The Ugandans had the guns and the Indians had the money. The Ugandans thought that they could get everything by expelling. What the Indians took with them was the knowledge of how to make money.

Indians will never force anyone to accept them as leaders... As long as they are in majority or are prosperous they'll always help the weak and poor.. thats how Indian culture is.. unlike stupid Ugandan people... But still Indians didn't lose anything but see where is Uganda.. among most poor countries in the world.. thats what happens in the country when religion becomes superior to humanity..

The general public didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They were so full of hope and excitement that they were now going to prosper. The economy collapsed and there were dark times for Uganda. It didn't just stop at the Asian expulsion. The people themselves started to be persecuted. very sad.

I don't believe this dreadful event received very much press in the US because of the news bias here. It certainly didn't fit the narrative we were being fed. Obviously the Ugandans would have expelled the Indians in order to steal their Assets, this happened then, and it’s not the last, not very hard to figure out.

My first flight as a trainee cabin attendant in 1972 was Bombay-Nairobi-Uganda-Nairobi. Uganda-Nairobi being a "refugee evacuation" Flight. I got off in Nairobi while the refugee flight continued onwards to Mumbai with a fresh crew. I saw first hand the ravages of a displaced population. People weeping and wailing, dazed and traumatized fleeing Idi Amin's barbaric rule, leaving their homes and possessions behind. Whatever little money and jewellery they had managed to bring with them, was taken away at the airport by the airport guards. I remember an old gentleman being carried on board by his children because the guards had broken his wooden leg looking for hidden money! There were two dead bodies being shipped back to BOM on this flight. The next day I was back on another evacuation flight NBO-BOM with the same heart wrenching scenario.
In my 37 years of flying I have operated dozens of evacuation flights around the world bringing back our people from war torn zones, but these earlier flights shook me the most. I pray to God that good sense prevails and the people around the world live in peace and harmony with their loved ones. 🙏🙏🙏

They can still make a progress. That mentality of yours of thinking and underrating African ability that they can't progress on their own will always be a problem. Idi Amin was right in chasing all Indians (Asians) and other foreigners out of Uganda. Not like that current puppet Museveni of the West and foreigners who's still keeping indians to dominate the economy of Uganda. Foreign domination of the country's economy exploits the indigenous citizens. Black Africans are always hated and mistreated in Asia, Europe, etc. You don't find Africans dominating economy in Europe and Asia. So that thing shouldn't exist for foreigners in Africa too. If I had that power, I would do the same thing to free my people from foreign domination and exploitation. One day Africa will be absolutely for Africans...it just needs continuous and persistent struggle.

I can appreciate there are different forms of intelligence, but the reason I'm concerned with IQ, is it directly effects a society and its functioning.
And you can witness that all over the world.
      Go Google "IQ by race".
Then go and look at those different nations.

Historically, the Indians in East Africa were brought by the British to build railroads like the Chinese were forced to in the Western United States. So, they had been there for many generations since British colonialism. That's why they speak good English. This is certainly by no means to justify the brutality of colonialism and slave labor committed by the British. Furthermore, the British made sure to divide the Africans and Indians against one another. The British does this by favouring one group over the other, which is what you see in this documentary and why things happen the way it did. If you noticed, many of the Indians were still carrying British passports and not Ugandan passports. Why did they refuse to transition into having Ugandan passports? This was long after Uganda received its independence.

I Ganda is a relatively small country that’s still quite rural, like most African countries. Uganda importing stuff from India is just straightforward capitalism.

