Mrs. Figg is Harry's neighbor, book 1 describes her as a crazy cat lady who sometimes babysat Harry. This book reveals that she's been working for Dumbledore the whole time keeping an eye on Harry. She's also a "squib" (slang like "muggle"), kind of a reverse muggle-born, a child of wizard parents with no magic. Mr. Filch the Hogwarts janitor is also one.
All that stuff got cut for the movies though, making her scene up a bit abrupt.

    • @MichaelBond

    • @residentfan1521

Apparently the reason the squib stuff was cut is that Warner Bros bought the film rights before Rowling had finished the fifth book so they didn’t know that that stuff would be important. That’s also probably why a bunch of the Marauders stuff isn’t fully explained.

I truly adore Luna. She doesn't get a lot of screen time in the movies, but she absolutely slays the time she gets. And I will forever stan her and Harry. As for why...
It's expounded on more in the books, but Luna is, as you noticed, rather unusual and isn't afraid to show it. This resulted in her being the victim of bullying; when she says her things are disappearing, what she really means is that her fellow students are stealing and hiding them from her. It's not dissimilar to Harry's own childhood. More importantly, Luna always sees Harry for himself, not for any of his titles or deeds, and she always treats him like an equal. In Harry's life, she's an incredible emotional rock for him; she somehow can always tell what's on his mind, and manages to say something that comforts him. In turn, Harry never makes fun of her for her quirks and oddities, and he's always willing to stand up for her and by her side, no matter who makes fun of her. "Loony" is a derogatory nickname she's received from other students, this Hermione's double take when she accidentally introduces Luna with that name.

Bellatrix didn't kill Neville parents. She used the cruciatis curse on them. Basically tortured them until they lost their mind. They had a whole scene in the book where Neville went to visit them but in the movies Sirius only mentioned that they suffered a fate worst than death. That's also why Neville was triggered by (Fake) Moody performing the curse on the bug in Goblet.

This is my favorite movie too!! It’s the best book to film adaptation and really dives into Harry’s psyche. 🥰 To answer your question about why Voldemort doesn’t attack Harry when he’s at the Dursley’s, it’s because he can’t. There’s a protection in place that stems from Lily Potter’s sacrifice and it continues to live through her sister, Petunia, because they are related by blood. That’s why Dumbledore makes Harry return there every summer and he is forced to live with them. It’s not explained in the movies but trust me, everything makes sense in the books! It seems like there’s plot holes in the movies just because so much from the books is missing. I look forward to your reactions! Can’t wait for the next one! 😁

I especially love the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore - you get to see what a fight between top wizards actually looks like, not just sparks flying around but using complicated, grandiose magic.
I would like to point out though that the most accurate book adaptations are movies 1 and 2 - that's when JK Rowling was still heavily involved in movies and that's why those movies are actually the longest of the 8 - even there stuff got cut (obviously) but they're the most accurate to the books.

All students under the age of 17 are not allowed to use magic outside of school. Adults are free to use magic as they please. Just ideally wherever a Muggle isn't present.

    • @Autobot9400
      @Autobot9400 Месяц назад

Not ideally. Due to things like the Salem Witch Trials in the 1600s, it is illegal to use magic in front of muggles unless you have a seriously valid reason that will be investigated and, regardless of severity, those muggles will be mindwiped.
Even muggles who are brought into the Wizarding world (parents of muggle-borns, muggle spouses etc) actually have to take tests and swear legal oaths so that the Wizarding World remains a secret. If nothing else, the Wizarding World takes the Statute of Secrecy very seriously for fear the muggles might attempt another extermination.
Witches and wizards under the age of 17 are barred from using magic outside Hogwarts under penalty of expulsion and wand destruction. It's the same reasoning we have for not letting a 12 year old buy alcohol or cigarettes or a 14 year old to drive a car. They're not old enough, responsible enough or educated/trained enough. Accidental use of magic isn't punished though because that happens fairly often like Harry blowing up Aunt Marge or making the glass in the snake terrarium vanish. In fact, the books tell us Harry accidentally did magic all the time but he couldn't get in trouble for it.

