Hey Landon, I am 47 and have enjoyed Hickory Speedway my whole life. It's great having a historical local short track to see stars and young dreamers...BUT...I / We long for the day of experienced ownership and promotion. Your sponsor pays for advertising, your family is a well-known racing name, and your guys need to be able to take pride in their hard work on track. For you and your dad to be told " You're not racing because WE SAID SO " is unacceptable. Hickory Motor Speedway unfortunately has a long history of being poorly run. Talk with your sponsorship about going CARS Tour racing. Their new owners should know what they are doing. Give them hell bud 🏁
Almost this same thing happened to us. There was a rule about tires we were completely unaware of and almost got into trouble for. Had to bargain with the owners to be able to run. We got lucky enough to go race and still wreck the car 😅 it’s frustrating getting caught off guard like that, if I were you I’d be upset too
Wasn't it just last year that they tried to tell you that you couldn't race another car in a different division or something like that? Its crazy how they are treating one of the most popular drivers they have and the defending track champion. You really showed alot of maturity on how you handled this whole situation
Sorry that you got bit by that “unwritten rule” we still really enjoy watching you compete, and the channel. Please thank all your crew for us, those guys are awesome!
Been in similar situation before at Montgomery, all you can do is live and learn, easy to get mad and say you'll never go back but we always do. It was cool of you to still give the promoter props for his efforts at the track where most others would pitch a temper tantrum, you handled it about as good as possible. Just go out and bust their ass next race and win both races.
Sorry all this happened, I will say the camera view in the car was good. You could see you work the brake and back in the throttle very clear. I understand the advantages of tires with less laps but there has to be options when you’re involved in a crash of you not making. They’ve got to figure out a option to keep cars in the second race when this happens.
These tracks think they have the golden ticket to F' with Drivers and Teams! For myself, last year, I had to accept that my home track was no longer going to be an option for me and my team! It hurt really bad, considering the track was 3 miles from my shop and my dad raced there in the '80's and all my crew had raced/crewed cars their most of their adult lives! I hate it for you and your crew Landon! Also, like the great Saturday Night Live skit that had Will Ferrell and Chirstopher Walken saying, "I want more cowbell"... I Want more Robert!!!! Thanks for trying to make LMSC racing great again!!!! Thank You!!!

I saw Hickory's facebook post about this. Seems to be made up on the drop of a dime. No idea why that rule would ever exist unless they're assuming new tires would be too much of an advantage. Why not just start a lap down? Sorry my man. Shady behavior from Hickory.
Yeah I'm reading the fb post right now. Very shitty deal imo. "This tire situation which occurred on Saturday has been addressed in these drivers meetings and prior drivers meetings for YEARS. The competitors in Late Models(Twin events) are told if they do not complete all 20 laps their tires will not be eligible for the second event. This would apply for a flat or cut tire before 20 laps are complete. The solution for this issue is the competitor is expected to purchase 1 or more tires(based on how many tires did not make it 20 laps) which would help to equal the tire situation with all the other competitors. Although Hickory Motor Speedway officials could have re-iterated the rule to these (3)teams, it does not take away the responsibility of the teams to know and understand the rules, whether conveyed in the rule book or at the drivers meeting. Since the (3) teams outside of the 20 lap minimum tire rule were not in compliance, our decision Saturday Night was to allow all (3) teams to start and receive last place points and monies, however they would not be able to advance their positions with the tire advantage. One team elected to take advantage and start while the other two teams ELECTED to park without starting. All Cars were given the opportunity to start." While fresher tires would definitely yield an advantage, it would appear that they made no such mention of this rule during the drivers meeting for the day of this event. Nor did they present him the opportunity to buy scuffed tires before the second feature. There was a tire shortage the last couple years and plenty of tracks have enforced rules similar to this to help the little guy so to speak(my local dirt track did the same thing for their twin feature night a year or two ago for example), but this all needs to be spelled out for everyone to be on the same page. Florence speedway has a similar tire rule for twin features, except they're smart enough to spell it out clearly in the rulebook. "For twin races, you must start race one of the twins on the 4 new tires you qualified on. If you run 25 or fewer laps in race one, then you must start race two on the same four tires, one lap down at the back of the pack."
With rules like that, entry fees need to be paid right before the mains. I know that sounds silly, but so does enforcing a non existent rule that was verbally declared at a totally different event on a different date. I don't know if I could have kept my cool, I was getting mad watching the video! Lol!
