The thing I noticed about MK3 is that whenever you win a fight, the AI goes into a sort of berserk mode until you lose a fight.

I actually miss when fatalities were a bit more hokey like that. MKX started making it an uncomfortable level of realistic, so I've sadly been a bit distant from the MK series.

I remember my primary "strategy" was to play as Scorpion/"Human" Smoke and just teleport punch → harpoon → auto combo, repeat.
You needed exploits. The ai was garbage in this game.

i was a kid when i saw my cousin playing this game on sega saturn? (i cant remember) and he gave me the 2nd controler to play....and obviously i was mashing everything thinkin i was playing.Years later he told me that the controler wasnt even pluged in....what a dick.
Still i loved fighting games during the 90s and early 2000~ but after ps1/arcades era i stoped playing fighting games.
Everything now is giant flashings on screen.

The cheapness of the AI is what I mostly hated about the arcade games. I would always be playing SF2 but when my money ran out I would hang around the arcade and watch the other kids play MK and get frustrated on the Shang Tsung or Shao Kahn, it was then I realized these last bosses were made to suck your quarters.

All they need is a remaster of the PS1 version, add in the N64 exclusive Khameleon, rebalanced gameplay, remove the Shang Tsung loading thing, etc.

That Fatality was INCREDIBLE, all it was missing was like a silly spring sfx.
This game was insanely half assed but luckily it is extremely fun to play.

i was wit mk since the first arcade(im old as fucking dirt) this game i think was the pinnacle of the series before it went to the new stuff, this game had everything in it and that was the single best moment in gaming for me.

These games were designed to take as many quarters as they could from you in the arcades. That's why Shao Khan is so cheap and hard to beat unless you cheese him. The game also turns the difficulty WAY up if you are doing to well and winning every fight without dying. That's why you want to pretend to kinda suck at the game once in awhile. If you just try and stomp every enemy the game will crush you after a few rounds. You gotta let the ai beat you every 2-3 fights but only let them get 1 victory, not a complete win. That's enough to trick the ai into thinking you aren't super good at the game.
And this is where I made the cut after few games to check out.

I'm not sure if my favorite part is that absolutely stunning flip you upside down fatality, or the fact that Shao Khan doesn't have a laugh sound most of the time, but DOES quack like a duck every time he does a special move.
Another messed up thing about games back then is there was no manual or anything showing you button commands. You just had to figure that shit out lol

Uh.. While I didn't know Khameleon was N64 exclusive, the PS1 version had Kotaro and Goro. Unless I'm missing something. Which I don't think I am since I knew the codes to unlock practically everything.
...Also can't recall N64 having Human Sub-Zero, but I may just be forgetting...

With Rain you can lightning bolt to water ball/lift the enemy up and towards you, follow up with infinite roundhouse kick until death. They will never touch the ground until after they are dead.
"we just give up" is probably the best description for Rain's uppercut fatality. UMK3/MKT had a lot of mediocre decapitation finishers.

for Shao Kahn I used to crouch as soon as the round began, wait for him to do that dumb rising charge knee attack, and uppercut. rinse and repeat. eventually block his shoulder charge.

Looking at this like, “why did MK have to change?” I personally stopped playing after 4 but this was one of my gripes with playing it til this day. Something about the look and feel, even the fatalities, that made this MK and titles before it great imo. I can’t begin to explain how much time my brother and me spent learning animalities.
MK9 felt like a legit return/homage to the classic MK games. I personally didn't enjoy MKX as much as 9, and after I saw the abysmal story of 11, I never bothered buying it.

Easiest way for me to beat Shao Kahn in MK3 / Trilogy - stay crouched, and when Kahn does his upward shoulder ram, uppercut him, immediately run up to him and hit him with another uppercut before he gets the chance to get back up, repeat. (uppercut, run it, uppercut, run in...) It’s “cheap”, but so is Shao Kahn, so fuck it lol
Oh Max.... the N64 version was released BEFORE the Ps1/Saturn/PC versions. However, it's prototype had the potential to be a slighty better game than the final version we got (N64 version of course).
PC version is the best though

I had this on ps1 years ago it was so fun spamming rain's lightning in the bridge stage and watching the stage fatality
I hope you know that you can infinite roundhouse kick someone to death as Rain. His roundhouse kick is actually one of his special moves. You can kick someone back and forth until they die and they will never touch the ground or be able to do anything about it. Also Classic Sub Zero is the best character in the game. His 8 hit combo into a side kick and slide does the most damage in the game. I am a master at this game and still remain undefeated to this day. I prefer Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the SNES though. Oh one other tip... when you hit someone with rains ball, you can actually move the character around with the d-pad. You can push them away from you, pull them towards you or lift them up higher into the air.
The game allowed you to choose 3 characters for Shang to morph into if you didn't want the game pausing. It's when morphing was 100% enabled that the game would pause. Aggressor makes you faster and more powerful for a few seconds when it fills up.
I played MK Trilogy on the N64 religiously as a child. Shang Tsung was my main, followed by Smoke and Rain.
The N64 version has absolutely no load time

I dunno if this is a fun fact for anyone, but this was the first game where Reptile has green blood. Although some later games revert to using red blood, this was the first graphical hint of Reptile's origin.
As for why the last Kombat Pack only had three characters, I have a feeling NRS is gauging the response and waiting to see if the engagement is still there. There's no use pouring any effort in a game that no one is interested in anymore. They might save those characters on a shelf and use them for let's say Shaolin Monks or MK12. Who knows?
Simple Rain combo: Lightning Strike, Roundhouse, Upper Cut
They split the season up, they had Sheeva, Fujin and Robocop, now its Mileena, Rain and Rambo. Kombat Pack 1 had 6 characters, but they labeled the first three in the second wave as "Aftermath" to sell the story along with it. Its hard to say if there will be more after these characters or not, but if they are then they're working on this now, if not they're working on Injustice 3 now.
Its so true with turning your brain off with old school fighting games with me. I would spend HOURS trying to beat a boss on the hardest difficulty all night. Give up. Wake up the next morning and beat him/her first try.
Cool cheese with Rain: Control Bubble them above you -> Back + HK -> Repeat
Run pressure works. Jump in is the best way.
The n64 version has less characters, low quality music, and missing a lot of little things that the Saturn, ps1, and pc version have

I used to think MK went to shit when they switched to 3D, but now I realise that it happened when they stopped hiring martial artists to play the characters.
Just check how better it feels to see, even more PLAY a ninja or Kung Lao in this game rather than Stryker or Sindel or the replacement Johnny Cage

Fun Fact: In MK Trilogy, they forgot to program the AI to react on Rain's Water Ball. You can literally spam Water Ball and the AI will stand idle, taking it to the face every time.
