When it comes to Black businesses or let me limit it to Ghana with regards to your question about “businesses not living past the first generation”, Ken jnr’s answer is just an icing on the cake but the reality has to do with our system or culture of inheritance amongst us because if the founder of the business dies most especially “men” the businesses collapse because of who with take over the enterprise. If he had multiple wives then wahala amongst the wives and their respective kids and even if he married one wives the bone of contention then may come amongst the children if he had multiple kids, or between wife and kids against the man’s external family. So in most cases they either sell the enterprise to share the proceeds or totally run it down
If you have a dad or parents who are strict and want to teach their child how to fish, rather than giving the child a fish. It's simply a way of not spoiling your children because you have the means.

What I have seen is that, millionaires don't tell their kids to own certificates but tell them to own businesses. They boast of their businesses whilst the kids from poor homes boast of their certificates.