The amount of exposure the track is receiving in the last year or two as a sanctioning body in Nascar should receive a call from Nascar. We hate it do you an we hope to see you at Caraway this year!
mannn perfect points in this video, couldve literally gave you tires or let you run the limited. don’t understand why they gotta really just screw you over in the end, i was just there for the first time last weekend, i think imma stick to my hometracks 😂 love the content landon keep it up and show him even the made up rules can’t stop the 75
Tuff brake landon. Always drama at the short tracks and it's the track causing it most of the time and they wander why people stop going. Better days coming bro we all know it. Don't let these 2 weeks rattle you it's just part of it. Some times when it rains it really pours but after that the flowers come out.
Sounds like you need to find a new place to race on Saturday nights. They screwed you last year in the limited car as well. They make up rules on race night…..total bullshit
As if getting knocked out of the first 40 wasn’t punishment enough, they take you out of any chance of getting any purse money for the second 40 to salvage the night. They sealed the deal for me , I won’t be going back to that skanky track, other than the history that facility has nothing else going for it
I won't ever set foot at hickory because they made a rule "you guys need to be 200lbs heavier" after we were fast in open practice Friday Corrupt as hell
I'm new to your channel (but I damned sure subbed after seeing this!!!) but I am, unfortunately, familiar with promoters pulling BS moves like this. I grew up in NW Louisiana, watching my dad race at tracks like Boot Hill Speedway, Minden Speedway and other dirt venues. I cannot tell you how many times promoters/track officials decided to DQ some poor dude for a rule that was NEVER vocally or textually mentioned prior to that evenings races...and this was in the 70's and 80's. All you can do really is store that info in your brain, and Charlie Mike (that is an old Army thing, mean Continue Mission) I will be tuning in, Landon, because I LOVE what I see in your racing endeavors!! P.S. if you ever need a paint scheme, hmu!
Damn man, I winced inside when I saw the crash happening "not again!!" went off in my head. Then that BS call?? You kept it as cool as you could after that call, not sure I could have been as cool. Id say more but I'm trying to get my cussing under control.
Dam bro that’s shitty.Caraway and tri county would love to have you guys.Fans would be excited at tri county to see you run there .Sorry about what happened just stay true to yourself and it will all workout
This shit has happened to me before during a race i lined up for the heat race and they said that i needed to go through inspection again and they said the kart was to light then we weighed it after we added some weight luckily it started to ran so all races were postponed giving me and my buddies to get the right amount of weight took it back to inspection and they said we had ran to fast in practice and that they needed to look at the motor and the shit that pissed me off was that they called my buddy that was racing he was starting 5th in the heat and i was 3rd for inspection and the karts were complete copies of each other setup wise and they told us we couldn't race they gave him the same bullshit excuse and then they call my 10 year old cousin who was doing his first race saying his was illegally modified and so we had to pack it up but we could stay and watch i talked to the manager of the track and the official reason we couldn't race was because the week before i had gotten into a altercation with one of the older drivers for putting his hands on my buddy because he supposedly caused him to spin out and hit the tire barrier and i ended up whooping his ass and his dad completely agree with what i did well his mom sees that I'm racing at this race and causes a seen and threatened to call the cops on me and the funny thing is he got to the main race and he won and they inspected his engine and found that it had been modified because he had made a massive lead and was running at least 10 miles an hour faster than everyone else and he was pissed and he started rasing hell and his dad walked over to the official and said thank you for the racing it was fun but his son wouldn't be coming back and sold his shit right their to the kid in second gear tires part and kart for 500 bucks and the guy hasn't showed up since but it is sad that this shit happened to you Landon
That’s crazy brother, you and the other drivers involved in that wreck were totally screwed. I understand completely if you don’t want to come back. Maybe you guys should go to another track and when they lose half there crowd in the grandstands maybe they will realize they messed up. Cause honestly if they were to lose you guys and say the 88 left as well. I really think they would wake up and realize they were wrong. Either way I’ll support you no matter what you do. Keep your head up brother, I know you’re going to kick ass no matter where you’re at. We love you guys here in the Bluegrass State…
Hate that happened man, I swear that 75 looks better with black wheels. Hope RJ feels better. Do you know what race yall are going to visit wake county speedway? Thanks.
This is terrible. As a resident of Hickory for over 20 years, you are my official short track hero. It's things like this that I have heard of from several locals are the reason I don't show up for the races. The FACT this track turned down $50k when Iracing first attempted to scan the place for the simulator told me everything I needed to know about the leadership there. I even worked with a lady who's son TRIED to come up with awesome ideas and she would give me updates. He finally got fed up and left because of their resistance to change. I guess I'll try to watch some more dirt racing HMS....their purses are bigger and shows more entertaining. The only thing HMS seems to have going for it is those STUPID tour of destruction events.
