Regarding the squeakiness of vocalist's voice - if you check live interviews with her, it's just the way she speaks and sings. And her shrieks are like nothing else. I really enjoy the vocals that is driven by emotion.
@@Underournorthernstar I think technically they're on hiatus, not officially split, but that's probably just semantics. Lennart is still playing in Amenra, and also just put out a record last year with the singer from Crossbearer as Predatory Void; Caro was touring with Amenra recently. Seeing her do guest vocals on the stuff they played from De Doorn was incredible.
@10101110 Ah my mistake then. Yeah that song is my favourite on the album. Hope they can figure something out. Seems such a shame for them to not be making music.
12:40 you really need to refresh your memory for your "10 : 56" / "second song of r" reaction, because you definitely heard clean vocals from her 😅first one is more of an intro with only clean vocals, and "second son" features bunch of clean vocal sections as well edit: 24:40 love that you precognitively listened to my advice! 🥰 no need to thank me!
Technically it's any sound that takes the general metal sound but tries to do something different with it. Much like how Post Rock used rock instruments in new and unique ways in the late 80s with bands like Talk Talk leading the way. However the genre has narrowed down quite a bit into basically describing heavy sounds and thick atmosphere, usually resulting in a weighty wall of sound. It's also spawned two popular subgenres, Atmospheric Sludge Metal and Doomgaze -- both of which focus on dense atmospheres but with differing kinds of weight and sonic palette. RateYourMusic has a pretty good description of both the sound and the evolution of the genre. rateyourmusic.com/genre/post-metal/
To me it's just a more lazy term for "atmospheric sludge metal". So it's sludge metal (which is darker, heavier and slower hardcore punk) with post-rock elements. So I am not sure if Oathbreaker fits here, to me it sounds more like atmospheric black metal
Huh.... I thought the vocals were perfectly mixed. They're quite distinctly placed compared to the band and have enough volume to cut through them as well.
@CriticalReactions that is so strange I listened to your reaction on my car ride home and I remember you commenting near the beginning about how the vocals were layered and then I thought, "wait there's singing ??" At any rate been loving binging your breakdowns the past few months keep it up!
@@CriticalReactions I'm listening on Sennheisers and i agree, maybe just this genre's style but the instruments are overbearing compared to the vocals Edit: gets better with the screaming i guess
She has one of the most cutting screams I’ve ever heard. Love this record.
Her voice is beautiful!
Giving me Julie Christmas vibes here.... (see: Cult of Luna ft. Julie Christmas)

This album is amazing! I wish they put a new album soon!
Sadly they split last I heard

That's my secret.... I'm a medium. A Critical Medium
Very low mix on the vocals though. Makes them sound brittle, but they also lose punch.
What is the definition of 'post' metal???

@CriticalReactions Well, thank you very much for such an epistle. It now lands quite a bit more. (Not my favourite subgenre anyway😅) but thanks again.

What is the mix on these vocals is this intentional? They are barely audible

@@JohnytommI've been listening to this band for awhile and the vocals have always sounded deliberately placed.