The reason the twins are abke to use magic outside of school is because they have reached the age where they are allowed too, harry was underage when he performed magic at the start

    • @PeterDB90
      @PeterDB90 5 месяцев назад +1

To add - it's legal for underage students to use magic but only in school while they are learning. They're not allowed to use magic outside of school because they aren't proficient with it and magic comes with dangers (for instance, the teleportation spell, if done incorrectly, could actually make part of you appear in one spot and part of you in another and literally kill you).
This is different from performing magic in front of a muggle - that is illegal to EVERYONE because magic people want their world to continue to stay hidden from muggles. It does still happen every now and then and depending on circumstances not always a serious crime - sometimes they just need to wipe the memory of muggles who saw the magic happen and put everything back in order.

So an answer to your question about Mrs. Figg: She is known as a squib. In the wizarding world sometimes parents that are both wizards/witches will have a child without magical power. Mrs. Figg and Filch (caretaker of Hogwarts) are squibs. They went to school like the other students but took classes that were designed around non magical principles. Potions for example is something a squib can partake in.

Also Mrs Figg was Harry's neighbor across the street growing up. Kind of an old cat lady living alone. The dursleys were always worried about what she'd think of them. Harry never knew she was really apart of the wizard world until the event with the dementors. And the dursleys thought she was a normal cat lady. Clearly Dumbledore wanted someone watching the privet drive house all those years while Harry was growing up.

-Mrs. Figg is a more prominent character in the books. For the first four books she's basically just this batty old neighbor of the Dursley's who would sometimes babysit Harry, and make his time with her quite miserable. Then in this book you suddenly realize that she was a Squib (non-magical person born from wizard parents) who Dumbledore had keeping an eye on Harry the entire time he was at his aunt and uncles. It was a huge plot twist.
-Tonks is a Metamorphmagus, a wizard who has the natural born ability to change their appearance. She's an auror, so she uses her ability to disguise herself on cases and while working for the Order. Also her actress was in Game of Thrones.
-Fred and George are 17 in this film, so they can now use their magic outside of school without worry. You still can't have muggles see you using magic, though, as the existence of wizards is a strict secret.
-Neville's parents were not murdered, but Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch Jr. tortured them for information and drove them insane. They are now permanently hospitalized and barely recognize their own son.
-McGonagall is part of the Order. In the book she only briefly shows up at Headquarters, but otherwise she is mainly the Order member in full time residence at Hogwarts, keeping control of the school.
-Umbridge REALLY hates Hagrid in the book because he is half giant. She's extremely racist towards all half humans, both half breeds like Hagrid for his giant blood, but also centaurs and mermaids.
-Sirius was never actually captured by Voldemort. Voldemort used his connection to Harry to give him a false vision of him torturing Sirius.

A bit more info on Neville's parents (none of this is spoilers, this is stuff from the books that never made it into the movie) - were tortured by Bellatrix with Cruciatus curse (the one where they say "Crucio" to torture - in the book it's described as searing, intense pain as if every cell in your body is on fire) until they literally went mad - they're still alive in a sort of mental hospital (Gilderoy Lockhart is there with them too, by the way - he's the professor from the 2nd movie who lost his memory) and Neville often visits them with his grandma, but it's a very sad situation - even in the books. His parents barely recognize him and aren't in their right minds. Neville in many ways is a character parallel to Harry, in fact he was born in the same month as Harry and at the time they didn't know whether the prophecy was referring to Harry or to Neville - Voldemort was going to kill Harry back when he was a baby because of the prophecy AND THEN kill Neville because he didn't know which one was the correct child, but since the situation with Harry left him in a weak, defeated state, he never got to Neville.

I heard an interview with J. K. Rowling where she said she almost decided to kill Mr. Weasley in this movie. But she liked him so much, and didn’t want to leave seven children orphaned without a father. So, in order to make up for not killing, Mr. Weasley, she killed two other characters. When we get to the end, movie, I’ll explain what two characters she killed to replace Mr. Weasley.

Nymphadora Tonks hair doesn't really change according to her mood per se, she's able to do it herself she's a very rare individual who can change their appearance to anything that they want. They are able to do this without Polyjuice Potion or without using the animagus charm. Her mother was a sister to Bellatrix Lestrange, and cousin to Sirius Black.