Yeah we were there, that's total bull shit! I don't think even when I was going and helping on a team that was a rule. Hopefully they will get their heads straight and make changes in the correct way. Of all people with Kevin running the tire shed in the early 2000's you would think he would have made that a known rule if it was a thing. I honestly kind of felt like there was someone they wanted to take the win. I know that probably sounds pretty lame but well, I said what I said. I've also never seen them move a car to the back when they are in a wreck but aren't fully involved but it happened Saturday.
Man that's bad luck for you and Doug all that hard work and money spent to get to the track. Maybe you should run at other tracks Folrence, Southern National , Dillon, Orange County, anywhere but Hickory.
Man. What owners, drivers, or combination of are politicking and pulling this sht? Someone's gotta be runnin to the officials and getting in their ear to get these calls made. Someone that could never beat your dad probably.
The intent is fine, the fact that it isn’t a rule on the rule book and was not mentioned in the drivers meeting, nor was it enforced or were we notified of options before the second race, that’s the real issue here. If it’s going to be a rule I’m fine with it, but communicate that, and give us options
@@LandonHuffmanRacing understand completely and agree. I'm a drive it out the front windshield kind of guy. ID problem. admit problem. fix problem. On a (slightly) different topic, I ran LMSC in Texas many moons ago. I like watching your channel because I ran used cars with cobbled up template steel bodies (the rule then). Our team built the engines/trans/quickchanges in our shop. We ran Hoosier F 40 and had a 1-new-tire-a-week rule. I really cut costs and worked great. If interested I will tell you how it worked.
Like I said on Twitter. There's a lot of tracks that would love to you, your sponsors and your fanbase race at their place. When I competed in rodeo we'd run into this kind of crap on a regional level. And that's why those rodeos and producers aren't in business anymore. It'll be the same thing with tracks.
@@LandonHuffmanRacing your dedication to your sponsors is good statement to them and should work out in your favor. I’m pulling for you out here in Oklahoma!
I can see why there would be a rule about completed laps in race required to compete in race two. However if a car is involved in an accident and the crew repaired the car in time for race two, the car should be allowed to complete in the second race. No start and park. People paid money to watch a race, not a discussion on rules.
WOW,,, Should have Known? Are there examples of this from before? Something doesn't smell right. You handled it a lot better than I would of. I doubt I would race there again.
Last year I think it was AirDoug got fucked over by Hickory. Think it was they qualified he qualified top 5 then the track decided they where gonna run by points. Then the track forced him to give back tires he already paid for or be banned.
I was there, it was bullshit, if I had been him I would have just sat there on the grid. They can either sit there or not race at that point 🤷🏼 maybe that's just me being petty back lol

If it’s not written rule, and they haven’t mentioned it in a drivers meeting this season, that is flat out wrong. I’ve had planned on going to Hickory for a race this season, but I doubt I will now.
They could have easily let the drivers that got crashed, run the 15 laps or so during intermission, get everything cooled back down and be ready to go for the 2nd feature. Think about the racers! They are the show!
That's bull crap man. Never been to Hickory and nor will I come now. Good luck Landon. If you race somewhere else, I'll try to come. I was at the Hickory metro center for my son's wrestling tournament. Whoever did that wasn't prepared either. Was way over fire code for all the people in the building and rude as well. Was gonna come to the speedway after it was done. But after all that bs we decided to go home. Guess that was a good call. Wouldn't have seen you race if we showed up. Would've been even more upset.
where does it state in the rule book that any information passed along at any driver's meeting shall be valid for future race weeks even if not stated explicitly that week?
This is crazy. If you qualified, they have to let you race unless stipulated in the RULES. You may have to start scratch, but you should have been able to run the second race. If they are running NASCAR rules (points), track requires they follow points races the same.
Landon yes sir i have had them before, let RJ know he has a bunch of rednecks from texas praying for him. Them stones will take the meanest man to his knees!

Gotta love when tracks make up rules on the fly!!!
Sponsors want to see their advertisement out on the track so its def a BS call not to let you race. Hurts everyone involved.
It wasn’t ideal that’s for sure
Unreal. Bummed for ya'll and AirDoug. I keep up with ya'll on the ol'RUclipss .... keep diggin' boys.
