    Good stuff. There's a story of a Special Operations Officer, being sent to brief the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was under a constant Relax Grooming Standards due to his assignment. He walked into the Pentagon, with "longish" hair, and business suit. The J3 lost his mind (having NO "good" experience with Special Operations), and told him to go BUY a dress uniform and get a haircut. The Officer called back to Bragg to let them know what was going on and that he was going to be spending a good deal of money for a uniform (it could easily cost over $500 to set up a Dress Uniform correctly). They authorized him, he got "squared away" and did the brief. He then flew back home to Bragg where he was non-deployable for 6 months till his hair grew back out. I don't know if that's exactly true, but I could definitely see it happening.

      John Gates If any part of this story is true, and if the survival of the United States depends on a military with this mentality, then we’d probably be well advised to start making signs welcoming our New Overlords.

    • @JohnGatesIII
      @JohnGatesIII 5 лет назад +3

      actually, it's a case of someone not knowing their target audience. AND. the officers placing FORM over FUNCTION (it was more important to LOOK the part instead of actually DOING)

    Same thing with UFC fighters. You can tell that there are fighters that look-up rule recent changes (like the new “Grounded Fighter” parameters) and use it to their advantage because there are some fighters that steal so vehemently away from the realms of the rules that they don’t even think about them during training and fights.

    Bill Belichick is a fascinating character study for this. Bill researches each and every referee before each and every game and has actual updated files on the calls that they are most prone to make and the penalties that they call the most. He uses this to his advantage by telling his guys every week, which rules that they are able to mildly break and most likely get away with. Strategy at its finest.

  • @FiciousCritik

    I concur, and I like the way you think:) In support of value herein:
    Adaptation is an underrated, intrinsically covert tactic. Frequently, having adapted to environment, the wise can (correctly) cause the ENVIRONMENT TO 'ADAPT'...i.e. change it per choice/stealth/force, etc....with more options, hence, ease and odds of success.
    I'm fond of the 'irreducible minimum': MAKE WITH THE PROGRAM! Humility required here; if it hurts...GOOD! Spit on your pride, or choke on it.
    So that, maybe...just maybe...wisdom makes the program yours some day.
    Individuality is for 'outside' the program, where/when earning$ are enjoyed.
    BTW, wisdom...where IS that? Looked for it at the U, not on curriculum.
