- With my rucksack packed, once again, I jumped in the car and headed for the glorious Peak District. Joining me on this camp was an old mate of mine. We started the hike from Glossop and made our way up towards Moss Castle where we joined the Pennine Way footpath which goes across Featherbed Top which we then followed in the direction of Mill Hill.
Once we'd arrived at Mill Hill, we then made our way to the top of William Clough and the bottom of Ashop Head. After a short climb up Ashop Head, we arrived up on top of the plateau of Kinder Scout. From here, we followed the edge patch past Sandy Heys and towards Kinder Downfall were we collected some water. After a bit of debate about where we were going to pitch for the night, we eventually decided to head up to Kinder Gates. At the Gates we pitched up and settled down for the evening. We had a few beers, food and plenty of laughs as we enjoyed some good chats around the campsite.
The following morning, we awoke to find that the weather conditions were exactly the same as the previous day, with the visibility down to around 15-20 yards. After a morning brew, we then packed up and made our way down off of Kinder Scout and back to the car. Once we were back at the car, we next headed directly to the pub for a spot of breakfast and a couple of pints.
This was another fantastic, enjoyable camp, made all the better for the foggy conditions. It really gave the surrounding scenery of Kinder Scout an eerie, spooky feel to the place. Brilliant stuff.👍🙂
