yes!
I was thinking of that, too! Speaking of movies that I'd love a retro review of ...
I was just watching 30 Rock and in the episode where Jack takes Liz to Prince Gerhardt's birthday party, he buys her a diamond necklace and snaps the case at her. Liz Lemon gets mad and yells at Jack, because she's not a Pretty Woman.
Love the vid as always! Please retro review The Devil Wears Prada. Let Meryl redeem herself from your Mamma Mia reviews lmao
Andrew's dramatic sigh when he finds out about the dad in Beethoven made my day! So cute and genuine ☺
not sure what i'm living for more. the hour episode, Avaryl's curls, or the matching pastel bottoms
Matching Pastel Bottoms is my favorite band!
i literally rewatched this last night. this coincidence is too extreme. i'm calling the cops
I'm not sure anyone other than Richard Gere could play this part....He's super hot, but still a little skeezy.
i feel like pretty woman is what 50 shades of ray should have been. like, yeah, let's get rougher, but the chemistry between the characters is SO good in pretty woman. undeniable.
50 Shades of Ray is a documentary about Ray Charles' sunglasses
First Clueless? Then Clue? And now Pretty Woman? Did someone send you a list of my favourite movies to review? (all I need now is Soapdish and I'll be the happiest gay around)
I love how much you guys love that wine stomping lady falling out of her barrel.
I’m the one who sent you the Charade VHS. Please consider doing a retro review of it! Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant...classic!
Love that movie!
In case I forget to tell you later, I had a really good time watching this retro review.
The way that I would scream if y’all ever did one or both the Sister Act films as retro reviews... My last suggestion was the Birdcage and that was *inspired* so just take my word on this. Do a double feature, two part episode; Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.
Oh my god, you should totally review Secretary! All this James Spader talk lately is triggering me lol
Make it so.
"Ya know, even though we've watched Pretty Woman like 36 times, I never get tired of making fun if it"
Jamie Taylor oh no, they won’t let her shop
Jordan Grosshart THAT movie, makes me love THIS movie sooo much more 💁🏼🙅🏼
"Yeah like those sales girls in Beverly hills aren't bigger whores than she is." Romy and Michelle retro review!
Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock always mix me up tbh. I was like "man, Julia Roberts was great in Practical Magic...nope, wait, that was Sandy."
Btw you guys should review Practical Magic :D
Starmongoose1991 you should watch the Jenna and Julien podcast where Jenna quizzes Julien on Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Anne Hathaway because he can’t tell any of them apart. So funny.
I always tough the "neither do I" meant to make her fell safe. Like, "if you don't kiss, I'll respect that". #consent
I thought you all were gonna rip this to shreds. It was so cool you truly enjoyed it and shared your enjoyment of the movie.
One of my all time favorite movies!!
Ever since I was little I noticed (and it very much irked me) that the croissant she eats at the morning after breakfast turns into a pancake.
It’s a continuity error.
Had always stood out to me.
We just figured she moved on from a croissant to a pancake
Omg I had to go find out why I know Gary Marshall's face. He was the devil in Hocus Pocus. No wonder I know him!
Have either of you seen the director's cut? It's on the laser disc (LOL) and one version on DVD. They had more development for Edward in a couple of scenes. Ever since I saw the teaser of Andrew having no idea who Laura San Giacomo was, I've been waiting for this with bated breath...
Retro review Chicago!!!!
This made me want to rewatch Pretty Woman and American Giglo -- which I am surprised wasn't mentioned. I think there were a couple of allusions that Richard Gere played a prostitute himself.
Hello lovelies. That Labyrinth episode was epic. Always love the casting discussions and the hair critiques.
Thanks for the amazing content💜
Guys... please retro review The Notebook. I’m actually dying for you to do it. I’ve heard you mention it frequently which got me to watch it and my god I had never ugly cried as hard in about 4 years.
Yaaaay another review!!! Also I NEED you guys to review Crazy Rich Asians, just saw it and it was SO GOOD
You guys are killing it with the retro reviews! First labyrinth and now pretty woman! All my childhood favorites, although my favorite part about this movie is romy and Michele making fun of it...

