You don't need to be born in Japan to feel Japanese. In my case, i was born in Spain, but my feeling and my identity is totally japanese. Not in a nationalist way, but in a sense of community. Maybe is hard to understand i guess, but life is marked by experiences and changes. Cheers!

Now, look at Lebanon, Rwanda in 1994, Ethopia (societies with "strong diversity" that splits fractures along religious or ethnic lines resulting in disaster). Now, look at South Korea (a racially homogenous ethno state), low crime, high income, high IQ, high literacy. I can give you examples all day long.
Reminiscent of a Welsh home game in Cardiff when it comes to "Land of My Fathers" when everyone is in full voice, the patriotism is unmistakable. Definitely one of my favorite anthems in this world cup alongside the Welsh one

I agree. Unfortunately that is what Scotland do in most of their games. I'd prefer we have Japan replace Scotland in the 6 nations. Much more attacking rugby

Then in Meiji period about 150 yrs ago, they chose it as an anthem of Japan.
From about 500 yrs ago the original type of the song was being sung as a song to hope long life, and also still nowadays.

( will live in peace a long long time)
Sazareishi no
( like a stone in a riverside)*sazareishi means that it’s a big stone made by many small stones with rolling from upside of the river.

( is rolling over, and getting bigger with some small stones)
Koke no musu made
( for a long time like moss grow)

@@asalcatraz2334 There are some way to interpret, so Japanese also has different ideas about the anthem. In addition, the lyrics are old Japanese styles, so most of people in japan and of course other countries don’t understand the real meanings of them.

Japanese lyrics often use expressions that cannot be expressed in a direct translation.
日本生まれではないけど日本代表としてプレーしてる選手が国歌をしっかり歌ってるって嬉しくなる
ただ無条件に国を愛すことを強要するのではなく、この国に住む/関わるあらゆる人々が自ずと愛せるような国にする、あるいは現状としてそういう国だと思う人はそういう国を保っていく努力をすることが大切だと思うね
私は今この国が好きだしこの国の一員であることを喜ばしく思うけれど、色々あって好きになれない人もいるだろう
ただそういう人をひどい言葉で非難するのではなく、そういう人たちもいつか自然にこの国を愛せるようになってもらえるようによりよい国づくりに貢献できるよう毎日努めていきたいね
