//spoilers Oguma was an okay dad, just not great. He wanted to be great, which is why I think the 'ending of his arc' so to speak was all the more heartbreaking. He probably had a million things he wanted to say to Louis before it ended, and never got the chance to. He probably wouldn't even be able to find the words.
It was really sad to me cuz he once said that he didn’t go see loui’s plays because he wanted the first time he saw him at his best to be on his wedding day. But he didn’t get to see either of those 😭
Ibuki, "Louis, you are like a son to me..." Louis, "Awww..." Ibuki, "I ate my last kid." Louis,"...I sense you're trying to tell me something..." Ibuki, "NOM!"
Oguma and Louis' relationship is one of the most unique once I've ever seen. Great video. Though to be honest, any video talking about Ibuki and my other 8 fave lions in the world is a great vid in my books. Just a little note: Ibuki wasn't raised in the hyper drug business, he was sold by his parents at age 12, escaped and joined Shishigumi at 18. (I have the omake explaining this saved up with some other ones).
Broke brain: getting one father figure Woke brain: getting tow father figures Hyperwoke brain: becoming a mob boss and getting roughly 17 father figures in the process.
Not to mention Legoshi's biological father is kind of nonexistent in the manga. We have no idea who he is in character--all we know is that he's A) a wolf, B) a male model, so very tall features, C) him and Leano weren't in a serious relationship at ALL, and D) was alleged to be quite the player. It's ironic because Legoshi would do almost anything to stay with Haru and have a healthy marriage and maybe a family with her, but we can all wonder what kind of character he'd be if he was raised by his biological dad as opposed to Gosha!
i didn’t grow up in a very loving home either my parents especially my mom was distant and cold but she showed her way of loving me the best she could i didn’t understand that when i was younger i was insecure and wanted the affection i didn’t get so i understand louis and i different level than my boyfriend who grew up in a loving family with affectionate parents he can’t stand Oguma but that’s cuz he doesn’t understand him me and my mom have a better relationship now but it’s hard growing up not feeling love or affection it makes u hyper aware and even paranoid of how others perceive u
this is very interesting because the fact that beastars portrays father figures in a very very good light shows that the author of baki, despite literally creating yujiro, is actually a good dad
I wish we got more of Haru's parents, the manga gives Oguma plenty of time to interact with Louis, Gosha with Legosi, but Haru's parents don't get that much time to establish themselves as characters. Especially since her mom is mostly the reason Haru is afraid all the time.
Who's your daddy?... "Well, I have two. A-and, I like to hit on a pervy wolf from time to time." -- Louis I think Louis was in need of a motherly influence in his life. While I agree Oguma could have been more hands-on and attune to Louis' emotional feelings, it's difficult to 'play' both mother and father. Father's, in general, groom their boy's for independence and self-reliance; whereas mother's provide nurture and love so that the boy's confidence isn't utterly destroyed at an early age (which is what happened to Louis and Shinji). Compare this to Legosi who did have a caring mother, but little-to-no fatherly influence; he is emotionally-irrational and allows his feelings to guide his actions (often ignoring rationality). This is why Legosi needs Gouhin -- a fatherly influence -- to inject structure in his emotionally-chaotic existence. Awesome video, btw! I love the voice acting.
I swear you are the best at analyzing BEASTARS like damn. Also, that scream in the Hyperdrug scene actually made me flinch XD. give that guy props for me
funnily enough, we didn't have anyone who was willing to scream into the mic so I just did it with no warm-up lol. Glad to see it did its job in the scene!
I love Beastars for their Father/Son portrait and it is one of the things that make me love it so much, but man when I heard that famous line of Adam in RoR, he became best Dad in all of the manga for me in an instant.
"Not a terrible person"? He knew about children being held captive for slaughter and didn't even tell the authorities. Sure, he saved one of them, but it was entirely for his own benefit. He didn't save Louis because he wanted to do the right thing, he wanted an heir.
I think I disagree in talking about if Oguma would've been a good father for Legoshi because he doesn't yearn for affection, because I think the point is that he does, maybe as much as Louis, but is manifesting it differently. Legoshi is an example of a different complex than Louis. They both attempted to be entirely self-reliant and disconnected from their true feelings, Legoshi in making himself outwardly dislikeable so he doesn't face the rejection he knows he'd feel, and Louis by making himself as likeable/impressive as possible so that no one would reasonably dislike him.