@Reaper So? India is a country of 1.2 billion people. If someone has a good idea in India and starts a business off the back of it, they can earn billions in a really short time. The same cannot be said for Uganda which has a relatively small population. It’s the same reason why businesses badly want access to the billions of people in China. It’s simple maths. Jeff Bezos has more money than the country of Oman. There are many international billionaires who have more money than the GDP of small countries.
Honestly, people like you make yourselves look so foolish. It’s like you don’t understand simple stuff like geography and mathematics. But Indians would rather be here comparing their economy to a small predominantly rural African country. Meanwhile, your fellow countrymen poo in the street and wipe their bum with their own hand, and your women are afraid to walk the streets at night in their own country for fear they might be raped. The present condition of Uganda tells us all about the decision made in 1972. You can not discriminate people on the basis of their race because they're affluent than you.
Any kind of discrimination, expulsion brings only havoc, nothing else. If they would've inculcated the democratic behaviour of solving problems, rather than being authoritative, situation could've been different.
Payment disparity along with racial disparities could've been dealt in a better way while bringing everyone to the table for discussion.

Uganda's 80,000 Asians were mostly from the Indian subcontinent and born in the country, their ancestors having come to Uganda in search of prosperity when India was still a British colony. Many owned businesses, including large-scale enterprises, which formed the backbone of the Ugandan economy. Amin expropriated businesses and properties belonging to the Asians and the Europeans and handed them over to his supporters. Without the experienced owners and proprietors, businesses were mismanaged and many industries collapsed from lack of operational expertise and maintenance. This proved disastrous for the already declining Ugandan economy. At the time, Asians accounted for 90% of the country's tax revenue; with their removal, Amin's administration lost a large chunk of government revenue. The economy all but collapsed.

At the end of colonial rule in East Africa the British left Uganda with an explosive economic structure with the Asian elite owning all the levers of economic and commercial activity. The British used the Asian population as a buffer between themselves and the African Black majority. During colonial rule Africans were not allowed to go into major commercial activities and could not even own cotton gins (by law) and prosper. It had nothing to do with innate capabilities--that's simply white supremacy theory. Africans were not trained into the professional skills. This is of course because Britain had no exit strategy for (or plan for) ending colonialism. This same divide-and-rule approach was employed in other British colonies all over the world. In South Africa Europeans were on top, with so-called "coloreds" of mixed European and African ancestry following, then Asians, and Black Africans at the bottom. In many West African British colonies such as Ghana, the British used Syrians, Lebanese, and Asians as the buffer--they controlled the commerce and flourished. Even indigenous African businesses that existed at the turn of the 20th century were starved of capital and the sons of the founders ended up working as employees of the Syrians, Lebanese, and Asians. In colonial Kenya, similarly, the British allowed a prosperous Asian elite to control commerce and emerge. The British actually passed laws, including in Kenya, barring financial institutions from lending to Africans. Then Africans, deprived of opportunities or blocked by legislation, are demonized as being "lazy" with a short horizon, as was reflected in some of the comments by some of the Asians interviewed. So things would have come to a head at some point in Uganda. Idi Amin himself was promoted in the military by the British during colonial rule because be was very ruthless in exterminating Kenyan freedom fighters of the Kenya Land and Freedom Army (KLFA) demonized by the British as "Mau Mau." He was well rewarded for killing fellow Africans on behalf of Empire. So at the time of independence in 1962 Amin was one of the most senior Black African officers in the Ugandan army. To add insult to injury, Amin carried out his military takeover of 1971 with the assistance of Israeli intelligence (Israel trained the Ugandan Air Force) and with the knowledge of the British, who quickly recognized Amin's regime. They resented Milton Obote who was close to Tanzania's Julius Nyerere and had published his "Common Man's Charter" a manifesto to move Uganda to the left and announced plans to take majority interest in major corporations including British ones in Uganda. British media referred to Amin as the "jolly jovial giant" in the early days. Even as he exterminated Africans Amin was still their "chap." It was only after he expelled the Asians and started seizing British assets the Amin became the "mad man" of Africa. Fortunately everything I'm writing can now be easily verified by Google search. The British left the Asians and the Africans on a collision course. But what's new? That is the essence of colonialism and imperialism-- divide and rule. Look at Guyana today. [For more materials please listen to the brilliant lecture on RUclips "Race and Class in Guyanese Politics" by Walter Rodney and you will see how it mirrors Uganda's plight. Also read or listen to the audio book of "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa," by Walter Rodney. So what this report presents as an Amin madness is a little more complex than what meets the eye].
