Mark A well, they’re both incredibly fun to drive, the e92 is different in the sense that it’s a V8, and since it’s still NA, it’s a similar beast. Both very responsive in terms of throttle response due to the ITB’s found on both the S54 and the S65. Each have their own range of issues. But realistically, it’s all personal preference.
Oct 2001 took delivery of the M3. Car was special order and I wanted it without the sunroof but the dealer put the sunroof on the order just in case I back out of the special order. The second M3 sold at that particular dealer. Bought it at 3K over MSRP. Worth every penny. 2K miles and back to the dealer for break in service. And I'm off to the track. 165K miles later and years of enjoyment on road and track.
Bought a e46 M3 because of your videos, loved the engine and supersprint exhaust. Sold it and wont miss it, F series BMW are on another level of performance that is not comparable.
My track built E46 was a weapon a couple of years ago but the power started becoming dated. Swapped the engine with a modified LS3 and converted to wide body, Bam, instant 640hp race car. Waiting for covid to pass so I can get it on on track with all the parts finally in. The dynamics of the suspension and handling are top notch with great mechanical grip to compete with the likes of GT3 RS and Viper ACR. If you can get your hands on one and have the means to modify, you are building a super car.

$15k in the us?! that’s sooo cheap! it’s like $40-$50k for a good one here in australia....i would not even think twice buying one for that price, that’s like pocket change for that car....
A good one with less than 100k miles is over $20k USD ($32k AUD) from the ones I’ve been looking at here in the South East US. I think as they age more, they become more expensive due to them practically becoming a classic. While it is cheaper, it’s still a lot for some of us. I’ll keep working hard and saving.
15 is only going to get you a convertible/smg/tracked/modded/ coupes and or 6 speed with high miles or accident . They’ve really started to skyrocket. I have an 02 6 speed coupe topaz with m/cloth under 100k miles and bone stock and all up kept and I wouldn’t consider anything high 20k-low 30k

Excellent video! Think it's a bit optimistic saying you can get one under $15k. Maybe with 120k+ miles and SMG. The super desirable 04-06 examples under 100k miles are going to going for around $25k with low mileage $30k plus for either a coupe or convertible. There's just too many that have been ruined either by modding or crashing. Just not that many left on the road anymore - really what you see for sale is pretty much it, in the whole of the US!
@@R53.charlie iv owned both cars. For long periods. Im now on my second E92 M3. The E46 was a great car, brilliant, dont get me wrong. But the E92 is better in literally every diminsion, except for fuel economy. Just to name a few areas the E92 is better...brakes, engine, gearbox, comfort, build quality( a way better here) tech, interior, seats,high speed stability,all round capability, and overall performance of the E92 especially a dct car, is in a different league entirely to any version of an E46 M3. Ask anybody who has owned both cars. They will tell you the same thing. In many ways the the E92 is naturally extension of thd 46, both cars have similar feel , character and soul, but the E92 just does it all better. Its much more of a weapon but also more mature.The f80 on the other hand is nothing like either and has little or no soul, feel or character at all. It may as well be a nissan
John Creedon I’ve had my e46 for 12 years now, and my brother in law has had 4 e9x m3’s and one of them was a limited edition (I can’t remember the name) and it was also a press release car (which everyone says are built a little better and are just that little bit better) and I got out of my e46, got in that, he gave me the keys, told me to drive however I like. I absolutely cannot even describe how I drove that car, I drove it ‘like I stole it’ it was horrible, it felt too numb, it felt like I was in an m5, not an m3, it wasn’t as planted as the e46, it had the straight line speed obviously, but it had nothing over the e46 in corners. The e46 feels like a proper drivers car, the e9x feel numb as fuck and to be honest, they feel unstable, and like I said before, like an m5, something which is good to go for a long motorway journey, or to commute to work on a motorway, that’s all it’s good for. The engine, yes it’s a ‘v8 motor’ the engine that every man who feels like they need to compensate for something would own, yes they rev high, sound quite nice, and produce an ok amount of power, but v engines are nowhere near as good as a straight six, for example, the fuel economy, the purr of the straight 6 engine which you can get in no other engine, the smoothness, no v motor runs as smooth as a straight six. Well, there’s my opinion anyway, can’t wait for your argument back👍.

Fast at the track if you spend minimum 10k on top of maintenance (desent coilovers and wider wheels/tires) and work on it yourself too. As is stock and around 12k to 15k they are really slow but really fun to drive. If you get one and build it for below 20k total it will be worth every penny.

Owned one for 4 years, drove the hell out of it. Lots of times I'd take it out at 1am or so because I loved it that much. It just does sports car perfectly. By today's standards it's not too fast or slow and you careless about speed when you get to rev to 8k
For me, the stock exhaust sound is the 1 thing I don’t like about the E46 M3, I’ve got an 330m sport, and got the stock exhaust modified to make it sound deeper, but it’s all personal preference, great video 👍🏻

I'm on evo life atm, but I've had 2 manual e46 M3s and i do miss them! If you haven't had a chance to own one... Get one as its a real drivers car to check off the list. Plus I made money on both of mine on resale :).
I fully agree with these reasons which I believe applies to the manual M3 e46. I cannot drive Manual due to my disability and was told to stay far away from the SMG version as they are problematic M3's
William Petersen, no go for it, I have got a E46 M3 SMG, infact I have owned 2 I sold one 7 years ago, I promise you will not regret buying one.. yes sure the SMG isn’t as good as the ones around now, but once you go through the gear the way it throws you into your seat you will want to keep going out and getting up to 8000 rpm just to changed gear and listen to that noise...