Harry is Ron's best friend but Harry always gets all of the attention because of his past and because of his abilities playing quidditch, Harrys name getting chosen (despite not putting it in) was a bit too much for Ron to cope at that time.

The moment the Order of the Phoenix members arrives you realiz that Dumbledore army are still a bunch of kids. The adults truly are more experienced and skilled.
Fun fact, there is a skill called non-verbal casting for advace magic. Hogwarts students learn it at year 6/7 (can't remember). That's why adult wizards can cast spell without muttering a word, this is so your oponent won't know what's coming to them.

Poor Harry is going through so much in this one. On top of raging teenage hormones, he has PTSD, survivor's guilt, he's been kept in the dark, everyone is calling him crazy or a liar, Umbridge is torturing him and he has Voldemort's thoughts running around in his head. That's enough to make anyone act out especially a 15 year old kid.
Cho wasn't the snitch in the book. It was her friend Marietta. However Cho kept defending her and it broke her and Harry up.
There was a lot more to the story than Snape's memory showed. He and James didn't like each other from the start and took every opportunity to jinx each other. Snape was no innocent, helpless victim and James was an arrogant little jerk. However, James grew past it and let it go but Snape never did.
Voldemort can't go after Harry in the muggle world because as long as he considers his aunt's house home Harry is protected there. Dumbledore used an ancient spell to extend Lily's protection and make it so Harry couldn't be attacked as long as he had a home with someone who shared his and his mother's blood. Unfortunately, Petunia Dursley is Harry's only living adult blood relative on either side of his family.

Luna Lovegood can see Thestrals because she has seen a person die. Harry also has, so he can as well. They are only visible to those that have witnessed death, similar to the archway that Sirius went into, which is a connection to the other side and only those who have witnessed death can hear the voices on the other side of the veil... If I remember correctly, in the book the ones that can hear the voices are almost hypnotized by it and start moving toward it like they want to walk through it and have to snap out of it or be brought back to reality by people standing nearby who can't hear them

1:00:02 Waited for that, I think I did a comment in your reaction to the first movie that there was a reason Harry had to go to his Aunt and Uncle but it's never actually mentioned in the movies. It's because Harry is protected at the Dursley's far more than anywhere else, as badly as the Dursleys treat Harry when Petunia made the decision to accept and care for Harry that completed a powerful spell which Dumbledore wove(I believe) that rendered Voldemort unable to touch him(while at the Dursleys) until that magic wears off when Harry becomes of age.

Minor book spoilers ahead (in case you plan to read):
The movies leave out a lot by necessity, but the way they did it for James (Harry's dad) and Snape totally changed their characters. Snape was already obsesses with the Dark Arts and planning to join Voldemort while he was at Hogwarts. James, while arrogant, wasn't just a bully. He loathed the Dark Arts and hated Snape for it. Snape was basically his Draco Malfoy and Snape attacked James just as regularly as James attacked him. The movies really softened Snape's character far too much, in my opinion. He ended up on the right side, but just because of his obsession with Harry's mother, who wanted nothing to do with Snape after he called her a mudblood and he didn't deny his plans to join Voldemort. He hated Harry until his death, used his authority as a teacher to bully young children, and would have remained a Death Eater (likely killing and torturing Muggles and Wizards that resisted) had Voldemort not killed the 1 person he actually cared about. He even asked Voldemort to just kill Harry and James. He was fine with them dying as long as Lily could live.
And the movies don't really do Dumbledore justice. He was the only wizard Voldemort ever feared. In the book battle, Dumbledore is completely calm the entire fight. Doesn't break a sweat and shows zero fear - Until Voldemort disappears and he realizes he is about to possess Harry. Also, not sure if he says so or not in the movie, but the reason Voldemort stops possessing Harry is because Harry's love/grief for Sirius and his friends causes Voldemort pain he cannot endure. And now that Voldemort knows that danger, Dumbledore is confident he will never try to possess Harry again.

