      PF64 Cameo I think. It went up 1 grade

    Hi Numi,
    I wondered if you know what NGC actually do when they conserve a coin? I'm interested in what they do and how it can be non destructive. Always thought cleaning was a no-no. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    What is the difference between conservation and cleaning?

    To me, a problem with auctions is the buyers fees of about 20% in a lot of instances. It's a premium for a sale that could be otherwise made person to person. I don't know, I'm open to being wrong on this, perhaps I am?

    • @codetutor6593
      @codetutor6593 6 лет назад

      For instance, a bid of £400 incurs a buyer's fee of £80 which has to be factored into the sale, making it a bad deal for both the seller and the buyer.

      You are not wrong it’s the absolute amount of money that’s important and either it’s value or not. Lots of dealers buy at the auctions too. Buyers do have to pay too much sometimes and I have seen many items go too high because buyers premium is not factored

      NCS conservation is a good choice for this coin. Bet it 64s without the haze.

    Beautifull ! I search for my first sovereign, probably a 1911-C ms-64/65 or a 1918-c ms-63/64 certified by iccs or Pcgs. Your last video litteraly anihilated my last hesitation !
    Beautifull proof half sovereign, not too marked for the grade ❤

    I wish I could see that coin in person to determine the feasibility of conservation. Under the surface coating, it looks much higher than PR63.

      I tried to see through the haze and I did not see any real scratches underneath. I hope that NCS will do a good job. They have done an amazing job other gold coins I have send them.

    My wife keeps on asking where my sudden love of sovereigns has come from so I just blame you. Funnily enough I have a further 3 arriving Wednesday all from the Melbourne Mint. Can’t think who could have possibly given me that wee bit of advice. Lol. Just a lovely piece and I really think you are right to get it conserved.

    Lovely Sovereign. I had a bid in that auction, it was a small Gold Roman coin, someone outbid me, better luck next time I suppose. I certainly hope your coin gets a higher grade after conservation. As they say, if you don't try.

    I'm not really a fan of halfs, I've only got one half Sov in my entire collection; the original one from 1817 in MS64! Besides that, I'd much rather concentrate on building a collection of key date full Sovs in mint state.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад

      That’s the benefit of going after halves... they are just as rare or rarer and in advance of demand ))

    • @heavyt5702
      @heavyt5702 6 лет назад

      Numistacker, My guess is the market for halves will always be significantly smaller than that for full Sovs, regardless of rarity. In general, I think people quite like the idea of something that is 'whole' as opposed to a half. Often the only people that would buy a half Sov are those that are unable to afford the full Sov. But having said that, I think the 1887 Proof half is a keeper, but it won't ever be anywhere as desirable as the full Sov of that same date.
