well this confirmed what I thought for a while, my v-tools suck. They can't even cut wood at all, they just dig in and make terrible indents in the wood. I think I might start using a tea spoon as its probably going to be better result

There are specific targets at the end of each step and if you complete these you are guaranteed a keen V tool at the end of it, and a deep understanding of the process.
Yes, you need to subscribe - WoodcarvingWorkshops.tv costs a huge amount in time and money to build and run it. However, you can sign up for just one month, go through the V tool sharpening and have the download (and the benefit of the other 560 videos and 50-odd downloads on the site) - all for the cost of a coffee and bagel!
Awesome Andrew - Straight up, every carver who has sharpened a V tool has had to learn how to do it, including me. It's a skill. Neat and tidy, and in the end a lot easier than carving itself. My best advice is to subscribe to WoodcarvingWorkshops.tv - which you can do for a month - and go through the full V tool sharpening lessons, step by step. You don't pass to step 2 until you have step 1 looking like I show you. There's a download that lists these steps too. If you do this, you WILL sharpen your V tool, and I bet you do, can do, and will do, far more difficult things in your life.
Sir, im looking to buy a few quality tools to start with, i mostly do detailed work like ornamental / figure carving.. There is so much out there so i wonder if yo have any suggestions or like the most used / basic sizes and shapes used? Like what chisels i can do the most with? Great video
Tito - That's a difficult question; carvers are very different in what they like to use. My best advice is to subscribe to WoodcarvingWorkshops.tv - which you can do for a month - have a look through the 650 video lessons and projects there and see what's like you are doing. Then look to the downloads (there are nearly 70 now) of the project tool lists and you'll see what I'm using. That should help you decide. Pfeil, Taylor, Iles, Stubai are all decent makes.