Thank you brother
The amount of exposure the track is receiving in the last year or two as a sanctioning body in Nascar should receive a call from Nascar. We hate it do you an we hope to see you at Caraway this year!
Might have to make the trip!
mannn perfect points in this video, couldve literally gave you tires or let you run the limited. don’t understand why they gotta really just screw you over in the end, i was just there for the first time last weekend, i think imma stick to my hometracks 😂 love the content landon keep it up and show him even the made up rules can’t stop the 75
Prayers and Beers for R.J. on the first "Black Wheels" video. Hmmm.... the luck o' black wheels
It'll turn around man. Y'all keep working hard it will turn around.👍🏁🏁🤙
Thanks Kevin
You should've let moonhead loose with some "BEEF" on them
Moonhead was set on kill
this makes me wonder how many more unwritten rules will be enforced in the future
Tuff brake landon. Always drama at the short tracks and it's the track causing it most of the time and they wander why people stop going. Better days coming bro we all know it. Don't let these 2 weeks rattle you it's just part of it. Some times when it rains it really pours but after that the flowers come out.
We will rebound! I have full confidence
Time to find a new track that loves the positive light you shed on the sport.
The only way to go is up now, can’t get any further down than that. We’re all behind you bud!
Thank you dude!
Will North Wilkesboro run a weekly series after the renovation is done, might want to head up there if they do
Sounds like you need to find a new place to race on Saturday nights. They screwed you last year in the limited car as well. They make up rules on race night…..total bullshit
As if getting knocked out of the first 40 wasn’t punishment enough, they take you out of any chance of getting any purse money for the second 40 to salvage the night. They sealed the deal for me , I won’t be going back to that skanky track, other than the history that facility has nothing else going for it
I won't ever set foot at hickory because they made a rule "you guys need to be 200lbs heavier" after we were fast in open practice Friday
Corrupt as hell
Sorry to hear that man. I feel your pain having dealt with unwritten rules in the past, and it's complete BS. Take it to 'em next week.
We will rebound as we always do🤘🏻
Sounds like Nascar, making up rules as they go. Keep fighting guys!! Don't give up! And way to stand up for yourselves!
P.S. if you ever need a paint scheme, hmu!
thanks man I really appreciate it!
Complete bullshit. If it's a rule, it needs to be in the rule-book and mentioned in the driver's meeting every single time. No exceptions.
100%
That’s total bs how they just randomly do that to you I hope you win the championship again this year.
Keep digging Landon!! One reason I quit going to Hickory was the BS
F that place they wouldn’t see me anymore
That’s crazy brother, you and the other drivers involved in that wreck were totally screwed. I understand completely if you don’t want to come back. Maybe you guys should go to another track and when they lose half there crowd in the grandstands maybe they will realize they messed up. Cause honestly if they were to lose you guys and say the 88 left as well. I really think they would wake up and realize they were wrong. Either way I’ll support you no matter what you do. Keep your head up brother, I know you’re going to kick ass no matter where you’re at. We love you guys here in the Bluegrass State…
Kevin Pearcy will never ever say he is wrong! He is to dig headed and has never been able to keep from screwing over the Racers and teams!
I have been to many races at Hickory but after this I will not be back!
I haven't been to that track. Was gonna give it a chance. Will not now!
Hate that happened man, I swear that 75 looks better with black wheels. Hope RJ feels better. Do you know what race yall are going to visit wake county speedway? Thanks.
At least the new camera position looks great ;-)
What the hell Landon that sucks man. Get Well soon RJ
RJ is still on the mend
Get well soon rj! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅💪🏽
The only thing HMS seems to have going for it is those STUPID tour of destruction events.
would love to see ya a tri county , great track , great officials great facility
That was not mentioned in the Driver's Meeting this is what kills race tracks right here
Found some high rock at the NH liquor store, never seen it before but had to buy it!
I just passed a kidney stone Saturday I feel for RJ. Those things are no joke!
never had one and hope like hell I dont ever get one lol
damn man it sucks that this happened to you. the very first time you ever raced there and they forgot to mention a rule in the driver’s meeting
Being on the rev limiter, doesn't that hurt the valve train. How often you change valve springs?
And then ppl wonder why local motor racing circuits are dying left and right throughout the south
Man that's bad luck for you and Doug all that hard work and money spent to get to the track. Maybe you should run at other tracks Folrence, Southern National , Dillon, Orange County, anywhere but Hickory.