As you can already tell, Harry did tell people that Malfoy (and a bunch of others) are still death eaters and part of Voldemort's crew, but the issue is that many people don't believe him - from this book forward everything becomes very political, but not in a bad way - like the story is still very interesting and terrifying, but politics just up the ante some more - on top of facing real dangers, they also now have to deal with people who either don't believe Voldemort is back or don't realize (and refuse to believe) that Voldemort has great influence even within the ministry (not overtly, but sort of as a conspiracy - he has spies operating everywhere), so there are people who think that Harry is doing everything to get attention.

About Ron : his jealousy in the fourth book is portrayed in the same way I'd say BUT his backstory kinda explains it (explains not excuses) which is kinda brushed upon in the movie. Basically he is the last son of a poor family so he's never been in the spotlight. His older brothers were prefects or quidditch captains and Ginny is the last child and the only girl. On top of that, he's never had something of his own because of poverty : he always has hand me downs. Due to that, watching his already famous best friend get more spotlight triggered his jealousy

So for Ron he felt really hurt and betrayed, but also kind of constantly overshadowed by Harry and the stuff that happens to him. He felt like he didn’t know who his best friend was and was losing him to some sort of fame when it wasn’t like that at all. It’s something he misunderstood about Harry and came to understand. Harry doesn’t want fame and glory. He wants to live his life peacefully as a wizard and A HAPPY ONE (re: raised by the Dursleys) without something constantly happening to him. Voldy was a menace to everyone in Wizard society.

Just to clear up, Cho spilling the beans is a movie thing. They break up in the book because her fiend she pressured into going so she wouldn't have to go on her own snitched on them cuz her dad worked for ministry. They knew it was her because Hermione set a trap hex, anyone that signed the sheet and snitched would have snitch appear on their head as pimples. Cho defended her friend and started talking bad about Hermione for the hex she placed, and they argued and split up. I feel that makes more sense than the movie just dropping her like that. Also in the office with Dumbledore, Cho's friend was their but refused to snitch again due to the hex, and Dumbledore slowed time so he could instruct Harry to keep taking his classes with Snape. I hope this is all done better in the TV show

Mrs. Figg is Harry's neighbour and she is not a witch, she is a squib. (people born from magical families but who don't have any magical power) Mr. Filch (The guy who works at Hogwarts and has a cat) is also a squib. He is allowed to work at Hogwarts because his family is magical, so he knows about the existence of magic.
The twins are allowed to use magic now because they are 17, wich is when you become of age in the magical world. Even in the presence of wizards / witches you're NOT allowed to use magic if you're a minor outside of Hogwarts. (Unless you're in danger, wich is Harry's case. He broke no laws)
Neville's parents are not dead. They were tortured to insanity by Bellatrix, along with Barty Crouch Jr, Bellatrix's husband and her brother in law.
Fun (actually not so fun) fact: Bellatrix has the strangest cruciatus curse, so you definitely don't want to be tortured by her of all people. 😅
The Longbottoms are at Hospital St. Mangos, thry can't remember who they are, can't speak and don't remember Neville either.
Also: they didn't give Bellatrix thr answer of what she was looking for because they didn't know the answer! She went after them after the death of Harry's parents to know where Voldemort was after killing the Potters, what the Order "did to him" for him to disappear but no one knew the answer, the Longbottoms couldn't tell her what she wanted.
She tortured them to get information to understand what happened and why Voldemort disappeared.
The REASON she went specifically after the Longbottoms is because the prophecy says the baby was born at the end of july and his parents fought against Voldemort twice. TWO babies could fit this prophecy: Harry and Neville. He went after Harry first and was going for Neville too! But he never made to the Longbottoms because Harry "defeated" him. Actually Lilly's love protection stopped Voldemort. If she didn't sacrifice herself he could have killed both families that night.
In the book there is a scene after Mr Weasley is attacked by the snake where Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny are in the hospital visiting Mr. Weasley and they find Neville and his grandma visiting his parents. It's a very sad/ emotional scene. 😢
Luna Lovegood is one of the fan favourites because of how sweet and kind he is. She has been bulied since the beginning at Hogwarts because she is so different and "weird" and Ginny is very protective of her.
I also think it's funny that Luna is the only person Harry doesn't scream at/ get angry at when he is upset or anxious. She is such a sweetheart, really.
