I was going to say the same thing. All the other videos I watched were made by men who were over-complicating things or more commonly, leaving things out. I think men sometimes just don't understand what it means when their audience has little or no frame of reference, therefore they have to explain even the smallest thing.
Thank You! At last I’ve found a video that explains things properly for us complete beginners. Other noob videos assume you already know the jargon and how to use the reel etc. great job!
8yo ago and still a great video! i got myself one of the rear end drag and i only knew they existed on the top so i was worried where it's or how to use it until i saw ur video! again Much thanks to you brother!
Hi. Thanks a bunch. Finally, after searching to find out how my reel works I found you. No instructions in the box or on the manufacturer's website. How does a company sell a product with no instructions? I had no idea what that switch was for. Today was my first-day fishing here in Corpus Christi Tx. I enjoyed testing my fishing stuff. Did not catch anything but had a great time practicing. Looking forward to your future shared knowledge. Thanks. Mega thumbs up!
Thank you so much for this video. The few guys I’ve asked at fish shops were sooooo condescending whenever I asked them things and for some reason there’s very little about them in the instructions when you buy them. You were thorough and didn’t make me feel dumb.
Your videos are the best I've found, you're a great teacher! Taking a friend fishing tomorrow and it suddenly occurred to me that I haven't touched a fishing pole in years and can't remember what the heck I'm doing. 😆 Thanks for helping me get caught up! 👍 🙂
I watched a ton of videos trying to understand my spinning reel and this one was dead on with explaining everything in simple and accurate terms! I didn't even know I could move my handle to the other side and I'm glad I saw this because it was on the wrong side for me and I moved it.
Excellent job, women are so underrated. They don't carry around egos. Watched other videos by male presenters and this one addressed everything and even included the anti-reverse lever, which the others I looked at didn't.
Really helpful ... thank you so much !! Just bought one online and didn't know how to operate it as no manual/guide comes with it and was really confused with the drag system and its purpose. Thanks again.
A decent spinning reel can be purchased for around $25.00 and can provide years of fun fishing for the average summer angler. People today think that you need to spend +$500.00 on their fishing gear just to enjoy fishing. As a child living on the prairies I remember bending and removing the old aluminum antenna pieces from old houses (used for TV reception) and tying a piece of fishing line and a hook and bobber to the end of the pole. That was pretty much it and that was the fun in fishing ~ improving from whatever we could find in back alleys and the local junkyard. That was pretty much our fishing gear growing up.
None of my spinning reels are over $ 30.00. They all still work and are in good condition. The most expensive one actually cost me closer to $ 40 and has eight bearings. Beautiful reel.
This video helped me tremendously! I'm a beginner fisher and the first time I went out I was wondering why my handle was so loose and why my line would easily come loose in my reel and start looping. Now I know that my handle can be tightened (I thought it was just loose) and that there is an anti-reverse option which I assume will prevent the line from coming loose all the time. Can someone confirm if I am right to assume that? Thanks!
Glad I could help. Yes the screw on opposite side of the reel will tighten your reel handle. The anti-revese allows the handle to be cranked either clockwise or counterclockwise it doesn't tighten anything. The drag button on the front of the reel will tighten the line for retrieving and being pulled off under pressure. When you open the wire bale to cast make sure your fishing line is hooked on your index finger otherwise it will just loop off the reel. Freefall to the ground. There is no tightening that. 😁
Sort of a weird comment but I saw that you’ve still kept up with replying to your comments so I figured I’d give it a shot! What’s that hoodie brand you’re wearing? It looks extremely cool! I also appreciate how informative and user friendly the video was laid out! Thanks.

I just bought my rod and i noticed the handle was not screwed on tight so I tightened it but now it wont turn unless in anti reverse is on. is it broken?
@@fishingtalesandotherlies yes I tried to tighten the handle but I think it is broke Im just going to return it. Since my kids and I are new to fishing would u recommend a rod that is open or should I go with the push button kind? because my son has a cheap doc demon and it works perfectly
I love just getting out there. It took me two days just to get my line on. Turns out my spool needs to be turned FACE DOWN for it to load correctly. Baby steps! Haha
Good video thanks! Got my first rod today but it has a button on the top of the spool where the drag adjuster sometimes is. My drag adjuster is on the bottom but I have a button on the top? Any ideas?
Are you asking about the Bail wire?? If the bail is closed and your line still comes off the reel, then you do not have the line in the line guide or knuckle which on the side of the bail wire. It's a grove like hinge on the side.
@@fishingtalesandotherlies There is NO reason NOT to like such a beautiful yet so simple details. Everyone who has seen this informative clip will know the basics of fishing reel. Thanks again... Have a good day ahead.

No, you don't have to. But I keep mine on so that if there is a sudden strike after the lure hits the water your line will not get ripped off the spool. And remember the handle will spin around when the anti reverse is off.
Cheers, I was basically trying to figure out the anti-reverse wasn't sure what it was till you told us, my real however doesn't swap to right handed sadly, it's an old Mitchell real made in France! Very smooth well built and nice as can be however it just doesn't swap left to right :( .. it's actually flat faced where your nut is on yours mines a flat metal solid piece
I have a video that explains the drag system. In short to help you out. To tighten turn the drag knob to the right (clock wise). To listen, turn left (counter clockwise).
*I'm a total noob and where I am utterly flummoxed (and now exasperated) is that when I open bail to cast, a ton of line just unspools into a heap so closing bail to reel in lure causes the line to wrap around anything and everything except the actual spool. I am 100% certain I have tied line to spool and loaded spool correctly. This isn't a line twist issue, it just simply comes totally undone (unwrapped) from spool when I open the bail into a jumbled heap and impossible to reel back in. Total mess and I just don't get it. Frustrated beyond belief.*
My friend, when you open the bail hook your index finger under the line so that is doesn't unspool and drop off the reel. As you cast you release your index finger to let the line fly on the forward motion of the fishing rod.
Hey, I'm making a fishing toy for my cat, how could I make a reel to put on it? I have a regular thin string for the fishing string. I made the spool from cardboard and a marker cap. I'm on a low budget to make this. Do you know how I could make a reel with a handle?

Some people say that closing the bail by turning the handle may damage the bail spring. Is this true?
It is entirely possible on some of the cheaper reels. I find that the auto closer can be choppy and therefore prefer to close it manually.
New to fishing here thank for the video!!
Your welcome.

When the wire that locks the real down still lets line out is that supposed too?
