do you use stainless steel nails or galvanized? also you didn't mention that you had to drill new holes for the last tile, maybe the first one should have 2 nails also?

Generally we use galvanized nails.
Most tiles come with 2 holes in it. The only time we need to drill a hole is if the tile is cut short.