That’s why short track racing is fucked because they do what they feel at the moment
Man. What owners, drivers, or combination of are politicking and pulling this sht? Someone's gotta be runnin to the officials and getting in their ear to get these calls made. Someone that could never beat your dad probably.
I understand the intent of the "rule". What if the go forward deal is that you would have to fire 4 "half depth" scuffs and catch the tail?
That was a complete cluster- fuck at Hickory last night.
Now you see why I will never go back to HMS
Like I said on Twitter. There's a lot of tracks that would love to you, your sponsors and your fanbase race at their place. When I competed in rodeo we'd run into this kind of crap on a regional level. And that's why those rodeos and producers aren't in business anymore. It'll be the same thing with tracks.
Ultimately I have to race where my partners are and want me to race.
I certainly understand the sponsorship side of it and travel costs, but I'd love to see you racing at Motor Mile Speedway.
@@LandonHuffmanRacing your dedication to your sponsors is good statement to them and should work out in your favor. I’m pulling for you out here in Oklahoma!
And another black eye for the racing community! Hickory is a no go track now! That's too bad, Kevin needs to grow a pair n man up!
Hey Landon I’m a huge fan of your channel, I was wondering what do you use to record your radio communication and put it into your videos?
That’s some bull, keep your head up it’ll get better!!!
Live to race another day!
Tough luck on that wood Hickory I wouldn't suggest and find another track that's about an hour or two away from your shop
Sounds like Charlie Powell of Summerville Speedway SC. Made up rules for his son Robert. Had favoritism for family members.
I can see why there would be a rule about completed laps in race required to compete in race two. However if a car is involved in an accident and the crew repaired the car in time for race two, the car should be allowed to complete in the second race. No start and park. People paid money to watch a race, not a discussion on rules.
I agree with yall, this happens in go kart racing with us
Just use this as motivation and go win the next race and the race after that and so forth
Do they give you back your entry free money ?
And this is why I stopped going to hickory and drive out to tri county speedway it’s so much better there
Come to Nashville in May when the Arca East series races
They knew, if you would of left, half the grandstands would have left.
Tried to handle it to best of my ability while also being extremely pissed off
@@LandonHuffmanRacing oh I was watching, I was attempting to drink coffee while watching rob give em hell up top, then I saw you get out and go towards the pace car and I looked at my roommate and was like watch this. You stayed cooler than I would have been in that situation, I've had to talk while pissed off a few times at Vern and Karen when I was spotting at Kingsport so I know exactly how you feel
Next time your dad has to straighten a shock, please have someone film that lol
I was to baffled to record lol
@@LandonHuffmanRacing my dad would have done the same shit. Something about old school racers from the 80’s 😂
That’s not right ! Way to treat your track champion !
I wish you could just say screw that track forever❗Unbelievable they threw those changes in with not telling teams❗❗❗❗
That’s plenty of other race tracks that would love you’re notoriety and that’s for sure!!
I wish it was that easy to up and change plans! We will see what happens
@@LandonHuffmanRacing I guess he still has it against you from when you should have won over his son
Come up the mountain a couple hours to Motor Mile Speedway if you’re done with Hickory
Do they not realize there’s probably people coming there just to watch you race!…unreal!
im sure they do not care about this
all good LH, its drama that ads to the video and car has no damage. all it cost was gas and a little rubber but was a test session.
We have got to improve communication. Simple as that.
where does it state in the rule book that any information passed along at any driver's meeting shall be valid for future race weeks even if not stated explicitly that week?
It doesn’t!
This is crazy.
If you qualified, they have to let you race unless stipulated in the RULES.
You may have to start scratch, but you should have been able to run the second race.
If they are running NASCAR rules (points), track requires they follow points races the same.
It seems the track can do as they please
Wow that is bad, Thank you for your professionalism. Are you sure RJ does not have excessive gas? Just kidding RJ
Them kidney stones are a tough one
Landon yes sir i have had them before, let RJ know he has a bunch of rednecks from texas praying for him. Them stones will take the meanest man to his knees!
This one had me crying. Back to walking like a normal human until I piss the sunbitch out ✌️
RJ they had to blow kidneys up with air they zapped it. Later doctor warned me that i would fart thru herman, sure enough it happed scared me half to death. I mean the air has to come out somewhere. Get feeling better and hope you pass it soon.
@@nickhoffman5524 yes sir! I DREAD the day they have to go in there and get one. I’ve been lucky thus far ::knock on wood::
Sorry you got screwed over Landon. Go get em next time!!
thanks dude!