Andrew just described the Angel storyline from Pose
You guys gotta review it
Jason They seem to not be too fond of Ryan Murphy's work. Lol
Lol! I know but Ryan Murphy knew to step back from this series and the let directors take control. Maybe that's why it's good 🤣
Please retro review Showgirls and/or The Room (2003)! Thanks for the great Pretty Woman review!!
Willam would be great in a drag queen pretty woman
Andrew's gay version of pretty woman is literally Country Act's music video for Ugly lol
lol this movie and heartbreakers were my favorite when i was 7
While re-watching this, it reminded me of that movie the wedding date with Debra messing and dermot McDermott (lol) and how depressed I was after watching that movie. Which is kinda a female driven version of this, but not and more melodramatic, and ugh! Don't retro review that, please, which is the only time I ever thought that...
larry miller! who also played paolo, the stylist in “the princess diaries”, co-starting hector elizondo. 🤷🏼♂️
YASS! just in time in for lunch. should i rewatch it first or just watch trust in your impeccible skills of description and clips to bring it all back.......i cant wait! watching you!!!!!!!!

Speaking of princess diaries. These two movies share 3 cast members. Jo is the hotel manager, pablo is the customer service worker who sucks up to them, and Charlotte is the receptionist at the hotel

Another example of the maternal aspects: when she is helping him with the tie. Great review you two....first time viewer.
It would be a very different movie if Sandra Bullock played Viv. Rather than a lighthearted romp it would have been more of an emotional journey, but I can see it working, I'm here for it. Two different movies, both would be good, but both would be different.

This takes me back to my childhood, which is disturbing. Richard and Julia’s chemistry and level of sexiness jumps off the screen! 🤤🤤
Retro Review of "Nights in Rodanthe" maybe? I just wanna see you guys tear that movie to shreds.
Do a retro review of Splash!!
Watching your videos makes me so happy!
I just listened to you two talk about Pretty Woman for an hour, and didn't get bored... That's saying something....
I am ALL for a remake of Pretty Woman with a daddy and a drag queen! Maybe staring Cheyenne Jackson & Courtney Act?
reid strand yes .... just yes !!!
YAS I LOVE PRETTY WOMAN! Richard Gere is so good looking and charismatic in this movie and in general!
Yes. You're 100% on it. Fantastic and holds up!
This is like one of my favorite movies!!!! Julia Roberts was so beautiful and Richard Gere was so handsome. Hey have y'all considered doing a movie review for imitation of life?
The Pretty Woman musical is out on Broadway now!! Perfect timing!
The painting behind Avryl's head, 9 movies in from the left.... WHAT MOVIE IS THAT??? Vlifford? Clifford? Life Of?
Made the screen bigger and it's "Life Force " A 90s movie about an alien that sucks people's life. That's all I got.
Andrew gasping at the realization of what Charles Grodin would have done to this movie made me laugh so hard! 😭
Love your reviews!
I liked it before it started #loveyouguys
I hope you guys do a review for Return To Oz!
3000 Dallah and a sickening amount of gerbils.
You should look up "Soldier's Girl" It's a straight army guy who falls for a transfemale cabaret performer. It's really well done.
you guys how did anne not win an oscar for princess diaries?? also if you ever bring up a julie andrews movie i have a heart attack!! i love her and you guys so much!!!!! also a package is now on the way from MN

Charles Grodin shockface needs to be a t-shirt.
Its true that this movie doesn't turn into a #ShesNotLikeOtherSluts situation!!
Saw the remake of Overboard with Anna Faris on a plane and actually enjoyed it! There’s an adorable Swoosie Kurtz bit
Completely unrelated- have you guys watched POSE yet? Ever think to do an overall review of the season?
I'm rewatching this right when you guys released the All Stars 5 finale.
Shea couleé can wait 20 min while I'm with Julia Roberts
I must re-watch this now! I really hope the movie poster was something like "Prostitution has never been so fun!"

I would love if you guys reviewed "Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown". I know it's in spanish but it is so so so funny
I literally just watched this movie the other day! And i was thinking if you'd ever review this. You are!! 😍😍
Pretty Woman is amazing, but my generation’s romcom is Maid In Manhattan. Everyone my age I know loves it.
You're not biased. Every movie would be better with Harrison Ford full stop.
Yes finally!! I love this film and Princess Diaries definitely needs to be done. My mum will always quote “big mistake”
no has to be pretty man starring trevonte rhondes as the richard greer role and shin jae ha as julia roberts (or maybe even ludi lin)
My auntie owns the whole polo outfit and I love it
How many times have you talked about reviewing The Notebook?
Please do it already!
What a wonderful gift and surprise!
I love Satisfaction! I have seen it many times. That would be a great retro review.
The Musical that just opened on Broadway is actually really good in my opinion
I love this and I loooooooove you guys !!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How can you mention that this is the princess diaries and forget to mention Hector Elizondo is in both!!! Also, now i need a double feature of this and the Princess Diaries.
